orangetown jewish center hosts “halleluyah in harmony”
ORANGETOWN JEWISH CENTER HOSTS “HALLELUYAH IN HARMONY” Memorial Day Unity Concert will showcase Singer/songwriter Neshama Carlebach featuring the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir (Orangeburg, NY) What do you get when you mix a large vessel of spirituality, mixed with a dash of humanity, and a pinch of soul?? You get Neshama Carlebach featuring the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30 at 7:00 pm at the Orangetown Jewish Center in Rockland County, NY. Neshama Carlebach, one of the leading superstars in Jewish entertainment, is continuing the legacy established by her father Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. His deep spirituality and his love of all humanity filled every song he wrote and touched every person he encountered as he changed the face of Jewish music. Like her father, Neshama’s talent and charisma captivate and endear her to people of all ages and backgrounds as she performs in cities all over the world. Together, with her band, she works with Reverend Roger Hambrick and the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir of Bronx, New York. “The goal of this concert event is to offer the blessing and ideal of unity to Rockland County by bringing together people of all faiths to enjoy music and learn from Neshama's optimistic message of hope for a better future.” said Rabbi Craig Scheff, Orangetown Jewish Center. Thanks to generous anonymous donors, all proceeds from this Memorial Day concert will be donated to Jewish War Veterans and Viet Nam Veterans of America. “We are grateful to the organizers and donors from the OJC for this wonderful event of reflection and collaboration and we look forward to joining with our neighbors and County veterans.” said Jerry Donnellan, Commissioner, Rockland County Veterans Office. “We thank the Orangetown Jewish Center and Neshama Carlebach for remembering our nation’s Vietnam Veterans and all veterans,” said John Rowan, National President, Vietnam Veterans of America. On the 2009 album Higher and Higher (http://www.sojournrecords.com/prod/artist/neshama_carlebach.) Neshama teamed up with the choir. Of her recent work, Neshama says, “Music and spirit is a balm that soothes many ills… we aim to visit communities that are struggling--struggling to find peace within the larger world. We aim to be there for at all stages of life, at all stages of the journey of the soul.” Rabbi Paula Mack Drill of the Orangetown Jewish Center agrees. “Our vision is to throw open the doors of our synagogue to our neighbors here in the county. We believe that more unites us than divides us and through “Halleluyah in Harmony,” we hope to start a tradition in Rockland of coming together to celebrate on American holidays.” Rabbi Scheff and Rabbi Drill are currently enlisting other houses of worship across faiths to join as a participating congregation. If you are interested in your faith organization becoming involved, please contact Rabbi Drill at [email protected]. Tickets for this concert are on sale for $10 through PayPal or through participating churches and synagogues. Tickets will be available at the door for $15.
