CORPORATE
OVERVIEW
Founded in January of 1981 and based in Lawrence, Kansas, Starfire
became fully operational in April of 1988. Starfire's experience in freight,
passenger, transit and locomotive engineering, as well as general railroad
operations, stems from company President Andrew Spurlock's 16 years with
the Burlington Northern Railroad.
Andy began as a Mechanical Department trainee and ultimately culminated
his tenure as Chief Mechanical Engineer, responsible for the railroad's
freight, locomotive, passenger car and business car fleets, as well as all
system shop machinery and equipment.
Starfire's engineering expertise extends to most types of freight cars,
diesel, electric and steam locomotives, and transit/passenger vehicles, as
well as to more traditional track and bridge, and maintenance of way
equipment.
For over a decade and a half, Starfire has forged a reputation as a
reliable and effective resource for our transportation clients, design and
engineering needs.
Both within the United States and abroad, Starfire's clients include the
following: Class One, regional and short line railroads, new freight car
manufacturers, freight car repair shops, various private car owners,
railcar leasing firms, railway supply companies, transit vehicle
manufacturers, track and bridge contractors, other rail industry
consulting/engineering firms and transportation industry legal
departments (see enclosed customer listing on page 5).
Starfire is a professional engineering firm and while we do not maintain a
shop or assembly plant of our own, we do provide our customers with
excellent direct and indirect shop support services.
