President Kim Sheldon 388-‐0050 VP–Competitive President’s Message This is an exciting time to be a Corvette enthusiast! The 2014 Stingray can be seen driving our streets daily, the 2015 Z06 has been introduced and in a convertible model (go figure!). Corvette racing is doing great and we are preparing for the 24 hour LeMans in France where our Corvette Racing teams will be participating. The National Corvette Museum (NCM) Motorsports Mac McDonagh Park announced the inaugural High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) in September and as a member of club who owns an acre th
552-‐9708 you get priority to register prior to the this event registration opening to the public on May 12 . And yes, we will be celebrating th
the 20 anniversary of the NCM this year with a Corvette Caravan and be a part of thousands of Corvettes and their owners converging on Bowling Green. Owning a Corvette and being a part of all this is great. Something many people only dream of and VP – Social yet every member of our club has an opportunity to say they are a part of some or all of the above. Activities Danny Meadows At our May club meeting we had a great discussion about our club car portion of our shows. We had seasoned members speak out on what showing their car and being a member of our club means to them. While we had newer members ask some great 695-‐8550 questions like, “will I need to spend thousands of dollars on bling to make my car show worthy?” VP – Membership The best answer for everyone is that being a member of this club will bring to you, and mean to you whatever it is you want it Christine Van Leir to. Y es, I h ave a car with a lot of bling and always have. But that was Chuck and my preference. That does not mean it is the right thing for everyone to do. Receiving votes on your car at our shows is a guessing game. The voters at any particular show 761-‐0453 may favor the older Vettes, and at other shows the participants favor the newer ones, and at some shows folks look for the cleanest car or the color and paint scheme they like best. If you participate in our shows and bring your car whether it is the Secretary oldest, fanciest, fastest, the one with the most bling, it is great to just be there meeting our guests and knowing that you are a Liz Furmanek member of a club who supports our community and raises money for local charities. I think that’s the best reason to be there! 569-‐2458 Once again I wish to thank everyone who participated and helped with the VDC show. It was one of our most successful shows and that is all due to the great club members we have. Today, many members of our club attended the Walterboro Cruisers Treasurer Show at the Veteran Victory House. Thanks to everyone who participated we “legitimately” kept the plaque by outnumbering the P
orsche’s attending. CCCC had 18 Corvettes attend and the Porsche club had 10 cars attend. Thank you to everyone. Jim Buckley 768-‐5645 Our executive committee meets in May to develop the second half of the year’s social activities, discuss the future development of the website, the bylaws and review the financials. It is only May and already we have had a busy first half of the V.P. Charities year. Barbara Ditmore It is important for us to reciprocate area club who supported our VDC show by supporting theirs. I hope that CCCC members will 881-‐8682 support the Capitol City Corvette Clubs show in May and the Myrtle Beach Corvette show in June. If interested in attending either you can find show information on the above mentioned clubs websites. We will plan a meeting time and place so those Board of Directors interested in caravanning can join us. This will be announced in an email to the entire club. Del Davids That is all for now. Hope to see you at our some of our events listed on the calendar and take care. Thanks for all you do as a CCCC member. I feel privileged to be a member of CCCC. 323-‐9778 Enjoy Your Vette with Your Club! SOCIAL ACTIVITIES SCHEDULE – Danny Meadows We had a raucous good time at Smokey Bones after the TTC Spring Spin Off Show. It was a very nice setting and great weather for the show and their largest attended show. Everyone seemed to enjoy both events. As we test our endurance levels this month for car shows... remember we have a th
cruise to Pawley's Island to have lunch at NOSH at 1:30pm on May 17 and so far 36 folks have signed up. Many of you will be at shows so good luck and bring home some trophies! Drive Safe, Have Fun! Danny Meadows, VP Social/Activities 2
COMPETITIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – Mac McDonagh Hello everyone, Well the show season is going hot and heavy now with “hot” becoming the operative word. •
Next weekend on May 17th the 2014 Miracle Cruise-‐in Open Auto Show will run from 9am to 2pm at the Sam’s Club in North Charleston. Registration is $20.00. •
Our first Super Saturday Show of the season will be on May 25th at Crews Chevrolet. Hope to see everyone there for our first show at this location. Proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. For those wishing to help out at the show please show up around 8:30 so we could get ready for hopefully a large turnout! •
On May 31st the Capitol City Corvette Club will hold the 6th Annual Spring Valley Open Car & Truck Show at Spring Valley High School in Columbia. Registration runs from 9am to noon and is $25 on show day. There are four classes of Corvettes with trophies for the top two in each class with participant judging. •
The Myrtle Beach Corvette Club will hold their 19th Annual Corvettes at Myrtle Beach show on June 7th at Broadway at the Beach. Day of show registration is $30 for this judged show. For a list of all the shows and cruise-‐ins that are happening in the area check out the SC Automotive Club Events Calendar on the club website. If you need any more info on these events feel free to contact me and as always, “SAVE THE WAVE.” Mac McDonagh, V.P. of Competition People’s Choice Awards
Our seventh annual Vette’s Doin Charleston show was held at the Citadel Mall for the second year in a row. You couldn’t ask for a better day, weather wise. The club car count was up from last year, with forty-‐one club Vettes in attendance. Congratulations to Charles Long for taking first place with his 1964 Convertible, Bill & Regina Johnson and their 63 Split Window in second, and Joe Michel and his 77 Coupe in third for the second year in a row. As for the season standings, Bill & Regina continue to hold the top spot after two shows. The biggest improvement in the season standings goes to th
th Adam & Michelle Self and their 2004 Z06. With their ninth place finish at Vettes Doin’ Charleston, they jumped 9 places from 18 to 9 place! Also for those new to the club, the third column on the season standing shows the change from the previous show’s standings. The symbol NC stands for no change, (+ and number) stands for the number of places improved, while (– and number) stands for the number of places lost. How the People’s Choice Awards Points System works
The club’s point system for the People’s Choice Awards is rather simple. It is based on the number of club cars attending the show times two. So if twenty club cars show up at our show, the max points for the show is forty (20 * 2 = 40). First place will receive 40, second will get 38, third receives 36 and will continue to twentieth place receiving 2 points. Let’s now say that 45 club cars are at the show, max points are now ninety (45 * 2 = 90). Now first is awarded 90, second gets 88, third receives 86, fourth place gets 84 and continues down to forty-‐fifth place receiving 2 points. So you see, the larger the show the more points are available. Let’s say you finish in first place at the twenty car show you will receive the max 40 points. Now at the second show with 45 club cars you finish in sixth place, there you’ll receive 80 points! Now let’s talk about ties, the points received is the average of the points received for those tied positions. Let’s use the twenty club cars show for this example. In this example second and third place received the same number votes so the average of those two placements is thirty-‐seven (38+36 = 75), (75 / 2 = 37). Enough with all the talk of numbers, below is an example of a show with twenty club cars in attendance. Hopefully the table below will help to make more sense of the system. Car # Votes Received Finish Position Points Received 4 19 1st 40 1 17 2nd 38+36= 75/2= 37 17 17 2nd 38+36= 75/2= 37 5 16 4th 34 10 15 5th 32 20 14 6th 30+28+26= 84/3= 28 14 14 6th 30+28+26= 84/3= 28 3 14 6th 30+28+26= 84/3= 28 13 12 9th 24 19 10 10th 22 8 9 11th 20 12 5 12th 18 18 3 13th 16+14= 30/2= 15 15 3 13th 16+14= 30/2= 15 6 1 15th 12 11 0 16th 10+8= 18/2= 9 7 0 16th 10+8= 18/2= 9 16 Display Only 18th 6+4+2= 12/3= 4 2 Display Only 18th 6+4+2= 12/3= 4 9 Display Only 18th 6+4+2= 12/3= 4 Mac McDonagh, V.P. of Competition 5
