Why A Sit-On-Top?
A sit-on-top kayak. Yeah. That magic carpet gliding us through the blue to that place, that other
world (never as far from the shore as you’d expect it to be) where all those mountains you had to
scale this week become quiet little sand bars; where a good workout feels less about the ‘work’ and
more about the ‘out’; where interactive entertainment is something the kids navigate through with
a joystick that goes by the name of ‘trusty paddle.’
When the first sit-on-tops were unveiled several decades ago, many paddlers took to them
immediately, finding these boats less confining than traditional decked kayaks.
A lot has changed since then, and Ocean Kayak has not only been around longer than others to
see those changes – we spearheaded most of them. In fact in 1971 we originated sit-on-top kayaks
as they’re known today. Today’s sit-on-tops are not only great for most traditional paddling
situations, they make the perfect platform for snorkeling, fishing and casual water play. Many
paddlers swear by sit-on-tops for ocean surfing, exercise, camping, touring
or just relaxing.

Why An Ocean Kayak?
We told you about how we’ve been around longer than our competitors, and that we originated
sit-on-top kayaks as they’re known today. And while that oughta count for something, you should know
we’re not ones to just sit around jawing about the past. Instead, we keep on doing what we’ve been doing
for 35 years: innovating, inventing stuff and creating ways to make our sit-on-tops safer, more durable
and more enjoyable. Be it stackable hulls to save storage space, large hatch openings to help you stow gear
or patented overlapping foot wells for maximum versatility, we get downright, nit-pickingly detail oriented.
Partly because that’s our idea of fun, but also because it helps Ocean Kayak maintain our status as the
WORLD’S #1 SIT-ON-TOP KAYAK. YES, THE WORLD’S!!
Whew! That felt good. Anyway, other reasons we believe you should consider
purchasing an Ocean Kayak are that most of our sit-on-tops have a tri-form
hull design, with a built-in keel for easy tracking (traveling in a straight line)
and two ‘shoulders’ on either side for great initial and secondary stability.
And, hulls are designed to be extra strong through compound curves rather
than sharp lines or heavy stiffeners, so they’re less prone to breakage.
Finally, our materials are low maintenance, repairable, recyclable and
will last for many, many years if properly maintained. If all that’s not
enough, we offer a three-year warranty on every new Ocean Kayak.
