Anime Boston 2012
LETTER FROM
THE CON CHAIR
Greetings!
On behalf of the New England Anime Society, our honored guests and the entire Anime
Boston staff, it is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to Anime Boston 2012!
This year is particularly exciting, as we are celebrating our tenth anniversary. When I think
back on 2002, when we were working to organize ourselves and plan for the first year of
the convention, I’m still astounded at how much has the event has grown and developed.
Like a child, the convention “grew up” faster than we expected, and around it, we have
lived ten years of life. For those of us who were there from the beginning this means ten
years of marriages, children born, friends who have passed on, break-ups, falling in love,
learning new things, losing some battles, and winning others. After more than ten years of
convention work, we are not the same people now as we were in 2002; but, I believe that
we are all a bit more worldly and stronger having had this experience with Anime Boston.
In a real way we grew up, in the way that adults can, alongside the convention.
How many of you, I wonder, have been with us these past ten years? How have your lives
changed during that time and what impact did our three-day, yearly event have on you?
How many cherished convention memories do you carry, how many friends did you meet
at Anime Boston and how many opportunities have you had to laugh and learn during
those twenty seven days of Anime Boston goodness? How, in short, has Anime Boston
changed you?
This year, I urge you to make the most of these three days. Meet some new people and
share your interests, try out a couple panels that cover new-to-you topics and chat with
the presenters, consider supporting to our charity efforts to improve the lives of others and
talk to Anime Boston’s staff members if the opportunity presents itself – we’d love to hear
about your experiences!
In a few short days our tenth convention will come to a close, bringing our total number
of convention days to thirty – a whole month’s worth of Anime Boston experiences. In the
span of our lives a month is usually a very small period of time, but what an effect it has
had on us! It is my sincere hope that you, too, have been positively changed and charged
by sharing this time with us. We couldn’t have this party without you!
Cheer and Warm Regards,
Andrea M. Finnin

• Any personal belongings you bring to the
dance are solely your responsibility. If
you can, leave them in your hotel room or
with a someone you know. Neither Anime
Boston nor any of its staff are responsible
for any of your personal belongings.
• Wear shoes at all times. No telling what
the attendees from the event before
Anime Boston's Hentai Music Video contest
dropped on the floor and romping around
is your worst nightmare. A no-holds barred
the dance in bare feet is a recipe for serihentai fun-fest!
ous injury. Some excited dancing otaku,
with shoes on, might even stomp on your
feet by accident. It is just safer to keep
your shoes on. This is a convention-wide
policy, by the way.
Hentai AMV Contest (18+)
dances
Dances will be held on both Friday and
Saturday nights; please check the schedule
for times.
Quick Tips from the
Dance Manager
• Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
You can still dress to impress, but keeping
things comfortable will allow you to show
people your moves on the dance floor for
longer periods of time.
• Get in line early. Pre-dance lines have
historically been ridiculously long. If you
want to party early, get in line early.
• Stay hydrated. We will have as many
water stations set up at the dance as possible. This year, you can help us keep the
water flowing. We will be allowing each
person to bring one sealed bottle of water.
"Sealed" means a bottle that still has its
tamper-proof seal intact. Once opened,
the bottle may not taken from the event
room and brought back in.
• Do not over-exert yourself. It can be easy
to get carried away dancing out all of your
energy so that you faint. We would prefer
it if you could leave on your own two legs
instead of being carried out by the paramedics; we hope you see it that way, too.
• If you plan to dance near the speakers,
wear ear-plugs. The sound system is really BIG and will be really LOUD. You can
get ear plugs at a pharmacy, several of
which are close to the convention center.
• Props are prohibited from the dance
because they take up space people could
be using for dancing. Frisbees and similar
toys are prohibited because they can
literally stop the dance if they hit any of
the DJ equipment the wrong way; which
is something we would very much prefer
not to happen at all. Open containers are
prohibited as well. Sorry, that includes
Nalgene bottles. We do allow a single
sealed bottle of water though.
• Most importantly, stay safe and help
others stay safe.
See the Dance Policy on page 65 .

