The band is comprised of four musicians that have a passion for perpetuating the sounds of the great instrumental classic hits from the late 50’s and 60’s. That unique sound is lost today in the myriad of digital effects and signal processors. The Surfin’ Tones have incorporated the original tube amplifiers, reverb units, Fender guitars and Ludwig drums from the era, and are fanatical about reproducing the ‘original’ sound of the periods great music artists. The members include Greg Darby on lead guitar, Geoff West on drums and percussion, Bill Striker on Bass, and Greg Sutherland on rythum guitar and keyboard. The band has aggregated over 150 years of musical experience, and relies on the combined strength of it’s members to continue to “hone the tone!” What We Play The Surfin’ Tones play “classic” instrumental hits from the leading recording artists of the 50’s and 60’s including The Ventures, Duane Eddy, The Chantays, The Sufaris, The Marketts, The Pyramids, The Bel Airs, Santo and Johnny, Dick Dale, Link Wray, The Pharos and many more. Our play list features the recognizable songs that made the “Top 10 Hit Parades” and includes such recognizable tunes as Pipeline, Walk Don’t Run, Apache, Wipe Out, Sleepwalk, Tequila, Telstar, Hawaii Five-0 and others. Where We Play The Surfin’ Tones are best suited to play events that fit the genre of our music. We have played ‘corporate’ beach theme events, municipal festivals, lounges, beach parties, private parties, classic car shows and large venues. Proudly displaying original 1960’s Fender and Ludwig equipment, the band perpetuates the original classic sounds of the great instrumental era. From original Fender reverb tanks, amplifiers, and guitars to a restored Ludwig drum set, the band looks as great as they sound. Sound and lighting are an important complement to any musical venue. The Surfin’ Tones stage lighting and PA system provides the right amount of sound and ambience for any occasion. Original JBL wedge monitors and JBL vertical towers provide a dynamic sound projection for just the right effect and punch when it’s needed. Multi-spectrum lighting adds a touch of color to the band and original equipment on stage and up close. Custom designed ‘effect’ boxes, external reverb tanks and lots of dual fifteen-inch JBL Fender cabinets round out the vintage effect of the bands performance. Original clear and crisp sound with the right amount of reverb and vibrato with the great guitar licks plus effective percussion equals the unparalleled sound of instrumental classics. The bands goal is to perpetuate the sound of the original masters of instrumental music with a timeless quality that only the best in vintage era equipment can provide.
