engagement, these days, but talking about
it is one and making it happen is quite
another.
Enter, both literally and thematically, the
Connected Patient Learning Gallery.
Situated on the Exhibit Floor at the 2014
HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition,
the gallery is a showcase for a new HIMSS

As Mary Griskewicz, HIMSS senior director
for health information systems, summed it up,
“The Connected Patient Learning Gallery is a
hands-on, interactive area showcasing innovative health IT products and services that
address various aspects of e-engaging providers and patients as well as ways to integrate
these products for patient care.”
Those products and services consist of an
array of technology tools that are all aimed at
facilitating more and better patient engagement, and provider engagement, too.
To help explain the new tools, the Gallery
will consist of themed kiosks that break the
offerings down into four categories:
Health management: featuring patient
portal technologies;
Wellness social & behavioral: featuring
fitness, weight management, social communities technologies;
Financial health: featuring health banking and healthcare payments technologies;
Home health: featuring at-home and telemedicine solutions technologies.
According to Griskewicz, “the Connected
Patient Learning Gallery will provide a unified
look at how physicians and patients can connect via IT to improve healthcare. It is really
a visual learning place that introduces some
health IT products and services already in use
by healthcare providers, which means for physicians, that some of their peers have tried out
these applications.”