planned earlier that day for those of you
who would like to learn a few moves, meet
potential dance partners, or just brush up
on your technique. Check the schedule for

attire is all that is strictly required. Informal
clothing such as T-shirts, jeans, sandals,
sneakers, flip-flops, boots, platforms,
flannel, etc. will not be permitted. Anime
Boston staff reserve the right to refuse
admittance to attendees deemed inappropriately dressed, at their own discretion.
Ticketing
Formal Western Attire (Female)
Those dressing in female formal wear
(regardless of his/her own gender) should
wear at least semi-formal level dresses
and appropriate dress shoes such as heels
or dress flats. Sneakers, boots, or sandals
will not be allowed. Dress hems should be
at least knee length and individuals should
avoid non-formal fabrics such as denim,
leather and vinyl. While cotton is allowed,
more formal fabrics such as satin or chiffon
are encouraged. Those who do not wish
to wear a dress may come dressed in a
woman's pant suit.
The Phoenix Charity Ball will be a limited
capacity and ticketed event. Anyone who
wishes to attend will need to sign up for
a ticket beforehand. Tickets will cost $4,
and all proceeds go to the Central New
England chapter of the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society. The ticket charge is
designed to continue Anime Boston's commitment to charity as well as reduce the
number of people who reserved tickets "just
in case" and then choose not to attend the
ball—not necessarily to fund the ball itself.
Half of the tickets were available online,
and the remainder will be made available
at the convention. These tickets will go on
sale the afternoon of Friday, April 6, exact
time TDB. Attendees will only be allowed
to line up a maximum of 30 minutes before
ticketing opens. Each person in line will
only be able to request one ticket, and must
present their Anime Boston badge.
Note: All those with tickets need to wear
proper attire to the Ball, those with tickets
but without formal clothing will be denied
admittance.
Dress Code
Our Charity Ball, unlike its other dance
counterparts, is a formal event. The dress
code is Black Tie "invited". This means that
attendees are encouraged to wear gowns
and tuxedos, although semi-formal attire is
acceptable. Cosplay is welcome, but must
fit in with the formality of the occasion.
Whether you decide to come as Princess
Serenity or in your best kimono, you must
dress in a manner befitting the occasion.
Although ball gowns and tuxedos are
encouraged, a minimum of semi-formal

Anime Boston 2012
Formal Western Attire (Male)
Those wearing male attire (regardless
of his/her own gender) should be neatly
dressed in at minimum a button down shirt,
slacks, dark colored jacket or blazer and
tie. Suits and tuxedos are encouraged.
Individuals should wear formal shoes such
as dress shoes or loafers. Sneakers, boots
or platforms shoes will not be allowed.
Formal Eastern Attire
Those wearing formal attire from Japan or
other eastern countries should be clothed
neatly and in full attire. For male clothing
this means the full Haori-Hakama, for
female clothing a formal Kimono such as
the Furisode or Kurotomesode.
Those dressed in formal Japanese clothing
may wear zori sandals with tabi socks
for footwear. Geta sandals are difficult to
dance in and thus not recommended. All
other forms of sandals are not suitable for
this event.
Formal Cosplay Attire
Cosplayers are certainly welcome at the
Ball! However we ask you please remember that it is a formal dance event first and
foremost, and the dress code must still be
adhered to. Cosplay for men and women
should resemble formal wear of the noncostume variety. For example: long gowns,
formal military attire, etc. School uniforms,
armor, chains, and excessive belts are all
considered informal. Large props, wings,
weapons, or anything that impairs your field
of vision will not be allowed in the event as
they are an impediment on the dance floor
and may be broken or harm others. Anime
Boston reserves the right to ask for the
removal of costume portions or props that
are problematic.

please check out www.animeboston.com/
events/dress_code.

their website: www.NGAGamers.com
The Nexus Gaming Alliance, formed in
2010, are a combination of various talents
brought together to form the ultimate experience in gaming and bring it to all sorts of
events around the country. It doesn’t matter
if it’s a birthday party or if it’s one of the
largest conventions in the country; the NGA
is proud to take on any challenge a customer
brings to us and provide their attendees with
the best experience they’ve had.
The NGA’s collection is a testament to
their adamant love for collecting current
and next-generation systems as much
as their classic companions, bringing
every nostalgic experience to the table
as humanly possible with the range and
variety in their systems. They also made
sure to purchase arcade machines to help
bring the experience of an arcade to all of
those who missed out on some of the more
glorious days of gaming. What sets them
apart is the way the NGA also can host a
tournament on almost any video game in
their collection, making them as versatile
as their collection.
The Nexus Gaming Alliance will be once
again hosting the video gaming arena
for Anime Boston 2012! The NGA will use
its experience and dedication to provide
the ultimate gaming experience for our
attendees. In addition to providing both
classic and next-generation consoles, they
will also be running many tournaments
throughout the weekend. Get ready for
tournaments such as Modern Warfare
3, Gears 3, Super Street Fighter: 2012 and
Smash Brothers: Brawl!
Video Games are located in Hall C on the
Hynes 2nd Floor.

