Kid Quest Art activity and exhibition-related experiences for children ages five through 12 funded by Xcel Energy with additional support from Target. Art-Spook Halloween Party Annually in late October. A monster-mash-basho-rama with guest artists, costumes, ghoulish games, and spooktacular art. Sponsored by The Mojo 104.7, with additional support from Kohl’s. Kid Crawl In conjunction with the FMVA Studio Crawl, annually the first weekend of October. Parents can attend the FMVA Studio Crawl while kids play in the Kid Crawl. Lectures and Gallery Talks In conjunction with exhibitions. Experiences for Life! Museum classes and workshops for youth and adults. Opportunities for inquisitive people of all ages, includes adult classes, and camps for youth. Museum Visits Gallery tours with the option of a related art activity. 5 Fiscal Year 2008 • July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008 Rolling Plains Art Gallery photo • Mark Anthony Climate controlled semi-trailer housing original artwork that travels with the assistant curator of outreach to communities throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. Supported by National Endowment for the Arts and by the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fund for Education at Plains Art Museum Foundation. The Goldberg Art Lounge A hands-on learning space where the words “Don’t touch!” are never uttered! Visitors can experiment, problem solve, and learn about art through art-production, games, books, and DVDs in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Themed “ArtBins,” funded by Target, guide visitors in hands-on exploration of the art elements. Noon Holiday Concerts Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays the first two weeks of December. Musical performances by the area’s finest musicians in the relaxing atmosphere of the Landfield Atrium. Sponsored by High Plains Reader and The Mojo 104.7, with additional support from the Lake Agassiz Arts Council. Annual Spring Gala Held the first Saturday of May every year, highlighting an exhibition and featuring hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing, and art auction. Pauley, President/CEO (resigned 1/08) Mark Henze, Acting President/CEO (effective 1/08) In FY07, the Museum kicked off the “Little Artist in All of Us” campaign. The campaign continued throughout FY08. With the support of the community, the Museum will make even greater contributions to FargoMoorhead’s education, economy, and culture. The campaign includes: Foundation Board of Directors • extending its impact through the Center for Creativity, an exciting partnership with Fargo Public Schools and other educational entities. The Center will make art more accessible for artist and students of all ages in state-of-the-art studios and classrooms while it saves a historic block of buildings west of the current Museum. • Fingerprints interactive learning gallery planned for the second floor of the Museum • improved visitor services • a more secure financial future with a robust operating endowment and continued annual funding for programs • showcasing a major work by the celebrated artist and native North Dakotan, James Rosenquist With the community’s help, the Museum will continue to move forward and continue to enhance the quality of life for those who come here to live, work, visit, or learn. Attendance Museum Attendance: 39,853 Programs & Services Tours & Related Art Activities Classes/Workshops Living Artists Served Public Programs Outreach Attendance Total Programs and Services: 5,673 347 812 2,466 4,520 13,818 Volunteer Services In FY08, 103 active volunteers put in a total of 2,103 hours performing such crucial tasks as service on the governing board; spring fundraising gala committee work; educational roles in the Museum Visit program and during KidQuest, the Halloween Party, Kid Crawl, classes and camps; mailings; and archiving. Total 53,671 Major general operating support for FY08 was provided by members of the Plains Art Museum, the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, The FUNd at the Plains Art Museum Foundation, and the McKnight Foundation. General operating support was also provided by the North Dakota Council on the Arts, an agency of the State of North Dakota, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cities of Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo through the Lake Agassiz Arts Council, the William and Anna Jane Schlossman Fund as recommended by Marjorie Schlossman through the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation, the Lucien C. and Edna H. Barnes Fund, a component of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation, and The Norman M. and Eunice M. Jones Family Fund of the Lutheran Community Foundation. 9
