Hockey NSW President’s Welcome Message
On behalf of the Board of Hockey NSW, welcome the Open Women’s Field
State Championships.
I’d first like to thank our host, Metropolitan South West Hockey Association, for
graciously providing their excellent facilities to us for this event. I’d also like to
thank in advance the large team of volunteers who will be hard at work over
the next three days – your efforts are sincerely appreciated.
The Open Field State Championships is one of the most exciting events on our
hockey calendar, it being the culmination of years of experience and the testing
ground of some of our greatest players. While enjoying the display on field, I’d
also encourage everyone to take the time to socialise and enjoy the unique
community atmosphere for which these events are known.
I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank all the friends, family and
supporters that have the journey to Macarthur. Your dedication to our sport is
one its greatest assets and we hope you enjoy your time at the Open Women
Field State Championships.
Good luck to all the players competing over the course of the weekend.
Yours In Hockey,

PLAY THE WHISTLE
Play the Whistle is an initiative to encourage competing hockey teams, team
officials (off field staff) and spectator groups to play in the true spirit of the
game.
Playing in the true spirit of the game involves, but is not limited to, adhering
to the rules outlined in the codes of behaviour. Teams that demonstrate the
true spirit of hockey will be rewarded with points corresponding to their degree of fair play at the end of each match.
The allocation of points will be decided by the umpires and technical officials
and recorded on the match report. An award will be given to the team with
the highest number of points accumulated at the end of the Championship.
Points for each team are awarded as follows:

The rules of eligibility for each participating team comprise of:
Players who represent their State or Territory at AHL or Under 21 level in the Championship year (from the previous year’s Championships through to the current Championships)
are not eligible to compete at the HA Country Australian Championships. If any athlete
represents another State or Territory at AHL or Under 21 Championships, allocated via the
HA Import Process, the home State or Territory may apply to Hockey Australia for an exemption for the athlete to be selected in the Country team.
Players who reside and play in a Country Association/Regional Team and play in a Country
Association are eligible for the HA Country Australian Championships regardless of
whether their Country Association/Regional team plays in a Capital City Premier Competition. A “Capital City Premier Competition” is defined as the highest level of competition
hosted by a Metro-Association. Any doubt on what constitutes a ‘Capital City Premier
Competition’ is to be referred to the HA Country Committee via the Hockey Australia
Competitions Manager for resolution.
A state association may include up to three (3) individual players that reside in the Country
and play in a Country Competition as well as a Capital City Premier Competition.
In the event of a state team’s withdrawal, a replacement team may be approved by HA for
inclusion.
Australian Defence Force teams compete on the basis that team members shall be eligible
to compete regardless of their place of domicile, membership of any hockey association or
level of competition played, provided that they are bona fide members of the Australian
Defence Force, and have not played in an Australian Hockey League (AHL) team in the
year of selection (from the previous year’s Championships through to the current Championships).