EVENTS
1. NO BOOTLEGS. If you have ever ended
up with something you didn’t realize wasn’t
legit, you’ve probably felt ripped off. Crummy “all region” HK DVD sets, soundtracks
with lousy color photocopied liners, offcolor wall scrolls, repro trading cards, and
the list goes on. If you’ve felt ripped off by
this stuff, do your fellow convention
attendees a favor and don’t pass this stuff
on to them. If you’ve got any questions
about the authenticity of something, find a
staff member and ask for help.
2. NO WEAPONS. No matter what the material, if it resembles a weapon, please do
not bring it to trade. This includes wooden
practice swords and things that might
otherwise be called “cosplay accessories.”
This is not negotiable!
3. NO FOOD OR DRINKS FOR TRADE. This
might seem odd, but don’t bring any food or
drinks to trade to people unless you manufacture and package the food or drinks
and wrap them individually in specifically
marked trial-size packages for promotional
use and not for resale. You don’t want
to find yourself on the wrong side of the
convention center’s catering contract.
4. ADULT MATERIALS MUST BE COVERED
AND ONLY SHOWN TO PEOPLE WHO CAN
LEGALLY VIEW THEM. If your favorite
naughty video has served its purpose and
you’d like to find it a new home, make
completely sure someone that’s interested
in it is at least 18 years of age. That’s the
law and it should probably be common
sense by now.
You’ll probably have the most fun by trading
things, but you can also show up just to
look around at what other people have to
trade. Come and see what’s going on in the
Swap Meet. Check the most recent convention schedule for the time and location of
the Swap Meet.
charity auction
The Charity Auction will once again take
place at Anime Boston. All proceeds go
towards the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society. Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a
chronic disease that attacks the central
nervous system. Currently, there are
approximately 250,000 to 350,000 people
in the United States diagnosed with MS,
and approximately 200 new cases are
diagnosed each week.
This year, we will be selling raffle tickets for
our baskets at our new table in the dealers’
room, so be sure to stop by and visit us!
The auction itself has tons of other cool
biddable items, including signed swag and
a lifetime pass to Anime Boston!
anime boston
museum
Take a look at the convention's past! To
celebrate its 10 year anniversary, the staff
and friends of Anime Boston have gathered
together many items from the convention's
illustrious history to display. Stop by and
see t-shirts, program guidebooks and other
paraphernalia from years bygone, including
the baseball bat autographed by many past
Anime Boston guests!
The Anime Boston Museum is located in the
Jefferson Room on the Sheraton 3rd Floor.
kanno's jazz bar
A 21+ Lounge Event
Yoko Kanno may not be there in person, but
her brilliant music will be! So sit back and
relax with a drink as you let the music
soothe your troubles away. Enjoy one of
our Anime Boston signature cocktails at
the cash bar, or just munch on some table
snacks while hiding from the younger
crowd. To celebrate our 10th anniversary,
special commemorative
cocktail glasses
will also be available for purchase so you
can sip your “A-Chan” or “B-Kun” drink in
style! This event is restricted to attendees
age 21 and over. Valid ID is required for entry.

Please give the gift of life! Our American Red

the Todd

memorial
manga library
Todd MacDonald was a dedicated Anime
Boston staffer from 2003–2009 who loved to
read as much as he loved anime. We have
renamed the Manga Library in his honor as
a way of saying thank you to him for all that
he had done for our convention. When you
need a quiet place to read all that manga
you have scored from the Dealer’s Room
or anytime you would simply like to read
something new, the Manga Library is the
perfect escape from the hustle and bustle
of the convention. The Todd MacDonald
Memorial Manga Library has a new location this year: the Commonwealth Ballroom
on the 3rd Floor
of the Sheraton.
Manga Library Hours:

