RI’s ninth annual Diversity for Success Seminar and Diversity Expo will provide an in-depth look at
diversity and inclusion initiatives in both the law firm and corporate legal environments. Panelists will
engage attendees with spirited dialogue regarding strides that have been made, the challenges to creating a
more inclusive profession, and opportunities for individual and organizational growth. Hear creative strategies

Andrea M. Alonso is a managing partner at Morris Duffy
Alonso & Faley in New York City. She is a member of DRI, the
Defense Association of New York, the Puerto Rican Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association. She is fluent in Spanish.

Domenick C. DiCicco, Jr., is the global head of litigation
management at AIG in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Previously, he
was executive director of North American Insurance Services
at Xchanging. Throughout his career, he has been responsible for the creation and execution of strategies that assure
the most efficient delivery of legal services for Fortune
500 companies.
Janice P. Brown is the owner and founder of Brown Law
Group, a leading Southern California litigation firm. She
also founded Beyond Law, a company that helps lawyers
reach their full potential—developmentally, professionally, and financially—in the areas of business development
and networking.
Monica A. Frois, a shareholder in Baker Donelson Bearman
Caldwell & Berkowitz PC’s New Orleans office, concentrates
on health care matters, complex litigation, insurance coverage, and professional responsibility litigation. Ms. Frois represents health care systems, physicians, and long-term care
institutions on operational, compliance, and transactional
issues. She is listed in Best Lawyers in America.

Marcus V. Brown is the executive vice president and general counsel for Entergy Corporation in New Orleans. He is
responsible for all legal, ethics, and compliance matters
affecting Entergy Corporation and its subsidiaries, including providing counsel to the chair and chief executive officer,
board of directors, and senior management.
Gary M. Carter serves as senior counsel in the litigation section of the legal department of Entergy Corporation in
New Orleans. He is a member of its diversity committee and
co-leader of the department’s Pro Bono Initiative. Previously,
he worked for a New Orleans firm, specializing in automotive and heavy machinery product liability litigation.
Joan M. Haratani, a partner in Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP’s
litigation practice in San Francisco, has served as co-lead
counsel on some of the largest mass tort litigations in the
nation. She has received numerous awards for her service
on behalf of women and minority practitioners. She was the
first female of color to serve as president of the Bar Association of San Francisco.
Pamela W. Carter, founder of Carter Law Group LLC in
New Orleans, focuses on personal injury litigation, with an
emphasis on trucking and transportation, premises liability, insurance defense, and product liability. She also litigates
wrongful death, slip and fall, lead paint, and food contamination matters. She is the chair of DRI’s Diversity Committee.
Franz Hardy, a partner at Gordon & Rees LLP in Denver,
focuses on commercial and insurance litigation. He is active
in various diversity and inclusiveness efforts, including roles
as chair of his firm’s diversity committee, co-chair of the ABA
Section of Litigation Diversity and Inclusiveness Committee,
and chair of the University of Colorado Law School Alumni
Board Diversity Committee.
Preston J. Castille, Jr., is a partner and executive committee
member at Taylor Porter Brooks & Phillips LLP in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. In 2009, he was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme
Court as Judge Pro Tempore. Mr. Castille has taught at LSU Law
School and Southern University Law School. Mr. Castille is a past
president of the Baton Rouge Bar Association.
Linda M. Lawson, managing partner of the Los Angeles
office of Meserve Mumper & Hughes LLP, represents insurance companies in matters relating to life, health and
disability coverage, and ERISA. She also represents management in employment-related litigation involving wrongful
termination, sexual harassment, and employment discrimination. Ms. Lawson is a member of DRI’s Law Institute.
Alison R. Christian is an Arizona insurance bad-faith and
coverage attorney, who has been practicing with Christian
Dichter & Sluga PC in Phoenix since 2007. She is a co-founder
of the “Ladder Down” business development program for
women lawyers and serves on the Arizona Association of
Defense Counsel Board of Directors.
Tanya M. Lawson, a partner at Sedgwick LLP in its Fort Lauderdale, Florida, office, defends clients in product liability,
toxic tort, commercial, and employment litigation matters.
She recently served as defense coordinating counsel for silica litigation pending in Broward County, Florida. She is a
Diversity Expo co-chair for this seminar.
Linda Perez Clark, a partner with Kean Miller LLP in Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, practices in the business and corporate
group, representing clients in entity formation and governance, asset, stock acquisitions and sales, and in preparing and negotiating commercial contracts. She founded

