Buffalo Bill Cody used this car to travel with his Wild West Show from 1906 until his death in 1917. The car was built in 1903 by the Pullman Palace Car Company, as the private car for the president of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. The interior contains a sitting room with sleeping berths, a dining room, kitchen, and a bathroom with showers. The original oil lamps have been converted to electricity. The car is furnished with turn-of-the-century antiques and still houses the private china, flatware and serving pieces. 2. The Cascade • Business Car 100 Railroad experts regard this car as “the most magnificently preserved specimen” of an 1890’s private business car. The Cascade was built in 1897 by the Pullman Palace Car Company for the president of the Colorado Midland Railroad. Mr. D.H. Gerbaz, of Woody Creek, Colorado, preserved the car for decades in a barn before it was brought to Las Vegas and restored by Mr. John Small. The car contains a sitting room with convertible sleeping berths, an observation area with upholstered booths, a guest room, a stateroom, a dining room, a bathroom and small kitchen. The car also contains original 1897 interior inlaid wood paneling with ornate carved trim, windows, copper screens, and mirrors. The original pintsch gas lamps have been retrofitted to electricity. Many of the furnishings are period antiques. 3. The Street Lamps from the Town Square of Brussels, Belgium. These red granite and bronze lamps were originally installed in 1870 in Brussels’ Central Square. They were dismantled and stored for protection prior to World War I. They remained in storage until purchased and brought to Las Vegas. 4. Stained Glass from Lillian Russell’s Pittsburgh mansion. This outstanding Victorian allegorical stained glass window was presented to Lillian Russell by “Diamond Jim” Brady. Lillian Russell was a famous American singer and actress. 5. The original “Goldie’s Window” This outstanding example of Victorian stained glass artistry originally graced Ms. Goldie Schiesser’s home in St. Joseph, Missouri. Goldie refused to sell the window, until finally an art dealer from Aspen, Colorado agreed to buy the entire home. This is the original window which was later reproduced by stained glass artist Mark Bogenrief. His replicas are located at several locations throughout Main Street Station. 6. Fluted Columns from the Windsor Barracks. These cast iron columns originally supported the Barracks which housed the Army guards of the British Throne in London, England. Inside the building… 7. Mahogany Apothecary Cabinetry The ornate mahogany woodwork which now graces the casino entry, hotel registration desk and the Company Store was removed from a turn-of-the-century drugstore in Covington, Kentucky. Hammered tin relief panels and beveled glass embellish the intricate carving. Pharmaceutical drawers in the Company Store feature the original nickel and brass pulls and contents plaques. 8. Beveled Glass Transom and Sidelights from Lillian Russell’s Mansion. These intricate beveled glass panels were part of the entrance to Ms. Russell’s Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania home. 9. Bronze Doors and Facade from the Kuwait Royal Bank. The Players Club entry was originally installed in the early 1900’s as the main entrance to the Kuwait Royal Bank in London. 10. Entry Doors to the Pullman Mansion. These massive doors were removed from the Pullman Mansion in Prairie, Illinois. The Pullman Company built and operated many of the passenger, dining and sleeping cars during the heyday of America’s railroads. The doors feature copper relief figures, and the side casings include pilasters designed by noted architect Stanford White. 11. Fireplace and Sideboard Niche from Preswick Castle, Scotland The Pullman Grille dining room was built around these ornate carved oak fireplace and wine storage cabinets; the unique sideboard niche includes panels which depict characters and morals of Aesop’s Fables. 12. The Louisa Alcott This Pullman parlor car was built by the Pullman Company in 1927, and was one in a series of cars named for women authors and poets. The car has been refurbished to provide an elegant cigarsmoking lounge. uide to 13. Chandeliers from the Coca-Cola Building, Austin, Texas The three exquisite bronze chandeliers above the central pit were originally installed in the 1890’s in the Coca-Cola Building in Austin, Texas. 14. Chandelier from the Figaro Opera House, Paris, France. This Art Nouveau style chandelier now hangs in the rotunda near the bridge to the California Hotel & Casino. 15. Bronze and Crystal Beaded Chandeliers These majestic chandeliers are typical of the ornate beauty of the Victorian era and now hang under the southern stained glass skylights, near the valet parking entrance. The intricate crystal beading is accented with a motif representing acanthus leaves. Artifacts, Antiques & Artworks 16. The Wild Boar from Nice, France This huge brass boar originally served as a fountain in Nice, France, and was a replica of a Renaissance period original in Florence, Italy. 17. Chandeliers from the San Francisco Opera House These majestic bronze and crystal beaded chandeliers were created in the 1850’s and now hang throughout the Garden Court Buffet. 18. Goddess Fortuna This beautiful Italian marble statue, located in the Garden Court Buffet, depicts Lady Luck, holding a set of dice in her uplifted hand and a deck of cards in the other. Legend holds that her gaze brings good luck. 19. A Portion of the Berlin Wall This graffiti-covered segment of the oppressive wall that once separated East and West Berlin now serves an appropriate function in the Gentlemen’s Restroom. Sorry, ladies. Main Street Station recreates turn-of-the-century opulence with unique design, detailed craftsmanship and an extensive collection of authentic antiques, architectural artifacts, artworks and collectibles. This guide describes some of the most notable antiques and artifacts; however, the Main Street Station collection is so extensive we couldn’t list everything.