ARTISTS’ ALLEY
Welcome back to another year of the Artists’ Alley!
If you have some free time, are just browsing, or are even looking for someone or something in particular, this is the
place to go for original artwork and fan art! The artists are friendly and the variety is incredible!
You can find this year’s Alley located in Ballroom B and C on the 3rd Floor of the Hynes Convention Center. We are pleased
to be sharing this gigantic room with the Art Show again this year. We also have a great variety of Featured
Artists this year, all of whom will be doing various panels throughout the weekend.
If you have any questions or trouble, the Artists’ Alley staff can be found at the Info Desk just inside the entrance to
Ballroom B. Staff includes Artists’ Alley Manager Nikki O’Shea, as well as the Art Track Coordinator Kathy Lawton.
Other staffers will include Gabriel Fequiere, Jr., Ezra Cudjoe, and more.
rules for the
attendees
These are common sense
rules, but every now and then
it is good to have a refresher.
Please take the time to read.
Food and Drink
No open food or drink is allowed in the Alley
except by the artists (or staff). Attendees are
not allowed to eat in the Artists’ Alley.
Empty Tables
You will not feel free to sit down, sit behind,
take chairs, put your stuff on, start eating
on, or do anything that would otherwise tie
up what may appear to be an empty table.
You did not pay for the table, and when the
artist who paid for the table does show up,
he/she has the right to assume it will be
clean and immediately available.
If you want to sell art and do not have
space in the Alley, you will not set up on the
floor or in the hall – this is a traffic hazard.
Check with Artists’ Alley staff if you want
space; some space may be available. The
Artists Alley info desk will be right inside
the first set of main doors to the Alley (on
your right as you come in).
Photography
Do not stop to take pictures of cosplayers
(exception – the cosplayer is an artist and
you’ve asked permission) in the Alley. This
will cause any number of traffic jams; please
ask to take the photo outside the Alley.
No video taping any artists’ displays and/or
art without permission .
Above all else, no photographing the art –
either by regular camera, digital camera,
handheld game cameras (such as the Nintendo DSI), or your phone camera. This is
considered stealing even if it’s for personal
use. If you like something, please consider
buying it. Some of these folks are trying to
make a living.
Traffic
Do not congregate in the doorways. Come
in, step aside, and let traffic go through.
Do not block the aisles. If you are just
standing and talking, please find another
place to do so.
Do not block tables. If you are looking at art
on table A, it is not fair to block off table B
from people who might wish to look at their
display.
Do not place your bags on the tables. Every
inch is often used for display and doing so
will discourage others from looking.
The Artists
Feel free to “bother” the artists, that is why
they are here. But do not hassle or harass
them.
Please be respectful to the artists at all
times. If you have a problem or issue,
please don’t cause a scene; instead, report
it to the Artists Alley Info Desk.
Please listen to the staff.
All other Anime Boston convention rules
apply. (See the Rules section on page 61.)
Enjoy yourselves and have a
good time at the con.

Gina Biggs is a freelance artist and comic
creator. She has been creating comics for
over fourteen years. She runs
www.strawberrycomics.com, an all-female
group of creators banding together to help
promote women in the comic industry as
well as the neglected and often overlooked
genre of love and romance in the medium.
She also runs www.filthyfigments.com,
which features erotic comics by a lineup of
all-women creators.
Table 42
Jennifer Doyle (aka theyoungdoyler) is an
aspiring artist who is currently studying
History at Macalester College. When there
aren’t essays to be written, Jenn writes
and draws the webcomic, Knights-Errant.
Though Knights-Errant isn’t strictly historical, it attempts to realistically address sexual
and religious politics from Renaissance
Europe and the Arab World in a darkly
comedic way.
Gina’s current work is the romantic
webcomic series, Red String. The series
has been running since 2003 and the first
three volumes are published by Dark Horse
Comics. She also collaborates on Erstwhile,
a series adapting the lesser know Grimm’s
fairytales into comic form.
Table 9
Emily H.W. Gaskill is a graduate from UC
Davis with a BA in Art Studio who spent the
ten years after graduation doing very little
art. She has spent her more recent time
attempting to find her artistic muse and her
abilities again, and is happy to say she feels
that she is on the road back to creativity.
She is the Artist/Writer for the Web Comic
“The Wand and The Sword” which can be
found at www.wandandsword.com and she
is known as both dragondoodle and girl-nherhorse on DeviantArt.