Arin N. Reeves, Ph.D., is president of the research and consulting firm Nextions LLC in Chicago, where she consults and
leads research studies on all aspects of leadership and inclusion. She practiced law before transitioning to leadership and
inclusion. Dr. Reeves wrote the bestselling book, The Next IQ:
The Next Level of Intelligence for 21st Century Leaders.

Melissa Lin, a partner at Righi Law Group in Phoenix, represents individuals, contractors, businesses, and municipalities in
matters relating to general liability, construction defects, personal injury, and product liability. She is an AV-rated litigation
attorney and was named a Southwest Super Lawyers Rising
Star. Ms. Lin is a Diversity Expo co-chair for this seminar.
Grace E. Speights is a partner in Morgan Lewis & Bockius
LLP’s labor and employment law practice and managing
partner of its Washington, D.C., office. She focuses on counseling and defending clients in connection with employment
discrimination claims, primarily involving class claims, and
on counseling clients regarding diversity best practices.
Hinton J. Lucas, Jr., former vice president and assistant general counsel for DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware, was responsible for all legal aspects pertaining to labor, employment,
benefits, sourcing and logistics, real estate, immigration, and
corporate contributions, plus all corresponding litigation. He
recently retired after more than 40 years of service.
Alka Srivastava is an attorney in the Raleigh, North Carolina, office of Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP. She represents
individuals and businesses in tort litigation, commercial litigation, and insurance coverage matters. Ms. Srivastava is a
membership co-chair for DRI’s Diversity Committee.
Caren Ulrich Stacy, principal of Lawyer Development Strategies LLC in Boulder, Colorado, has over 20 years of experience in lawyer recruitment, development, and diversity. In
addition to consulting with law firms on talent management
issues, she directs the OnRamp Fellowship for women lawyers re-entering the profession.
Rosevelie Márquez Morales is a partner at Harris Beach PLLC
in New York City, and co-chair of its diversity council. Her
complex litigation practice includes commercial, pharmaceutical, medical malpractice, insurance, product liability,
premises and general liability claims, e-discovery, and bankruptcy. She is a vice chair of DRI’s Diversity Committee.
Jean-Marie Sylla, Jr., managing partner at Taylor Sylla &
Agin LLP’s Washington, D.C., office, specializes in commercial
and insurance litigation, including general and excess liability, ERISA, health, disability, property and casualty liability,
and construction. He has also defended insurance companies against first-party claims, and drafted numerous coverage opinions providing clients with coverage analysis.
Mark R. Phillips, Ph.D., is a senior trial consultant and vice
president in the Beverly Hills, California, office of Trial
Partners Inc. His expertise includes jury decision making,
jury selection, and witness preparation. He conducts mock
trials, focus groups, post-trial juror interviews, and community surveys. He has published research on jurors’ perceptions of ethnic minority attorneys.
Marianne M. Trost is the founder of the Women Lawyers Coach
LLC in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Her career spans 20 years of
working exclusively with attorneys to guide, teach, and inspire
them to grow their own books of business. She is a nationally
recognized and award-winning coach, trainer, and speaker.
Debra E. Pole, a partner at Sidley Austin LLP in Los Angeles, is
a member of its diversity committee and the practice group
leader for the firm’s product liability and mass torts practice.
Ms. Pole is a seasoned trial attorney with experience in multidistrict litigation, class actions, and product liability litigation.
Kirk D. Willis, managing partner of the Willis Law Group
PLLC, a Dallas-based legal defense firm, concentrates primarily on commercial litigation and insurance defense. He
has tried more than 100 trials to verdict. Mr. Willis is the
author of Corporate Justice: Fight Back in the Court Room
and Save Your Company.
Miguel Alexander Pozo is a brand lawyer and litigation partner at Lowenstein Sandler LLP in Roseland, New Jersey,
where he represents Fortune 500 companies in business litigation matters. He is particularly experienced in representing luxury goods manufacturers. He was named to Hispanic
Business’ 2013 List of “50 Most Influential Hispanics” in
the country.
Nicole M. Young, an in-house litigation attorney with
Ingersoll Rand in Davidson, North Carolina, focuses on general tort, product liability, and asbestos litigation. Previously,
she was an associate at a Chicago firm. She is a member
of DRI, the State Bar of Illinois, and the Bar of the Supreme
Court of the United States.

