Hilton hotels offer unique lodging on 228
It’s no secret that the Route 228
corridor is bustling and booming
with activity, driven in large part by
growth in the Cranberry Woods and
Cranberry Springs developments, with
future opportunities in the new Village
of Cranberry Woods. In particular,
Cranberry Woods with its high-profile
employers like Westinghouse, Mine
Safety Appliances, PPG, and Aesynt, as
well as strong industry leaders such as
Prodigo, Net App, Net Tech, and many
others, has been a driving force for
the Township’s ever-expanding hotel
network. Cranberry is now home to
eleven hotels, with four more under
construction or planned for completion
by the end of 2017. Yet, there is no sign
of an over-saturation of the market here.
Two recent additions to Cranberry’s
hotel offerings – Hilton Garden Inn
and Home2 Suites – are a direct result
of the robust growth along Route
228. Managed by Vista Host, the
hotels’ main business functions are to
provide comfortable, convenient, and
clean overnight accommodations to
all business and leisure travelers in
the area, according to Kaitlyn ReimWentworth, Vista’s Vice President of
Sales and Marketing. While those
ambitions may not set them apart
from other hotel groups, their
diverse offerings make them
a desirable selection for the
many travelers frequenting
the businesses located in
Cranberry Woods.
Opening in May 2012, the
136 room Hilton Garden Inn
became the first building
constructed in the Village of
Cranberry Woods, a mixed-
use development located immediately
adjacent to Cranberry Woods office
park. Home2 Suites, with 79 rooms,
followed in July 2014, right down the
hill in Cranberry Woods proper. Both
met high demand for accommodations
in the area while offering unique
characteristics. Home2 is a “modern,
environmentally friendly, all suite
property. We provide guests with all
the comforts of home,” shares ReimWentworth. The Hilton Garden Inn
presents different opportunities. “The
Hilton is a sleek lodging establishment
that can host your meeting or social
groups and has a phenomenal
restaurant where you can enjoy a meal
or cocktail,” explains Reim-Wentworth.

Cranberry Physical Therapy owner comes home
After 26 years of experience working
in the physical therapy field, longtime
Cranberry Township resident Dale
Reckless decided to take the plunge
and open his own business in the
Township. “I kept getting a consistent
message from neighbors and friends,
‘I wish your office was closer so that I
could come to see you!’” remembers
Reckless. After beginning his career
in 1989 in Rochester, New York, he
moved to Pittsburgh in 1991 to practice
at the Harmarville Rehabilitation
Hospital. He spent more than 22 years
there, working in all areas of physical
rehabilitation, starting an amputee
support group and managing the
outpatient department. In 2014, he
joined MRS Physical Therapy as a facility
director of the Bridgewater location, but
it wasn’t Cranberry. “Living in Cranberry,
raising my family here and going to
church here – it just made sense to
work here, too,” explains Reckless.
So, in October 2015, Reckless opened
Cranberry Physical Therapy at 20820

Deckhouse restaurant. Focusing on
serving the special therapy needs
of community members,
Reckless made an immediate
impact. In addition to working
with patients suffering from
Parkinson’s disease, stroke,
Multiple Sclerosis, vestibular
dizziness, and concussions,
Reckless also caters his
services to amputees and
individuals suffering from
work place injuries. The clinic
features a balance center
to aid in improving balance
related challenges, such
as falls or unsteadiness.
Recently, Reckless created a
Parkinson’s support group,
which meets at the facility
monthly and hosts 20
members.

needs of the Cranberry community.
Though the practice has only
been open for a few months,
Reckless and his efforts have been
warmly welcomed by the community.
Of note, Cranberry Physical Therapy is a
family practice that strives to serve all
members of the community, regardless
of their insurance coverage. “I love to
answer people’s questions and provide
education on the benefits of physical
therapy when I see them out at the
park, the store, at church, or at the kids’
sporting events,” mentions Reckless.
“I appreciate the benefits of working
with people that are your neighbors and
are part of such a great community like
Cranberry.”