Table 30
Lora Innes began her critically acclaimed
historical fiction work, The Dreamer, as
a webcomic in 2007 and it quickly grew
a large, devoted following online. IDW
Publishing has released two graphic novel
collections of celebrated webcomic. The
Dreamer has been nominated for three
Harvey Awards, and it was also nominated
in the 2010 Cybils Awards and won the 2009
S.P.A.C.E. Prize. The Dreamer is the story of
17-year-old high schooler Beatrice Whaley.
Every night when she falls asleep, she wakes
up in the middle of the Revolutionary War.
Lora Innes is currently working on writing a
graphic novel trilogy about the Civil War for
an upcoming television event, To Appomattox.
She also co-hosts the Paper Wings podcast
with Disney Visual Development artist,
Chris Oatley, which is how to make and
monetize your creator-owned comics and
graphic novels!
36
Anime Boston 2012
Kevin Kincheloe is as hard to describe
as his name is to pronounce. An unusual
combination of nature hippie, fantasy artist,
and computer nerd. One day you might spot
him wandering barefoot in the woods of the
Midwest, then the next day he’s rocking out
on music and PC games. He’s 100% artist
in all areas of his life, though, and has been
since before he could talk. His drawing style
is something that occurred naturally when
he decided not to have a “style” and just
draw whatever came out of his pencil. Elements of anime, fantasy, cartoon, and who
knows what else have all smelted together
into something he likes to call his own.
A character creator and world builder at
heart, Kevin’s brain is packed full of strange
lands and interesting people, some of
which have been growing in his mind for
over ten years, with new faces popping
up all time. His creations make their way
into the real world in the form of drawings, stories, comics, digital paintings, and
occasionally 3D animation. A jack of all
trades, who will never call himself a master
of anything, for there is always room to
improve.

Table 7
Some say that Dave Lister is made of
Legos. This is false. Composed mostly of
coffee, Dave has learned to work without
unnecessary things like sleep (though this
may also be speculation, as he is often
observed face-down on his laptop). Dave
got his roots in the industry by accidentally
creating the webcomic, Paradox Lost in
early 2000. Though it was intended simply
to be a means for Dave to polish his art and
writing skills, its success led to the founding
of Studio Nasu. Since then, Dave has written,
illustrated, and composed music for comics,
magazines, retailers, video games, children’s
books, websites, and radio stations.
Come visit the Studio Nasu table to see
some of Dave’s latest projects, including

she adds her own touch to the popular
webcomic “The Dreamer” by Lora Innes,
also in print through IDW. Julie also has
two personal comic projects which will
debut online at the beginning of next year.
Sterblichkeit (Mortality) is a WWII graphic
novel which explores the choices its cast
of characters make and the consequences
that ensue. She takes a notably different
direction with her second project, Iannua,
a fantasy piece in a Victorian setting where
magic is commonplace and technology is
considered aberrant.
When she isn’t at her computer, Julie travels
around the globe attending comic book
and anime conventions. She is also an avid
cosplayer, having an entire closet at home
dedicated to past and present projects.

