WHY SHOULD I
STAY AT THE
SCDL HOST HOTEL?
As meeting attendees
increasingly book rooms
at hotels other than the
meeting hotel or outside the
room block, associations
have to pay hotels large
penalties. In order to provide
great rates to attendees and
keep the costs of the meeting down, SCDL must agree
to fulfill a certain number
of sleeping room nights at
the host hotel
during the meeting dates.
If an association is not able
to fill a high percentage of
these contracted sleeping
rooms, special attrition
charges for rooms not filled
become the financial responsibility of the organization.
HOW DOES THIS
AFFECT ME AS
AN ATTENDEE?
When an organization
takes up all of the hotel
meeting space and a
majority of sleeping rooms,
they usually do not pay
for meeting space or will
receive a reduced fee.
However, if more meeting
attendees choose to stay
at alternative hotels or
book rooms at rates that
are outside the block, this
will force SCDL to book
less sleeping rooms while
utilizing the same amount
of meeting space. The result
increases the costs of
operating the event. We
appreciate your help!

LEADERSHIP ROUNDTABLE FOR OWNERS/MANAGERS
GLOBAL TRENDS IN THE DENTAL INDUSTRY
Bob Savage (moderator) & panel
Thomas Leonardi
FRIDAY 1:00 PM - 3:45 PM | Location: Henry Oliver Room
FRIDAY 12:00 PM - 12:50 PM | Location: Swanton Amphitheatre
A manufacturer’s view of the changing dental prosthetics market complexion and the potential implications for lab owners. For instance, ask yourself, what are these trends and how do they affect my lab?
Areas for consideration will include: Fixed and Removable market segments outlook; insourcing technology vs. partnering and outsourcing; leveraging digital to increase lab productivity; material innovations and how they may
change both dental office and lab workflows.
Thomas Leonardi is Corporate Vice President for the Global Prosthetics Business for DENTSPLY International. His

Scanning Process
Scanning
YOU MUST SCAN YOUR ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION FORMS TO RECEIVE CREDITS!
YOU MUST HAVE A CDT NUMBER ON YOUR BADGE FOR CREDITS TO BE APPLIED.
For our dental technicians that are CDTs or RGs under the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology, SCDL
continues to embrace digital scanning technology for recording and submitting your credits. This process eliminates the bubble
sheets and opens doors for a more timely posting of your credits. You may scan at your leisure...all at once, daily, or as desired.
In order to receive credit for a seminar and/or hands-on expo, each attendee will need to collect an attendee verification certificate, complete the form by entering the course number, and make his or her way to a conveniently-located scanning station. Both
the name badge and certificate must then be scanned to be entered into a database, in which will later be sent to NBC.

It’s no secret the dental laboratory industry is going through rapid changes year after year. It gets difficult to keep up and
be the expert on all of the new products, services, etc. Come join us as we dig into the theme of the 2016 meeting, Leadership...
Not Luck – Don’t Leave Your Lab to Chance! This NEW and exciting leadership education concept is designed specifically with
laboratory owners and managers in mind as we often learn valuable lessons from our peers!
Attendees will be broken down into six groups. Six dental laboratory owners/managers from varying size laboratories and
geographic locations will be at tables throughout the room. The program will feature a true round-robin format. Attendees will
spend approximately 15 minutes per table discussing topics relevant to management and operational leadership in the dental
lab. Each table will address the same topics so you can get six possibly different views on these topics. Attendees may also
bring up topics of their own as time permits. At the end of the roundtable, a wrap-up will be done so all may benefit from things
that may have been discussed at one table, but perhaps not with all of the groups. SCDL board members and Diamond Sponsor representatives will be on hand and may contribute to the discussions as well, so bring those questions and let’s brainstorm
for success!