Join representatives from the Butler County Community
College on Thursday, May 12 from 6 to 8 pm at the
Cranberry Campus on Executive Drive. Explore the
school’s academic programs, meet faculty and staff and

endeavor, but the Township’s strong economy made the
decision an easy one. Twenty years after opening its first
properties here, Vista knew it needed to expand in Cranberry.
As Reim-Wentworth notes, “Cranberry Township is a dynamic
location with an outstanding community that we love to be a
part of. Being involved in a community that has deep roots and
an impressive outlook is important to us.”

Bits of business…
Upscale Casual restaurant coming
to Cranberry Springs. Plans to add a
6,500 square foot Firebirds Wood Fired
Grill, a North Carolina-based “polished”
casual franchise, to the 4.3 acre Phase
1 of Cranberry Springs’ 90-acre site
were given a thumbs-up by Cranberry’s
Board of Supervisors at its March 3
meeting. Developers had applied for
Conditional Use, Revised Preliminary,
and Revised Final Master Plan approval
for the subdivision. Another 7,500
square foot restaurant is proposed for
a different lot on the site; a separate
hearing will be held on it once an
operator has been identified. Another
part of the Phase 1 plan will involve
an 18,000 square foot multi-tenant
building housing offices, a bakery, a
smaller restaurant, and two retail shops.
Proposed Homewood Suites on solid
ground. Homewood Suites, a unit of the
Hilton hotel group, plans to add a 116room hotel in the Village of Cranberry
Woods to its chain of extended-stay
facilities on a 3.6 acre site at the corner

of Franklin Road and Rt. 228. At its
March 3 meeting, Cranberry’s Board
of Supervisors approved a revised
engineering plan which calls for driving
10-foot soil nails into the site’s retaining
wall to help insure its future structural
integrity. The site rests on a plateau
which was created using a massive
earthen retaining wall. The wall’s face
will be planted with new vegetation and
an irrigation system will be installed
for both erosion control and improved
aesthetics. A lot line revision to merge
two parcels at the hotel site was also
approved.
FedEx Genco logistics unit relocates
to Cranberry Woods. Company leases
building formerly housing Verizon
call center. Genco, one of America’s
largest third-party logistics providers,
is relocating its headquarters from
Blawnox to Cranberry Woods Business
Park. It plans to move 350 employees
to the 100,000-square-foot building,
formerly used as a Verizon Wireless call
center, this September. The company,
which is was acquired by Federal
Express last year, said the move was
needed to accommodate its expansion.
Village of Cranberry Woods plans larger
apartment building. GHB Capital, the
developer of Phase II of the Village of
Cranberry Woods on a 57 acre site
bounded by Franklin Road, Longtree
Way and Cranberry Woods Drive, has
received approval from Cranberry’s
Board of Supervisors for its revised plan
calling for a larger apartment building to
anchor its multipurpose development.
The updated structure will have a larger
footprint, a bigger pool, and an alternate
parking garage access to accommodate
15 additional apartment units. The
revised plan also calls for adding larger
walls than those previously approved
for retaining a nearby embankment.
The development includes a mix of
townhomes, retail, restaurants, hotel
and office space, as well as apartments.
No timeline has been given for
construction of the project.

Cranberry’s economic growth sustained
Cranberry’s emerging role as a regional
economic center has been confirmed
over the past four years, according to
data from an economic outlook study
presented to Cranberry’s Board of
Supervisors by Business & Economic
Development Manager Chelsea Puff
on February 25. Jobs, population,
and property values all continue to
climb. The Township’s population
more than doubled between 1990 and
2014, from 14,816 to 30,149, with
a projected population of 50,000 by
2030. Cranberry’s median household

income exceeded $100,000 last year,
and median home values exceeded
$250,000. Employment also grew
with 23,700 people employed in the
Township during 2015, generating a
very low 3% unemployment rate for the
community – significantly below the
rates for either
Cranberry’s Job
Butler County,
Pennsylvania,
or the United
States as a whole.
Among those
employed in the
Township, 5,400 worked for its five
largest employers, with the rest
spread across a broad cross section
of industries. Cranberry also stands
out as a retail market with more than
$1.5 billion spent there on retail goods
per year. Commercial and residential
construction have
