community
Welcome to fabulous February and another vibrant day at Bellingen Community Markets (BCM).
Trust you had an excellent month and are ready for an enjoyable, productive community day.
BCM grows from strength to strength, gaining in popularity and pace. Bringing together producers,
artists, services and NFP groups under one big umbrella is a fantastic feat for everyone involved. We
congratulate you for your dedication, drive and sharing with the community. Our expansive, beautiful
environment
grounds affords BCM to spread out and transpire with passion and purpose every 3rd Saturday of
the month. Multicultural diversity of many tastes embrace BCM as we connect and collaborate.
Coming together provides choice, opportunity, good times and relationships to flourish.
Talking about tastes.... mangoes are the flavour of the month. With a bumper season many are
reaping the rewards of mango delight. Eat them green, yellow or orange, chop up for salads and
curries, mango and chilly chutney is delish, sauces, smoothies, ice-cream and delectable cocktails,
so many uses with so many health benefits. Mangos are in season for a very good reason so don't
culture
delay, have a mango today from one of our produce stalls.
Hope you had a lovingly sweet Valentines Day yesterday. If you don’t have any admirers or loves
we hope you gave yourself that extra bit of nurturing care, as you deserve it.
NORTHBANK COMMUNITY GARDENS (NCG) is our wonderful
community group this month. They’ve made a positive impact on the
region by encouraging and teaching the importance of healthy food and
heritage
lifestyles. 2008 saw them create a community garden which now boasts
over 100 fruit trees and rare vegetables. Their NFP nursery sells a large
range of organic, open pollinated, heritage seedlings and fruit
BROADFOOT
trees. NCG initiated the Bellofoodbox venture and in partnership with
Transition Bellingen and Bellingen Chamber of Commerce planted edible
streetscapes in town. BCM is proud to support NCG and aligns with their
philosophy of
reducing energy used to grow, package, store and transport food by growing and
buying local. It’s fresher, cheaper and healthier. NCG are a mission to positively contribute to the
good health of our community and environment so please support them when you can.
LIVE ON STAGE from 10am is the groove, funk, rock based blues and jazz band Broadfoot.
Winning a range of categories in the NCEIA Dolphin Awards they impress audiences everywhere
playing originals, classic 50’s, 60’s, 70’s rock and blues, reggae, jazz, soul, disco, funk folk and
classical. The trio deliver brilliant musicianship with an interconnection of improvisation, tuning in to
JUZZIE SMITH

Broadfoot from 10am to 2pm on the main stage and 5pm at the Federal Hotel Bellingen.
Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Juzzie Smith is also playing throughout the day in E Section
food area. Don’t miss the hypnotic beats and enchanting melodies of Juzzie, he’s a true musical
virtuoso who gives an energized performance playing amazing guitar, harmonica and percussion, all
at the same time. He uses anything that makes a sound and combines this with a rhythmic talent
and raw, warm vocal style. The result is truly engaging, mesmerizing music enticing the listener to
move and feel inspired.