A measurable systematized approach to marketing, client retention, pricing, and sales, will help your
lab become less stressful and more profitable. A vision of how and who we want to function with and for
as a dental lab sets the stage for this approach. We can’t track everything, but we can monitor the right things to stay on
course for our financial and behavioral health. By managing the right things, Conversion, Penetration and Retention (CPR),
you can create a preferred and profitable future for your dental lab.
Learning Objectives:
• Present a vision driven, customer equity model for CPR
• Discuss customer retention drivers and metrics
• Explore client Penetration, sales skills and how to measure them
• Cover how to Convert more clients to become customers

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
Rod Eckard
SATURDAY 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM | Location: Henry Oliver Room
A critical role for managers is the ability to manage conflicts between associates, with subordinates
or peers. Conflict is a natural part of business and of life. The natural give and take between people is a
healthy way to create “constructive discontent” and discover new approaches to challenges. Problems
arise in the ways that you deal with these conflicts. Using the right approaches, you can deal with conflicts in effective
ways that resolve the issues while maintaining positive relationships. This starts with clearly understanding the issues
and the personalities involved. In this module, you will explore win-win strategies to manage conflict in your organization.

A CRYSTAL BALL VIEW INTO DIGITAL
DENTURE WORKFLOW
Daniel Ammon, Ph.D
FRIDAY 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM | Location: Mary Gay Room C-D
Dentures, a custom medical device skillfully crafted or manufactured by today’s CDT experts, will
be at the forefront of that transformation. As we enter the digital age of denture fabrication, considerations of the digital work flow, our customers, and the patient should be considered. This presentation will be a review
of traditional manufacturing, subtractive CAD/CAM manufacturing, and additive 3D printing manufacturing of dentures
and the possible requirements associated with the digital workflows. Additive manufacturing applications are undergoing
tremendous growth and are expected to transform dentistry over the coming decade; however, it should be noted that
despite recent advancements in 3D printing, there remains challenges with the digital workflow: optics, software design,
hardware, and materials. Ultimately, the digital workflow should translate into straight forward training, improved customer
experience, and adoption.
Daniel Ammon, Ph.D is the Global Vice President of Research and Development for the Prosthetics Strategic Business Unit at Dentsply International. Dan has a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a focus in Surface Science. He has 18 years of
experience working at Bausch & Lomb in the areas of Polymers, Disinfecting Solutions, Drug Delivery and Implantable
Ophthalmic Devices. For the last 6 years, Dan held various R&D leadership roles at DENTSPLY’s Endodontic and Prosthetic Businesses. Throughout his career, he has accomplished 10 peer reviewed papers, launched over 40 biomedical
devices, and co-authored nearly 75 patent and patent applications.

NEW RESTORATIVE OPTIONS IN IMPLANT DENTISTRY
USING THE LATEST DIGITAL WORKFLOW
Jason Rogers
SATURDAY 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM | Location: Mary Gay Room C-D
Implant dentistry is one of the fastest growing business segments of the lab industry and there are many
restorative options and workflows available. More clinicians are leveraging guided surgery to reduce the treatment cycle, increase accuracy of implant placement, and develop a restorative protocol while putting the dental lab back into the
focal point of procedural communication. Zahn will assist in navigating all of these procedural options by showing how to increase
your profitability on your implant cases and how to add additional services to your current workflow to provide more sellable products to your customer. You will learn how Zahn Dental’s implant solutions address all of your implant needs by demonstrating how
partnering with Zahn gives you access to the 360imagining guided surgery solution, a comprehensive stock abutment system and
a state of the art milling center. Zahn Dental implant portfolio allows you to move toward procedural revenue capture rather than
individual product revenue capture, which enables you to own the entire case from inception to completion.
Jason Rogers studied at the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry and has been in the industry for over 10 years. As a marketing manager for a leading implant company, he was involved in product development for implant products, custom abutment
manufacturing, CAD software design, and guided surgery solutions. With a deep understanding of the complete treatment workflow
from surgical to restorative procedures, he has presented on CAD/CAM technology, dental materials, and implant surgical procedures to laboratories and clinicians across the world.

from the lab’s employees. This presentation will focus on the employee’s role in ensuring the production of a quality dental
laboratory product.
