THE DEAL, 40/50 REUNION - 28/30 MAY 2010
‘The Park House Hotel,’ Shifnal, has been provisionally booked for 30 Double Rooms. To
secure this booking, at what is one of the most popular hotel’s in Shropshire, the hotel has
kindly agreed to a minimum deposit of £10 per person.
Rooms not secured by a deposit could be eventually lost and then individuals would then
need to be accommodated at nearby inferior hotels and pay for any evening meals taken
at the Park House.
The overall cost, which includes Room, Breakfast and Evening Dinner, will be £66.50 per
person, per night - this includes an agreed discount. Normal cost £85 (Dble Room &
breakfast!).
In addition, there will be a small supplement (to be collected nearer the time) to pay for the
following items, which will be receipted and copied onto the Web Page:

On the Friday Night, the Dinner will take place in the hotel communal dining facility,
whereas on the Saturday a Private Function Room (Dobson Room, with its own bar
facility) has been secured at no extra cost. This Function Room can only accommodate 60
in comfort for the evening meal.
Additional guests can be seated after the sit-down meal when the room is extended into
the bar area.

The Park House Hotel has kindly agreed to the following as a result of the special RAF
occasion:
Additional 6 Double Rooms on Friday and Saturday, giving us an extra 12 places (72
places) for the whole Weekend Package.
Also, they have agreed to reserve 5 double rooms for Thursday and Sunday night. The
Price of these rooms will be discounted (which is Bed & Breakfast only), and an evening
meal can be purchased either at the Hotel or in one of the many Shifnal eating
establishments - just a short stagger away!
Added to this, the Hotel have agreed to a total of 80 in the Private Function Room (Dobson
Room) for the sit-down meal on Saturday night - this allows for those who just wish to
attend the meal and function (music, too!) afterwards. However, first priority will go to
those taking the weekend package at the Hotel - hopefully our full allocation of 72 places,
which leaves 8 places for casual meal tickets!
Those ‘just’ attending the meal/function only will be subject to £25 for the meal and small
levy towards those things required to make the whole evening a complete success.
Allowance has also been made for those who just wish to turn up on the night, without
need for accommodation or a meal. Although an overall restriction of 110 places is in place
for the whole evening – elf & safety! Once again, a small levy will be required to meet
costs.

110 IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER PERMITTED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT- THIS WILL BE SHARED
BETWEEN THE DOBSON ROOM AND THE NEARBY BAR AREA.
FINALLY, ALL HOTEL BILLS FOR THE WEEKEND PACKAGE (MINUS DEPOSITS) WILL BE PAID ON
BOOKING OUT.

Plenty of eating places in Shifnal Town for an evening meal, if required - or you may wish
to dine in.
Shifnal Town is a lively place with lots of good pubs, with easy accessto the Motorway and
local attractions.
For those who find it too expensive, there are alternatives near by -e.g M54 Motorway
Sevices Motel, justa mile up the road. Other may wish to just spend the Saturday Night
atthe Park House Hotel, to minimise costs. Many, we hope, will feel it is worthwhile to have
an excellent venue in view of the special occasion.
The intended trip (and parade) to Cosford will in anycase take place on Sunday - along
with a visit to the Cold War Museum, which is brilliant.

Air Commodore Green joined the Royal Air Force in 1977. After his first tour as the Junior
Engineering Officer on 41(F) Squadron operating Jaguars at RAF Coltishall, posts at RAF
Wattisham, RAF Mount Pleasant and AAEE Boscombe Down followed, all with an armament
flavour. Following promotion to squadron leader in 1988, he went to Headquarters Strike
Command as the Support Authority for Armament Role Equipment. After the First Gulf War, he
took up the post of Senior Engineering Officer on No 23 Squadron, then flying the Tornado F3,
at RAF Leeming. Leaving towards the end of 1993, he went to the Ministry of Defence in
London to join the Eurofighter Integrated Logistic Support team.
The tour was cut short after 18 months when he was selected for advanced staff training at the RAF Staff College at
Bracknell. At the end of 1995, he returned to London as the Integrated Logistic Support Manager for the Future
Offensive Air System. Again, he was short-toured from London, returning to Bracknell as directing staff on promotion to
wing commander in the middle of 1996. As well as seeing off the last RAF Advanced Staff Course, he was one of the
directing staff on the last Joint Services Defence College course at Greenwich, before returning to Bracknell to help run
the first fully joint and combined Advanced Command and Staff Course. At the end of July 1998, he returned to RAF
Leeming to take command of Engineering and Supply Wing, primarily responsible for supporting 2 Tornado F3
squadrons and a contractor-maintained Hawk squadron. He left Leeming in August 2000 to take up the appointment of
Engineering Policy Airworthiness, responsible for the direction, structure, regulation and sponsorship of aviation safety
policy and related engineering issues across Equipment Support (Air).
He took up the post of Assistant Director Development in the Equipment Capability Secretariat on promotion to group
captain at the end of April 2002. Here he was responsible for supporting the Equipment Capability Customer's corporate
development, their Change & Development programme; leading on Smart Acquisition policy and process; and the
delivery of appropriate training and tools. He returned to Strike Command at High Wycombe in March 2005 as Group
Captain Support in Headquarters 1 Group. As such, he commanded the Group logistic support office for all of the Royal
Air Force’s fast-jet aircraft fleets.
The main themes he progressed were the Defence Logistics Transformation Programme within 1 Group, the formation
of Joint Force Harrier and the logistics planning for the introduction to service of Typhoon. He was a member on the
Royal College of Defence Studies 2007 course, following which he was appointed to a study team directed by the Vice
Chief of Defence Staff and Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Health) to take forward the Defence Medical Services TopStructures Next-Steps work.
He was promoted to Air Commodore in March 2009 on taking up his current appointment as Commandant of the
Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering. He is supported at Cosford by his partner Jane. They occasionally get
away to their home by the River Thames near Reading where they have a modest river cruiser for relaxation.