Todd S. Manuel is senior counsel with Entergy Corporation
in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is a member of the company’s
litigation team and represents its interests in casualty and
commercial matters. Previously, he was a partner in one of
Baton Rouge’s oldest law firms. He is the program chair for
this seminar.

Diversity for Success Seminar to take advantage of the
group rate of $299 Single/Double. The hotel block is limited and rooms and rates are available on a first-come, firstserved basis. You must make reservations by May 14, 2014, to
be eligible for the group rate. Requests for reservations made
after May 14 are subject to room and rate availability.
This seminar has been approved for MCLE credit by the State
Bar of California in the amount of 6.75 hours. Accreditation
has been requested from every state with mandatory continuing legal education (CLE) requirements. Certificates of
attendance will be provided to each attendee. Attendees are
responsible for obtaining CLE credits from their respective
states. Application has been made for continuing education
for claims adjusters. Credit availability and requirements
vary from state to state; please check the DRI website at
dri.org for the latest information for your state.

IN-HOUSE COUNSEL
In-house counsel are eligible for free registration to DRI
seminars. In-house counsel are defined as licensed attorneys, who are employed exclusively by a corporation or
other private sector organization for the purpose of providing legal representation and counsel only to that corporation, its affiliates and subsidiaries. To qualify for free
registration, the individual must also be a DRI member
and a member of DRI’s Corporate Counsel Committee.

To attend the Diversity Expo, you must register for the seminar (see registration form), you must be a DRI member, and
you need to return the interview application to DRI by
May 6, 2014. See page 8 for information on the interview
application. Interviews are not guaranteed. The registration
fee is $595. The registration fee includes course materials,
continental breakfasts, luncheon on Thursday, refreshment
breaks, and networking receptions. If you wish to have your
name appear on the registration list distributed at the
conference and receive the course materials in advance,
DRI must receive your registration by May 23, 2014 (please
allow 10 days for processing). Registrations received after
May 23, 2014, will be processed on-site.
CLAIMS EXECUTIVES
Any member of DRI employed as a claims professional
by a corporation or insurance company, who spends a
substantial portion of his or her professional time hiring or supervising outside counsel in the representation
of business, insurance companies or their insureds, associations or governmental entities in civil litigation, will

REFUND POLICY
The registration fee is fully refundable for cancellations
received on or before May 23, 2014. Cancellations received
after May 23 and on or before May 30, 2014, will receive
a refund, less a $100 processing fee. Cancellations made
after May 30 will not receive a refund, but the course materials on CD-ROM and a $100 certificate good for any DRI
seminar within the next 12 months will be issued. All cancellations and requests for refunds must be made in writing. Fax (312.795.0747) or email ([email protected]) to DRI’s
Accounting Department. All refunds will be mailed within
four weeks after the date of the conference. Substitutions
may be made at any time without charge and must be submitted in writing.
