Many of the Fall Corvair events have concluded and from what members had to say they were well attended
and everyone had a lot of fun. As we move into November the car club outings slow down and we start to focus
on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s hard to believe but Christmas is only two months away!
In early October, Richard and Sara and Dee and I represented the QCCC by attending the “Vairs at the Fair” in
Perry, GA along with the Heart of Georgia and Corvair Atlanta Clubs. Richard and Sara have attended
numerous times but this was the first time for Dee and me. We had a great time as we do every time we get
together with the two Georgia Corvair clubs. Since the event was only one week before “Vairs in the Valley” I
realize that many of you had to make the hard decision of which event to attend.
At our last QCCC meeting, we discussed the suggestion to eliminate club dues starting in 2014 as long as a
minimum balance is maintained in our club treasury. We had a lot of good discussion covering a lot of relevant
points. In the end the club decided to leave the dues structure as it currently is.
By the time you read this, the Corvair event in St. Augustine, FL will either be on our doorstep or completed.
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and Christmas is just around the corner. Plan on enjoying the upcoming
holidays with your family and get your Corvair out while the weather is still very comfortable.

Nov. 18….QCCC meeting at the Golden Corral located at 9430 South Blvd. Dinner is at 6pm and the meeting begins at
7pm. All members and interested guests are welcomed to join us. You do not have to have a Corvair to
attend, but if you do own a Corvair, drive it. You just might win a prize.

1966 LA built, 500 with factory AC (AC does not work), 140 engine, 4 speed transmission, good tires. Does not
have smog on it and it does need to be restored. All numbers match. Was apparently a special order car and

1966 Corsa Convertible. Mechanically renovated after a 30 year indoor slumber. In low #3 condition. Body will need

Price Reduced Specials:
A 99% complete A/C system from a 1966 Corvair Monza coupe includes compressor, condenser, brackets, wiring
harness and several pages of drawings and measurements. I think the only thing missing is the vent grille that goes

Her Car Keys…submitted by Al Rich
Several days ago as I left a meeting at a hotel; I desperately gave myself a personal TSA pat down.
I was looking for my keys. They were not in my pockets. A quick search in the meeting room revealed nothing.
Suddenly I realized I must have left them in the car. Frantically, I headed for the parking lot. My husband has scolded me
many times for leaving the keys in the ignition.
My theory is the ignition is the best place not to lose them. His theory is that the car will be stolen.
As I burst through the door, I came to a terrifying conclusion. His theory was right. The parking lot was empty. I
immediately called the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and that it had been
stolen.
Then I made the most difficult call of all, "Honey," I stammered; (I always call him "honey" in times like these.) "I left my
keys in the car and it's been stolen."
There was a period of silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard his voice.
“Are you kidding' me", he barked, "I dropped you off"! Now it was my time to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, "Well, come
and get me."
He retorted, "I will, as soon as I convince this cop I didn't steal your car." Yep, it's the golden years................

Meeting Minutes for October 21, 2013…submitted by Dee Charest
1.) Call to order: President Dick Charest called the meeting to order at 7:08pm.
2.) Roll call:
We had 20 members present and no visitors.
3.) Treasurer’s report:
The financial report was presented by Treasurer Al Rich and accepted as read.
3.) Monthly drawing:
The name drawn was Leslie Nielson who was not present and lost $60. Next month’s drawing will be for $70.
4.) Who drove their Corvair:
A. 6 members drove their Corvairs to the meeting.
1. Marvin Crook’s name was drawn and he won a Clark’s Oil Filter.
2. Kathy Lopez’s name was drawn and she won a Clark’s Fan Belt.
5.) Sick Members:
A. Victor Butler is doing some better. Spence said Victor was in his shop recently.
B. Dee Hartman is in the hospital, but will be going home in a day or two. He will be returning the following
Monday to have By-Pass surgery.
C. Ted Picano. Dee read an e-mail she received from Ted. He had been in the hospital due to chest pains and
shortness of breath. It was discovered that he had a 90% blockage of his left Anterior Descending the heart’s
main artery. A stent was put in and he said he feels much better. He was told he could go back to work on a
part time bases, he has to modify his diet and start walking, but no more than two times a day. Richard
reported that Ted drove himself to the hospital and then back home after all of this was over with!

