A Letter From the
State Office
Again, we will hold three weeks of 360/Greenhand Conferences, along with hosting the
National FFA Officer team in January for a week
as they interact with members while traveling
across our state. Our state Alumni Association
has big plans for the upcoming year, as well, with

Also, it is obvious that Arkansas FFA members
Marion D. Fletcher,
embraced the theme of “I BELIEVE” this year.
State FFA Advisor
Not only did they believe in themselves, but
they believed in the Arkansas FFA Association. Chris Bacchus,
Public School Program
This year, we decided to create a “Year in Re- Advisor
view” publication that will spotlight some of the
major accomplishments made my our members
throughout the year. As you read, you will see
many exciting things have happened, including
an increase in chapters participating in the Leadership & Curriculum program, members excelling in various Career Development Events and
Leadership Events, and members experiencing
personal growth by attending conferences and
functions such as the World Food Prize, Heifer
International and traveling abroad.
Arkansas FFA Members prepare themselves
to be the leaders that are necessary for truly
making a positive difference in the world. This
theme of growth in our Association fits nicely
in to the 2012 National Convention theme of
GROW, which will be used throughout the year
at conventions and conferences.

FACING WORLD HUNGER
During December, the Arkansas FFA State Officer
team, along with the National FFA Officer team,
National FFA staff and Public School Program
Advisor Chris Bacchus spent a weekend in the Global Village at Heifer Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas.
While there, they learned more about world hunger
and the poverty situation facing us today. The group
divided into three “families” and spent the weekend
living the lifestyle of a family in poverty in three
different countries.
Arkansas FFA President
Travels To CHIN A
2011-12 State FFA President Victoria Maloch
When we were little, we always thought that if we
dug far enough in the dirt, we would reach China.
While I spent plenty of time playing in the dirt, I
never imagined that one day I would actually make
it to China. But, in January of this year, that is
exactly what I did as a part of the International
Leadership Seminar for State Officers (ILSSO).
This program is led by the National FFA Organization with the purpose of helping current and former
FFA state officers learn more about another
important geographic region and its role in matching the world’s food supply with global demand.
During the 10 days I spent in the country, I was able
to experience the culture and agriculture of China.
Arkansas FFA Recognized
for Hunger Relief
Some of the highlights of my trip include climbing
the Great Wall of China, seeing the Terracotta Warriors, visiting a cooperative dairy farm and watching
silk being processed and made into a usable form.

students at their school, applied for grants to start
community gardens, and increased their weekend

National FFA Alumni
Development Conference
Arkansas was the host state for the National FFA
Alumni Development Conference during the third
week of July. The National FFA Alumni Association
was organized 40 years ago and supports agricultural education on all levels. Alumni members from
across the country toured agricultural, educational,
and popular tourist locations across the state while
sharing ideas on how to grow their membership and
expand their support of FFA.

Did You Know?!
For the second year in a row, Agriscience Fair participation was up. This year, 49 members registered projects
in more than 20 categories. In effort to continue this
growth, plans are being made to host the fair earlier
during the year and possibly in a new location.
In 2011, more than 20
Arkansas FFA members
were recognized for earning
their American FFA Degree!
Great job, degree recipients!
