MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
During 2015, the Wildlife in Need Center (WINC) again distinguished itself
as one of the most recognized wildlife rehabilitation centers in Wisconsin—
and continued to provide an exceptional mobile wildlife education program.
Our wildlife education program and experienced staff continue to educate a
far-reaching audience that truly sets us apart from any wildlife rehabilitation
facility in southeastern Wisconsin.
WINC remains proud of its wildlife rehabilitation facility in Wisconsin,
admitting all species of southeastern Wisconsin wildlife (with the exception
of skunks prohibited by the DNR). This service is only possible because of
WINC’s dedicated staff, volunteers and its 6,000 square foot facility that
answers the needs of our community. Our facility and staff provide both
wildlife medical care and education on-site; accommodating over 7,000
visitors a year. During 2015, WINC entered its fifth year in the partnership
with the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha on its 92-acre property.
Our wildlife rehabilitation care, delivered daily to our patients and
ambassadors, continues to handle more complex treatments. WINC staff
and volunteers are able to meet the demand with three experienced
veterinarians whom provide the essential veterinary care, each are experts/
board certified in the fields of wildlife, avian and eye care; and who charge
WINC a reduced rate and remain positioned to expand WINC's care.
To meet the demand for wildlife rehabilitation, WINC again offered a
previous intern a seasonal staff position in animal care. Our year-round staff
now consists of two full-time office staff, a part-time bookkeeper, a full-time
education coordinator, two full-time and one part-time wildlife rehabilitators.
WINC’s staff holds over 42 years of experience as wildlife rehabilitators.
In addition, our volunteer program continues to support the mission with
dedicated and new volunteers, while preserving a very high retention rate.
The ongoing partnership and dedication of our staff and volunteers remains
truly admirable as they provide excellent care to wildlife.
We strive to improve and impact our care to patients each day. This is only
possible due to our remarkable team of volunteers and staff! Qualified staff,
dedicated volunteers, generous donors and foundations—all committed
to our mission, empowering WINC to provide the best possible care and
education for Wisconsin wildlife.

Vision Statement
To provide wildlife
rehabilitation to Wisconsin
wildlife with the intent
to release back to their
native habitat, conduct
research designed to further
the positive impact of
rehabilitation, and provide
quality community education
programs and services.
To become a nationally recognized
Wildlife Rehabilitation Center that
serves as a hub for other satellite
facilities and is financially stable. WINC
will work in collaboration with the
University of Wisconsin-Waukesha and
the University of Wisconsin Colleges
and Extensions to be identified as the
number one resource in the community
that promotes an ethic of care and
respect for the natural world.

communities with questions regarding Wisconsin

program utilizing 12-year olds and older

released 51 animals total!

Education Program:
“Several girls checked out the book Connecting with Wisconsin Wildlife
to learn more about animals they would eventually be helping, and a few
even came to the Holiday Meet and Greet to get a head start on meeting
the animals up close and personal!
We held our Wrap Up presentation in April, and think there were at least
200 girls and their families in attendance. Alex Lemmer and the animal
ambassadors put on a wonderful presentation so that even the youngest
kindergarten girls in the audience were able to stay engaged during the
hour long program! We all learned so much about natural wildlife, and
how we can do our part to keep the animals out of harm’s way. We are
excited that your organization has become a Community Event Provider
for Girl Scouts, and that you are offering educational programs for troops.
We are pleased to hear our donations make a positive impact on your
organization and we are hoping that girls keep The Wildlife in Need

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
WINC Mission Growth Testimonial:
“While WINC is always seen its share of orphan
animals, in the last number of years, WINC is
caring for more and more injured animals, and the
injuries that are being treated are more and more
complex. As this trend continues, the organization
is increasingly being recognized, by the rehab
community as well as state and local wildlife
officials for its expertise.
Another significant advance for WINC has been to
expand its outreach programs from 50–60 a year 13
years ago to over 125 education programs a year.
Today, the work that WINC does is much better
known in the community, and a huge part of this
expanded awareness was due to the relocation of
the facility to the UW-Waukesha Field Station in
Waterville.
Of course without the dedication of the people
involved in WINC, none of this is possible. WINC
has always been blessed with dedicated staff,
working long hours and not getting paid nearly
what they should. Our current staff is no exception,
their talent and compassion are humbling. But I
don’t think anyone would disagree that the most
important people to the organization are the
volunteers. WINC has always relied on volunteers
to meet the need of our rehab work. Without them
thousands of orphaned animals a year would not
survive. These volunteers are an essential part of
WINC, without their help WINC could not operate
as it does.
It has been my honor and privilege to have been
involved with such an organization, at virtually
every level from volunteer to donor. There are
so many people who have had a hand in the
achievements of WINC. To all of the people who
have had a hand in the achievements of WINC,
WINC stands as a legacy that we all are to be
proud of…