D. Sara Jenkins reported that Rod and Nicole had their baby on October 16 . He weighted 8 pounds and 5
Ounces and was 20 inches long. They named the little guy Greyson Cooper Kennen. Everyone is doing fine.
6.) Activities Report
A. Open House at Dennis Carpenter’s Museum. Glenn Simmons was not there to give a report. No one knew if
anyone went or not.
B. AutoFair, Charlotte Motor Speedway. Marvin Crook reported there were 23 cars there on Saturday and told
the winners. Dee reported when we are upstairs, we never have enough room for all of our Corvairs and we
don’t get to park them together. We had to park about 6 or 7 of our cars away from the rest of our club. See
last month’s newsletter.
C. Good Vibrations Car Show in Bessemer City. Scott Good reported that this show was a huge success. There
were 200 cars there, which included 8 Corvairs. This show was a fund raiser for some church and they took in
$16K. They also were selling Tee-Shirts for $20 that had been donated to the church.
D. Vairs at the Fair in Perry, GA. Sara Jenkins reported that there were 30 Corvairs leading the parade. This
included 4 QCCC members that attended, Richard & Sara and Dick & Dee. The Corvairs led the parade and
threw out candy to the kids along the way. We had a nice HD & HB meal on Friday night and wonderful
Catfish and Shrimp dinner on Saturday night. Richard invited more folks to go next year.
E. Vairs in the Valley. Sara Jenkins reported that it was a really nice show with beautiful weather and a great
turnout of Corvairs. There were 65 Corvairs there and they celebrated the anniversary of the 1964 Corvairs. –
There were about 20, 1964 Corvairs there.
F. Covered dish at Ray and Kathy Schafer’s house. Sara and Richard went to this and said they had a good time
and good food. She told about a 1963 Corvair Convertible Ray had bought and it only had 10K miles on it.
G. This is not a club activity, but Scott Good told about the anniversary present he was planning on getting his
wife Barbara this year, which was a bracelet with a charm on it. The charm was going to be the number 48 to
represent the number of years they had been married. When he told his son, Tim about this idea, the first
thing Tim said was, “Oh, that’s Jimmie Johnson’s race car number! So Scott then thought maybe he’d better
not get that as a gift. (Only a man would have thought of racing. Barbara would have known immediately that
it stood for the 48 long years of being married to Scott). From a woman’s view point, I thought it was a sweet
and thoughtful idea myself.
7. Old Business
A. Carry over from last month’s discussion. Everyone was asked to give some thought to the idea of possibly
discontinuing our annual $12 dues. After much discussion it was decided that we would continue with our
current dues of $12 a year.
B. We also discussed the fact that the yearly cost per person to print the newsletter and mail it out to just our
members that receive a hard copy was $31.56. When you subtract the $12 annual dues from this, it means
the club is subsidizing $19.56 per member, per year that receives a hard copy or $312.96 a year. It was
agreed that we would just leave our dues at $12 a year and let the club subsidize the $312.96 for these
newsletters.

7.) Up-Coming Events
A. Corvair Affair in St. Augustine, FL. Richard and Sara are the only QCCC members planning to attend.

B. QCCC Meeting. Next meeting is scheduled for November 18 .
C. QCCC Christmas party.
1. Carl Klump reported that the ladies are happy to prepare our dinner again for us.
2. We can have anything we want for our meal.
3. The VFW charges $450 per night for use of the room, but because Carl is a member we do not have
to pay this fee.
4. We will be sending Carl a menu this week to pass along to the ladies.

D. Monty Beaver told about the Veterans Day Parade that is going to be held in Lancaster on November 9 .
1. He always drives his Corvair in it and invited anyone else that wanted to participate to contact him.

2. The cut off date to let it be known that you would like to participate is Friday, October 25 .
E. Dick Worley told about the Good Guy Car Show at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday,

November 25 and Saturday, November 26 . He said it was a really good show and better than AutoFair. You

8.) Members Cars:
A. Marvin Crook reported that his car would be out of the paint shop “Next week”…again.
B. Dick Worley reported that his car would be out of the shop “Next week” also…...again.
D. “Gracie”, Dee’s Rampside will be getting different brakes ( front wheel disc brakes).
9.) 50/50 Drawing. The 50/50 winner for this month was Willard Moody. He went home $64 richer than he came. He
won both his half and the club’s half. Willard is really lucky just about every time he comes to a meeting. 
10.) Closing: Monty Beaver closed the meeting with a prayer and the meeting adjourned at 8:05pm.
Corvairs at the Auction…Written by the Editor of the “Vairmail”

