Join us at Masak Masak 2015, featuring familiar playgrounds and interactive installations by Singaporean and international artists, including Jeremy Hiah, Mademoiselle Maurice and Crystal Wagner. Plus, don’t miss the many engaging performances and family-oriented activities! Suitable for children aged 3 to 7. 2 / Two 3 / Three I love it when you guide me down the slide. FRONT LAWN LEVEL 1 ROTUNDA Available for play every Sat & Sun, 10am to 12pm & 4pm to 6pm by Mademoiselle Maurice (France) Playgrounds on the Lawn These massive inflatable playgrounds are a modern take on the familiar mosaic playgrounds found in Singapore’s heartland neighbourhoods during the 1970s and 80s. Although only a few of these remain today, they endure in the fond memories of those who grew up in that era. Share these treasured memories with your child here! Also featuring Ties-that-bind by Pamela Lee (SG/UK) and 木头 MÙTÓU by Little Ong, fFurious (SG) as part of the 30 LifeStories – Remembering Parks project. Spectrum of Paper Step into a rainbow wonderland at the Rotunda and immerse yourselves in a kaleidoscope of colourful, suspended origami boats and planes! Spectrum of Paper continues in the Salon. 4 / Four 5 / Five I love it when you fold your favourite origami for me. I love it tell me my favourite story with puppets. when you LEVEL 1 SALON LEVEL 1 SALON by Mademoiselle Maurice (France) by Jeremy Hiah (Singapore) Spectrum of Paper Queen of the Forest The dazzling colours continue in the Salon with more intricate origami creations by Mademoiselle Maurice. Be amazed by this spectacular display of origami flowers and animals, big and small! Be enthralled by Jeremy Hiah’s re-creation of an enchanting tale of nature via an installation of puppets in Queen of the Forest. There will also be special performances by the artist every weekend. This installation is in response to an illustration from Jeanette Aw’s book, Sol’s World: Somebody to Love. LEVEL 1 SALON Simple Pleasures in Life & Life’s Best Journey is with The One You Love by Jeanette Aw (Singapore) Colour in the drawings and bring them to life with your kids at Simple Pleasures in Life and guide them as they etch out and discover what it means to be truly happy at Life’s Best Journey is with The One You Love. Jeanette Aw’s illustrated book, Sol’s World: Somebody to Love, is available for sale at $19 each at the Museum Label shop located at Level 1. I love it plant our favourite flower and watch it bloom. when we LEVEL 1 CONCOURSE Dancing Solar Flowers by Alexandre Dang (France) Alexandre Dang blends renewable energy with art, breathing life into a field of flowers and transforming it into a beautiful, hypnotic piece of work. Poetic and playful, this installation inspires children to question our current use of energy, and to think about sustainable energy sources for the future. 8 / Eight 9 / Nine I love it when we create games together. LEVEL 1 CONCOURSE BASEMENT CANYON by School of the Arts (Singapore) by Koeh Sia Yong (Singapore) & Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) Garden Games Students from the School of the Arts (SOTA) recreate nostalgic games with a modern twist! Join your kids as they say Hello, Hello? with tin-can phones and test your coordination and teamwork in Can or Not? as you compete to throw hoops over the most number of cans. Be prepared for lots of family fun as you try your hand at Flag Attack! and see who is crowned the champion of larger-than-life eraser-flipping. Plus, take on the Tilt! and manoeuvre a ball through a vertical maze! Memory Stations Take a walk down memory lane with your child and explore the intricate art of woodblock printing! Artist Koeh Sia Yong used woodblock prints to reflect Singapore’s changing geographical and social landscapes in the 1950s and 60s. In this collaboration, Koeh mentors students from his alma mater, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, creating prints that captures moving stories of childhood memories and family life. 10 / Ten 11 / Eleven I love it when we explore nature. BASEMENT CANYON LEVEL 3 PERFORM AT PLAY@NMS by Crystal Wagner (U.S.A.) by NUS Industrial Design (Singapore) Wanderlust Adventures await in this enchanting forest that recreates earth’s many glorious landscapes. Together with your young ones, immerse yourself in this fantastical forest world created from simple daily materials. Explore narrow thicket passageways and crawl under overhanging branches – all within the museum! Luma-City Let your kids’ imaginations run wild in this immersive space filled with larger-than-life toy vehicles! Be inspired by history and join us for an afternoon of creative expression through painting and drawing with your child or grandchild.
