He further commended Zimbabwean companies for adapting their products, which included tractor-drawn farming implements, agricultural inputs and irrigation equipment, to the specific needs of small-scale farmers. According to Trade Map, Zambia imported agricultural equipment worth US$15.3 million in 2015, with the main supplying markets being South Africa (45%), Brazil (9%) and China (8%). However, Zimbabwe’s contribution was 3% and this presents a huge potential for local companies to increase exports to Zambia as they enjoy distance advantage over other competitors. Zimbabwean companies, who were facilitated by ZimTrade to participate at the Expo, expressed optimism on prospects of making in-roads in the Zambian market. Arthur Garden Engineering Marketing Manager, Mr. Itayi Kureya, commended ZimTrade for the role it is playing in assisting local companies to promote their products through participation in specialised exhibitions. Our participation at this event is to show the world that we still have the capacity to produce quality leather, textile and clothing products that can compete on the global market.“ Global imports of clothing and textile products grew from US$895 billionin 2012 to U$987 billionin 2014. ZimTrade will facilitate the participation of Zimbabwean companies in this year’s Source Africa - the African Textile, Clothing and Footwear Trade Event. The fair will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from 7-9 June 2016. The participation is aimed at exposing local clothing, textile and leather products to regional and international buyers as well as to generate export orders. Source Africa is the largest trade exhibition in Africa for the clothing, textile, footwear and fashion accessory industries. The event brings together suppliers, buyers, manufacturers and service providers in one major integrated event. Zimbabwe’s exports of cothing to South Africa have been on an upward trend, having increased by 45.8% from 2012 to 2014. This partnership will positively contribute towards addressing challenges that are prevalent within the horticultural value chain,” said the ZimTrade Chairman, Mr. Lance Jena. The expected results from this intervention include cost effective production methods, increased yields, quality produce for the export market as well as adaptation of market systems and supply chains in line with international market developments. and vegetables such as bananas, avocadoes, potatoes and butternuts. Namibia is arid country, with unsuitable conditions to grow fresh produce. The country’s import bill of fresh produce, on average from 2010 to 2015, is about $60 million per annum, as highlighted in the infographic. Namibia’s Fresh Produce Imports (2010-2014) “There is realisation in Zimbabwe that the horticulture sector is a low hanging fruit, which, with such interventions, can be turned around for recovery and sustainable export growth”, said the ZimTrade Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Sithembile Priscilla Pilime Ms. Pilime also urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the services of the PUM Experts in order to grow their agro businesses. As part of efforts to enhance productivity and export competitiveness in horticultural sector, stakeholders recently met in Harare to map the way forward for the sector under the EU-funded Trade and Private Sector Development Programme (TPSDP). On a related development Zimbabwe and Namibia have signed an agreement of intent, which could see Zimbabwe exporting fruits and vegetables to Namibia. Currently, ZimTrade is coordinating the participation of small holder farmers to supply the Namibian market with fruits South Africa is the major supplier of fresh produce to Namibia, with Zimbabwe suppling negligible quantities (only $1000 worth of fresh produce was supplied in 2014. This, therefore, presents opportunities to export fresh produce to that country. Namibia is a middle income market with a GDP per capita of US$5 467. In addition, the country has a booming tourism market and provides access to the lucrative southern Angola market. Trade between Zimbabwe and Namibia is governed by the SADC Trade Protocol and the Zimbabwe-Namibia Bilateral Trade Agreement, which offer preferential treatment of qualifying products into each other’s market. 3 TradeFairs & Exhibitions INTERNATIONAL AFRICA ANGOLA SOUTH AFRICA BELGIUM International Fair of Luanda (FILDA), Luanda 19-24 July 2016 Tel: +244 926 405 970 Fax: +244 222 862 161 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.fil-angola.co.ao Source Africa, Cape Town 7 – 9 June 2016 Tel: +27 21 790 5849 Fax: +27 21 790 0037 E-mail: [email protected]; [email protected] Website: http://www.sourcefrica.co.za BOTSWANA Africa’s Big Seven, Johannesburg 19- 21 June 2016 Tel: +27 11 7837250 Fax: +27 11 7837269 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.exhibition.com INTRAFOOD, Kortrijk (International Food Ingredients Exhibitions) 21-22 September 2016 Tel: 32 (0) 56241111 Fax: 32 (0) 56 217930 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.kortrijkxpo.be Global Expo Botswana, Gaborone 23-26 November 2016 Tel: +267 318 1931 Fax: +267 317 0423 Email: [email protected] Website: www.globalexpo.co.bw TANZANIA DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair 28 June - 8 July 2016 Tel: 255 22 285 0238 Fax: 255 22 285 0239 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.tptanzania.com DRC Mining Week, Lubumbashi 8-9 June 2016 Tel: +27 21 7003500/13/16/36 Fax: +27 21 7003501 Email: [email protected] Website: www.spintelligent.com ZAMBIA MOZAMBIQUE Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM) 29 August - 4 September 2016 Tel: +258 1 427 151 Fax: +258 1 427 129 Email: [email protected] Website: www.facimfair.com NAMIBIA NIGERIA Nigeria Agrofood, Lagos (Agricultural Food, Technology Exhibition) Nigeria Fashionexpo, Lagos (Textiles and Shoes Exhibition) Nigeria Decorexpo, Lagos (Furniture and Home Show) Nigeria Bhexpo, Lagos (Beauty, Cosmetics and Hygiene) 08-10 June 2016 Tel: +234 805 333 3333 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.the-landmark-village.com Get In Touch Zambia International Trade Fair, Ndola 29 June - 5 July 2016 Tel: +260 212 651 514 Email: [email protected]; [email protected] Website: www.zitf.org.zm ZIMBABWE Mine Entra, Bulawayo 20-22 July 2016 Tel: +263 9 884 911 Fax: + 263 9 884911 E-mail: [email protected] coordinator@zitf. co.zw Website: www.zitf.net Ongwendiva Annual Trade Fair, Ongwendiva 26 August - 3 September 2016 Tel: +26465230191 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.ongwetradefair.na 4 April, 2016 Harare Agricultural and Commercial Show 22-27 August 2016 Tel: +263 4 780963-66 Fax: +263 4 780967 E-mail: [email protected] Website: www.exhibitionpark.co.zw HEAD OFFICE 904 Premium Close Mount Pleasant Business Park P.
