I remember when...
Before Lorton Avenue, before Park Road, Kerns lived on the center block
of Burlingame Avenue. Remember our old neighbors: Ingaborg’s Bakery,
Simpson’s Menswear and Woolworth’s to name a few? Don’t look too hard
for our old space, The Gap consumed our spot when it expanded.
Proud to celebrate 70 years!
Since the early days of Bostrom and Kern in the 1940’s, downtown
Burlingame has been a warm home to Kerns Fine Jewelry.
Starting out with a focus on jewelry and watch repair, Kerns
is proud of its growth into the bay area’s prime retailer
for many of the world’s finest watch and jewelry brands.
In addition to the brands we are known for, Rolex, Patek
Philippe, Seaman Schepps, Links of London
and Gemlok to name a few, this year Kerns is proud to
announce three additional collections. Famed Italian jewelry
designer Buccellati, Tudor and Raymond Weil Swiss watches.
This year’s book is a look back at a bit of Kerns’ history.

Kerns of Hillsdale before Hillsdale
was an enclosed mall. Kerns opened
this second location in 1974.

I remember when…
Hillsdale became an enclosed mall in 1982. This is our store just opposite
the elevator in the middle of the mall, ground floor. Kerns of Hillsdale
closed its doors in 1988, letting us focus on the Burlingame location.

Kerns is proud to announce our new partnership
with Buccellati, one of Italy’s oldest and most classic
brands. Since the mid 18th century, the Buccellati
family has been operating in Italy, although their iconic
style was solidified just after WWI by Mario Buccellati.
Featured are a few classic pieces from the Maria
Collection as well as some of their incredible hand
made Eternelles and Engraved Bands.

I remember when…
In 1988, Kerns relocated to Park Road. We were nervous to leave “The Avenue”
but soon found that everyone appreciated the larger store and the ease of parking!

In 1997 Kerns realized it was outgrowing its footprint. When the beauty parlor next door
moved out, Kerns moved in! This was the announcement card for the expanded store.

I remember when…
Alvin and Marjorie were fixtures in the store. In fact, after Kerns changed ownership in
July of 1972, Marjie made the first sale! Marj and Al met when she worked under his
management at a popular chain jewelry store in San Francisco. This is their wedding picture.