RULES
autograph
policy
6. Attendees are welcome to take photographs of the guests, but we ask that they
please refrain from asking the guests to
come around the table for a posed shot.
STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS ALSO
MANDATE THAT IT IS PROHIBITED FOR
INDIVIDUALS UNDER THE AGE OF 21 TO
DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.
In an effort to predict wait times
for autograph lines and to allow
our attendees and guests to
have as much fun as possible
at Anime Boston, the following
guidelines should be observed.
7. Attendees participating in disruptive or
rude behavior may be asked to leave the
autograph area.
The legal age for drinking alcohol is 21. Our
over 21 attendees are allowed to consume
alcohol outside of the convention area in a
responsible, civilized manner. We require
that our under 21 attendees refrain from
drinking at our convention.
1. The first one hundred attendees in line
for a given autograph session will receive
tickets just prior to start of the session. This
ticket guarantees an autograph in either the
current session or, if need be, an overflow
session later in the convention. Overflow
autograph session times will be available at
the information desks.
This policy is in effect to maintain a safe and fun environment
for Anime Boston attendees,
guests and staff/security. Please
adhere to the following rules
and regulations. Anyone not
following the rules and regulations will be dealt with on site
by Anime Boston Staff/Security.
2. Anyone past the one hundred mark will
not receive a ticket. Individuals without
tickets are not guaranteed an autograph.
Whether or not they receive an autograph
depends on how quickly the line moves
during the allotted time. Individuals without
tickets may not attend scheduled overflow
sessions.
3. Anime Boston reserves the right to end
the line to keep events (and guests) on
schedule.
4. Attendees are not allowed to line up for
an autograph session more than 30 minutes
before the scheduled start time. Attendees
gathering in the vicinity of the autograph
room before that time will be asked to
disperse.
5. To keep the line moving, we request that
attendees bring absolutely no more than
two items to be signed. Items should also
be prepared for signing. For example, DVD
inserts should be removed from the case
and posters should be unrolled.
dance policy
1. Only Anime Boston Attendees & Staff
with their badge visibly seen on their
person are allowed access. Anyone
without their badge will not be allowed
access.
2. Appropriate attire must be worn at all
times; this includes shirts/tops, pants/
skirts and shoes. Please keep these on for
the duration of the dance for your safety.
3. No bottles (glass or plastic), cans, or
containers of any kind will be allowed in
the dance. Water is provided by the hotel. If
a water dispenser is empty, please inform
the staff immediately.
4. Individuals who are disruptive, appear to
be intoxicated, or who behave in anyway
that jeopardizes the safety of others will
be ejected from the dance and will not be
allowed to return. Any of the above behaviors may result in the loss of your Anime
Boston Membership and removal from the
convention, upon decision of
Anime Boston Staff.
Anime Boston and the New England Anime
Society (NEAS) prohibit the consumption
of alcohol in public areas in use by the
convention. Follow all convention center
and hotel guidelines regarding consumption
of alcohol in shared public areas.
If convention staff suspects an attendee
under the age of 21 to be drinking or
intoxicated, a staff member will contact
the proper authorities. Anime Boston and
the NEAS DO NOT authorize, endorse, or
condone underage drinking under any
circumstances. We will follow all local,
state, and federal guidelines regarding
underage drinking.
5. No backpacks, bags, props, or purses
larger than 8” in any dimension can be
brought into the dance.
6. All dance attendees are subject to
voluntary search for contraband (weapons,
drugs, alcohol, and other illegal or prohibited materials) by an authorized Anime
Boston Staff Member. Participants shall be
notified through clearly posted signs at the
dance entrance and in the dance. You have
the right to refuse, but will not be allowed
to enter the room with these items.
7. Anime Boston is not responsible for
attendees’ belongings left outside, beside,
or near the entrance to the dance or
belongings left in the dance itself.
8. When break-dancing, stringing etc,
please only do so in the designated areas
that will be marked upon entry of the dance.
APRIL 6–8, 2012
65
RULES
9. Moshing and conga lines are strictly
prohibited. NO miscellaneous body parts
are allowed on the main dance floor other
than feet. This is a PG-13 event.
masquerade
seating policy
In order to streamline seating
for the Masquerade, Anime
Boston uses a ticket system.
Tickets will be FREE to all attendees and
handed out while supplies last on Saturday,
April 7th, starting at 9:00am. The ticketing
table is located in front of Rooms 108 and
109 on the 1st Floor of the Hynes.
There will be three types of tickets:
• Auditorium Floor
• Auditorium Balcony
One ticket will be issued per person and it
guarantees the ticket holder a seat in that
area. Anime Boston is not responsible for
lost/misplaced tickets; however, if tickets
are lost, seats may be available after those
with tickets have been seated.
Attendees will not be allowed to line up
for the Masquerade until two hours before
seating time. There will be a line for each
ticket type:
• Auditorium Floor ticket holders will
line up outside of the Auditorium
entrance
• Auditorium Balcony ticket holders will
line up on the Hynes 3rd Floor along
the windows
THERE WILL BE NO SIMULCAST.

