It’s usually during this time of the year that we will see a drop in membership but I am proud of my Club members who have taken this positively and pledged to promote membership by bringing at least 2 visitors to our weekly meetings this month. I am sure with every member’s support we will definitely reach our goal in membership. We have started our signature project – Back To School (BTS) for this year and with all the effort by our members, we have managed to raise RM60K+, surpassing our initial target of RM50K. Kudos to all our members especially IPP Siva who managed to secure majority funding from corporate companies. BTS Phase 1 was held on 23rd December 2015 at Pusat Kebajikan Ar-Rahmaniah, Rasa, Selangor where school uniforms, bags, school stationeries and accessories were provided for 46 children from that home. We also held telematch games and food was sponsored by our corporate sponsor to make the event more merry. BTS Phase 2 was completed on 28th December 2015 involving 103 children from PPR San Peng, PPR Hang Tuah, PPR Seri Alam and PPR Sg Besi. BTS Phase 3 was held on 30th December 2015 involving 100 children from PPR Hang Tuah in collaboration with myPPP. Rotary Club of Subang sponsored Mydin vouchers worth RM50 each. BTS Phase 4 was completed at SMK Bukit Jalil where school uniforms, bags, shoes and school accessories were provided to 28 children. BTS Phase 5 at Manna Learning Centre where we provided KSSR textbooks and activity books from Year 1 till 6 for 36 Myanmar refugee kids. BTS Phase 6 was at SJKT Ladang Emerald, Shah Alam where stationeries and exercise books were provided for 50 students. BTS Phase 7 & 8 was completed for 51 students from SJKT Ladang Semenyih and 43 students from SMK Engku Husain, Semenyih. And finally BTS Phase 9 was completed for 30 students from SJKT Seaport, Kg Lindungan. In total we have reached out to more than 500 poor and underprivileged students around Klang Valley through the generous donations from the public. We strongly believe no child should be deprived of education due to lack of school accessories and we hope to see them excel in their education, which is the only way to eradicate illiteracy and social ills. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our donors who made this project a success yet again for the 5th year running. Our thanks and appreciation to all of you for coming together working with the District Committees to organize another successful Rotary Jamboree. Lots of fellowship and everyone enjoyed the Taiping hospitality. 65 Rotarians from 26 clubs were present. The morning kicked-off with cleaning the Burmese Pool, a natural pool surrounded with luscious greenery but polluted with debris. The clean up with 200 Interactors, students and Rotarians did their small part to save the environment. A Saturday well spent. Ravindran President, 2015-16 T +1.847.866.3235 F +1.847.866.3390 [email protected] My dear friends, I am pleased to bring you the good news that His Holiness Pope Francis will officiate at a Mass to Rotarians at St. Peter’s Square, Rome, on 30 April. We will have 8,000 seats reserved for Rotarians, as well as friends and family. It is my great pleasure to invite you to join me in Italy on this day as we celebrate the Jubilee of Rotarians, a special event hosted by Rotary District 2080 and the Vatican. In addition, local Rotarians will host special celebratory dinners and plan a service project for attendees. I believe this event is a tremendous honor that will raise Rotary’s status across so much of the world, and it should bring us all great happiness to be a part of it, regardless of our own religions and beliefs. For more information, please visit the Jubilee of Rotarians website, which has been provided by our friends in District 2080. Updates and additional information will be available leading up to the event. Registration will open 18 January. I ask that you also include mention of this event in your governor’s monthly letter. This Jubilee, as established by Pope Francis, is known as the Holy Year of Mercy. It marks the time of forgiveness and reconciliation, of solidarity, hope, and justice. It is a commitment to serve with joy and in peace across the world. As you work hard to Be a Gift to the World, I do hope you will make the effort to be in Rome with as many members of your district as possible. It’s still early in the year. Why not take a step back, make an honest assessment of your approach, and determine what you could do better. Here are six social media resolutions I think you should make this year to elevate your club’s social media exposure. 1. Be consistent – Post regularly and often. You won’t build a solid social media presence by posting every once and a while. If you are using Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, or Pinterest, post at least once a week. For Twitter, every one to two days is key. 2. Develop a social media schedule – Manage your time by planning your club social media activity in advance. Since you can schedule your Facebook posts days or weeks ahead of time, take advantage of this ability. You will quickly find managing your club Facebook page will become a lot easier and feel less ad hoc. 3. Mix it up – Look at how you can use new and different social media platforms, or different types of content, to engage your audience and promote the good things your club is doing. Why not shoot an enticing video for membership recruitment? Or pose a question, such as “What was one thing you found interesting about this week’s speaker?” 4. Develop a strategy – If your club is still using social media without a strategy, stop! A strategy will give your social media exposure purpose and identify the benefits to your club. Each social network has its own features, strengths, and best practices. But you want to make sure people are getting a cohesive message of what your club is about across all platforms. Start by defining goals and objectives. That will help you define your audience, choose the right platform, and determine your message. Do you want increased event participation? New members? Increased traffic to your website? To build an online community? What will success look like? What can you measure? 5. Establish guidelines –Dealing with the do’s and don’t of social media can be a minefield, so chart a path through it by creating a social media policy. Decide who can and will share online, who has password and login information, and who can be a backup if the main person is on holiday. Set clear boundaries for what you are going to share. If in doubt, get ideas from social media policies of other organizations. And make a crisis plan: what happens in the event of a PR emergency? 6. Have FUN – This is the most important resolution and one you should try to stick to. Use your social media platforms to let a little bit of personality shine through and share with your audience a mix of interesting, entertaining, humorous, or helpful content relevant to your club and community. While it can seem overwhelming, social media is the best Rotary promotional tool for building strong relationships and engaging with your community. If you set yourself some achievable goals this year, you and your club will reap the rewards.