Many of you were following the hype about the Lambrecht Chevrolet auction of some 500 vehicles remaining after the
closing of the Chevrolet agency in 1996. It has been an internet sensation on national as well as local TV news (just
google lambrecht auction). You can also go to corvaircenter.com and see some of the pictures and bid results.
Who would have thought Corvairs would fetch $30K and $40K. But one would never expect to find one with only 17
original miles either. They also had one 1960 Corvair that had only 1 mile on the odometer.
It’s Race Time…written by John O’Harra, Editor of the Corvair Atlanta Newsletter
I decided to attend the 2013 Gear Jam Vintage Drag Race and Car Show in Commerce, GA this weekend. I took my seat
in the stands and was surprised to see a Corvair pulling up to the starting line. The announcer was as startled as I was
and said he had never seen a Corvair in a drag race in his many years of covering them.
The Corvair finished the trial in just over 9 seconds for the Quarter mile, with an estimated speed of 105 MPH. The
announcer admitted he didn’t know much about Corvairs and demonstrated so by proclaiming, “That driver must be
running on all four cylinders!”
I scurried down to the pit area to see who the brave driver was and it turned out to be our very own Billy Bruce in his 1963
“Turbo Coupe”. Just to be sure, I counted and all 6 cylinders were present and accounted for.
I did not stay until the en, so I don’t know how Billy ended up in the final standings, but he stayed in contention through
each of the time trials. Thanks Billy for representing the rear engine class so well.
WHY SENIORS STILL NEED NEWSPAPERS
I was visiting my daughter last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper. "This is the 21st century," she said.
"We don't waste money on newspapers. Here, use my iPad." I can tell you this….that fly never knew what hit him 

Visiting Willard Moody’s Plantation…submitted by Scott Good
This past Thursday, Marvin and I made our way to Willard Moody's plantation. What a place to view and just to walk
around and see history for the past 40 years. While working through his treasures, I found a Huffy CORVAIR bicycle.
What caught my eye was a Corvair bike on the front of his camper, but Willard would not sell it, but he informed me he
had two in the back. What a place to tour and visit. Before the day was over, a diamond shape Cheerwine sign, a Sun
Drop sign, and most of all, a Cheerwine bench was purchased. We topped the day off by eating at a local barbeque place
and the fellowship was just awesome. Willard is a mild mannered man that enjoys life and it was a joy just to be around
him and his collections. And yes, I am going back. See ya, from on the road guide.

The chance of rain Saturday, September 21, at the 2013 Fall Charlotte AutoFair, did not hinder the turnout as cars lined
the front and back stretch of Charlotte Motor Speedway and vendors packed the swap meet area in the infield.
Manufacturer’s Row in the NASCAR garage was full of the newest parts, and under the front stretch grand stands was the
car club gallery and car auction.
We went through the infield and racetrack on the hunt for some cool cars and parts for our project cars. Weather calls for
clear skies tomorrow when Global Rallycross kicks off at 1:30pm. If you can’t make it to the track, the race will air live on

If you are in need of a good Corvair mechanic, I would like to recommend one that I use and he does excellent
work. He is very detailed oriented and I know you will be very pleased with his quality of work. His name is

Vairs at the Fair…submitted by Dee Charest
On October 4 Dick and I went to Perry, Georgia for the Vairs at the Fair show that is hosted by the Heart of Georgia
Corvair Club. On Friday night they served us HD’s and HB’s with all the trimmings plus desert. They also had 3 guys
there playing their guitars for our entertainment. One of the men was Lillian Law’s nephew. They each played a guitar
and did a wonderful job.
The next morning we met early and lined up for the parade. We had a total of 30 Corvairs there, which included 4
Rampsides, 2 Greenbriers, 1 Ultra Van, 1 dune buggy that had a Corvair engine in it and the other 22 Corvairs were a
mixture of Earlies and Lates, Coupes and Convertibles. The convertibles were in the lead, because they were carrying
the dignitaries. Then the rest of the Corvairs fell in behind them, but stayed grouped together by body styles.
The Corvairs led the parade through town and into the Georgia National Fair. Everyone was throwing candy out to all the
kids lined up on the route that the parade was traveling on. Once we arrived at the fairgrounds, we lined our Corvairs up
right in the center of the Fair grounds so everyone at the Fair had to pass by our Corvairs. We lined the Rampsides up
right in the middle of the walking area, so they really got a lot of attention. Everyone that stopped had lots of questions
about our cars. It was really nice to see so much interest from the folks there.
We stayed at the Fair until 3:00pm and then left as a group and went back to the hotel, where we were treated to some
wonderful Catfish and Shrimp with all the trimmings again. The Catfish and Shrimp were delicious!! I’m ready to go back
again. I hope next year we can have more of our QCCC members joining us down there. You’ll be glad you went and I
promise you’ll have a great time.
