For the rich and successful, the Ferrari 250 was the success status symbol for its 19531964 production run. It was powered by an extraordinarily light V-12 engine producing
nearly 300hp and it was available in a swarm of variants, body-styles, and packages.
Styling varied from the somewhat blocky and blunt originals to incredibly modern models
in the early sixties. Of course, all that performance comes at a price—a fair condition
1960 Ferrari might cost half a million dollars. Or you can build one in 1/24 for far less than

Faster to the fight
Shimakaze was literally one of a kind. This fast, heavily armed destroyer was Japan’s test
bed for a new type of propulsion system. Its steam turbine engines propelled it to 47 mph
in test runs despite it carrying twice the guns and more sophisticated torpedoes than any
other destroyer running. Japan had originally wanted to launch sixteen of these vessels,
but the realities of war and limited production kept Shimakaze in a class all by herself.

Kawasaki Ki-61s were a clear departure from the standard Japanese aircraft of World
War II. Where other Japanese aircraft used radial engines, the Ki-61 was powered by
an inline V engine license built on a Daimler-Benz design. Additionally, it featured more
armor, heavier guns, and self-sealing fuel tanks—features mostly lacking on Japanese
aircraft of the time. American forces were keen to get their hands on these unorthodox

advantage of the large amount of practically obsolete medium bombers Germany had
near the end of the war. In spite of the impressive amount of explosives detonated, the
effect of Germany’s Mistel program was limited. Kit features both aircraft of a “Mistel”

Own the night
With twin forward-firing 20mm, twin upward-firing 30mm cannons, and one of the most
sophisticated search radars of its day, the He 219 was an effective counter to large nightflying RAF bombers. Upward-firing cannons allowed night fighters to fly, undetected, close
beneath enemy bombers and tear them open with high-caliber rounds. Fortunately for
the allies, these aircraft were only deployed in relatively small numbers and close to the
close of the war.

surrender. Instead, it began designing ever wilder and more impossible aircraft such as the
Me P.1101. This jet-propelled aircraft was novel in many ways. Variable wing geometry,
compound sweep wings, and a plethora of conceptual variants made it one of the leastunderstood aircraft to be designed in the closing days of the Third Reich. No production
aircraft ever made it to the air—much to the relief of Allied aircrews everywhere.

The “Komet” was by far the fastest aircraft of its day—powered by a combination of
hydrazine and hydrogen peroxide, this rocket aircraft could attain speeds near to 600
mph. For attaining altitude and evading enemy fighters, this impressive speed was an
advantage. However, against the Komet’s favored 4-engine heavy bomber targets, the
Komet could close at over 300mph. With the limited effective range of the Komet’s 30mm
armament, this gave mere seconds of firing time. The Komet was effective, but was
phased out in favor of the Me 262. Kit features photo etched parts, fully detailed engine
and pilot and ground crew.