Anime Boston 2012
hotel code of
conduct for
attendees
Anime Boston attendees
and staff must take the issue
of security very seriously to
ensure a safe, successful
convention. Two of the
primary security concerns are
providing attendee safety, and
protecting hotel property;
therefore, Anime Boston staff
and the convention hotels
have established the following
guidelines for conduct:
1. If you are responsible for any malicious
damage to hotel property or endanger
your own safety or the safety of any other
person at the hotel, you, and potentially
your hotel roommates, will immediately be
expelled from the hotel and Anime Boston.
Each attendee will be held legally and
financially responsible for any damage to
his or her hotel room. The hotel management may choose to prosecute people who
damage property in any way.
2. Theft of hotel, attendee, or other hotel
guest property is unacceptable and will not
be tolerated.
3. Noise level must be kept to a minimum
at all times, and attendees must not disturb
other hotel guests. Hotel policies state
that persons causing excessive noise
or disturbing other guests will be asked
to leave the hotel. The hotel will employ
a three strikes policy. Each hotel room
will receive two warnings. Upon the third
complaint, the hotel reserves the right
to eject the person(s) causing excessive
noise and Anime Boston will confiscate
convention badges. These persons will not
be permitted to register for future Anime
Boston events.
The above rules supplement those dictated
by United States Code, laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and laws
and ordinances of the City of Boston, hotel
policy, and Anime Boston’s group policy.
Violation of any of the above rules will
result in the expulsion of the attendee(s)
that violate these rules. Anime Boston
attendees are responsible for their actions.
The Sheraton has authorized Anime Boston
security to exercise appropriate supervision of attendees. Anime Boston security
staff will only enter into attendees’ rooms
when hotel approved security requests
their assistance through a member of the
Anime Boston Executive Staff, the Facilities
Liaison, Anime Boston Security Managers,
or Assistant Security Managers. Anime
Boston security staff are not authorized,
permitted, or trained to touch or physically
search attendees.
personal sound
device policy
Anime Boston is an all-ages
family-friendly event, and it
is our intention to make this
a pleasant experience for
everyone.
Recently, there has been a trend of
attendees using their personal radios or
external speakers for their portable media
devices in the hallways. Unfortunately, this
has been disruptive to programming events
and has created traffic problems. Should
you choose to use a personal sound device,
we ask you to be respectful of others—
including those in the rooms around you.
If a member of Anime Boston or event facilities staff asks you to turn the volume down,
please do so. If you see a large crowd of
people, please consider waiting to start
your performance until after it has cleared.
RULES
Those who wish to see your performance
will enjoy it much more if they are not being
jostled by people walking through the area.
Should an attendee be asked three times
to comply and fail, then the attendee will
be asked to leave the convention, possibly
forfeit their badge and in extreme cases
may be banned from all future NEAS Events.
Anime Boston’s sound policies are based
on civil guidelines put forth by the City of
Boston as shown in the following:
16-26.1 General Prohibition and Definitions.
No person shall make or cause to be made any
unreasonable or excessive noise in the city, by
whatever means or from whatever means or from
whatever source. As used herein, the following
terms shall have the following meanings:
a. dBa shall mean A-weighted sound level in
decibels, as measured by a general purpose
sound level meter complying with the provisions
of the American National Standard Institute,
“Specifications far Sound Level Meter (ANSI SIR
19711)”, properly calibrated, and operated on the
“A” weighting network
b. Load amplification device or similar equipment
shall mean a radio, television, phonograph,
stereo, record player, tape player, cassette player,
compact disc player, loud speaker, or sound
amplifier which is operated in such a manner that
it creates unreasonable or excessive noise.
c. Unreasonable or excessive noise shall mean
1. Noise measured in excess of 50 dBa between
the hours of 11:00 p.m.. and 7:00 a.m.., or in excess
of 70 dBa at all other hours; or
2. In the absence of an applicable noise level
standard or regulation of the Air Pollution control
commission, any noise plainly audible at a
distance of three hundred (300) feet or, in the case
of loud amplification devices of similar equipment,
noise plainly audible at a distance of one hundred
(100) feet from its source by a person of normal
hearing. lord. Tl4 § 354; Ord, 1991 c. 4 § ii”

anime boston?
If you didn’t sign up online to
volunteer before the convention, you can still sign up at
Anime Boston.
1. When you arrive at the convention, go
straight to the Volunteer Headquarters
(VHQ). If you are signing up as a volunteer
at the convention, remember to bring a
valid photo ID that has your name and
birthdate on it—no exceptions for this will
be made. You will be filled in on anything and
everything you need to know as a volunteer
as well as given everything you need to get
started. You will also receive your assignment/shift. Off you go!
2. When you are done with your assignment/
shift, return to the VHQ to check back in. You
will be signed off by one of the VHQ staff that
you have completed your shift. You can then
take a break or go on to your next assignment. Lather, rinse, repeat!

a volunteer. How these prizes are won are
kept secret and are only revealed only during the convention.
