Biogen Honors Security
Partnership with G4S
I hope you are all having a great summer and as usual thank you
for your efforts and performance. Although the competition is
considerable, we continue to renew customer contracts and win
new ones!
Performance. Appearance. Communications. Safety (PACS). For
G4S Officers, these four aspects of your job are likely to be the
most critical for a variety of reasons. The first three are for you, me
and the customer. The last one, safety, is for you, your kids, your
significant other, your parents and the list goes on.... We want you
to go home at the end of your shift exactly the way you came in for
your shift!
Now, I know we all have bad days. We often deal with people in
challenging environments, continually tell people “no,” or they “can’t
do something.” I know it’s difficult. But when you accomplish these
tasks with style, substance and showcase your training – you can
make it a positive experience and possibly a game-changer.
Customers and clients will notice you and your actions can become
the building blocks for recognition, opportunity and career
advancement.

Boston, MA: Biogen, a global biotechnology company, is honoring G4S
for the work performed in the wake of an unfolding security incident that
led to a homicide investigation.
On April 4, as a member of the G4S security team conducted a perimeter
patrol, a duffel bag filled with human remains was discovered near a
Biogen building. In the hours after the incident, the G4S security teams
worked together with Cambridge Police, reviewing hours of security
camera coverage. The quick actions led to the identification of a suspect.
Thanks to the hard work of the security teams, it was determined the
suspect lived in a nearby apartment complex and he was apprehended.
Each year, I hear of instances where G4S teams are so committed
to “over performance” that our clients will suggest pay increases
for our hardworking Security Officers. So remember, if our
customer doesn’t know your name or if they have never
complimented your service or appearance, we simply haven't
added any value to their business beyond what we were
contracted to do. It's a fair question to ask: Why would they want
to pay more for the same service? I am not suggesting that this is
your sole responsibility. It’s something we work for daily as
managers and we need your help.
I ask that you think about how you can make a difference to meet
or exceed our customer expectations. Looking sharp is free. Proper
uniform maintenance is free. A sharp, well-dressed G4S Security
Officer with the proper training, mission and presence... is
priceless!
The four actions above are the building blocks for all things good
in our G4S world. What comes with PACS is customer satisfaction,
company growth and more dollars for increases and benefits.

Since 2014, G4S Secure Solutions has been honored to be the security
partner for Biogen, a global biotechnology company with headquarters
located in Massachusetts. G4S provides a wide variety of security
services including international command center personnel, vehicle and
foot patrol officers for three campuses, access control officers and special
event security details.

Tucson, AZ: G4S Security Officer Joseph Jewell is being honored by
the Mayor and City Council for his quick actions that saved the life of
a 6-month old baby who was left inside a hot car. Officer Jewell is part
of the G4S security team at the Tucson City Hall. The father of two
(pictured above with his wife and son, Micah) said his “fatherly
instincts” kicked in when a city employee alerted him there was a baby
crying inside a car parked outside the building.
The Security Officer said he was ready to break a window to pull out
the distressed child, but he found the car unlocked. Emergency crews
took the baby to the hospital where she fully recovered from the
incident.
“It's one of those unreal experiences like you hear about on TV, but
you never figure it's going to happen to you,” he said. “I'm just super
grateful she's okay.”

Jewell Featured on KVOA-TV, Kickstarts
“Not for a Minute” Awareness Campaign
G4S Officer Jewell has helped launch a campaign reminding
parents about the dangers of leaving a child in a car – even for
a few minutes. Jewell was featured in a story on KVOA-TV
about the recent near-tragedy at City Hall. The new education
campaign – called "Not for a Minute" – is part of an effort from
the United Way in Tucson.
Boynton Beach, FL: A G4S paramedic equipped with the latest
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) technology has saved the life
of a man who suffered a heart attack. G4S Paramedic Anthony
Alvarez, who is part of the security team for a gated community, was
dispatched to the scene where Marty Fiel had collapsed. G4S
Paramedic Alvarez successfully restarted Marty’s heart. By the time
city paramedics arrived, he was sitting upright.

Five G4S Communities Now Have
Upgraded Lifesaving Capabilities
This lifesaving event has demonstrated the need for other G4S
communities to upgrade their paramedic equipment with a
hospital-grade AED. In the weeks after Marty’s recovery, five
other communities now have a LIFEPAK®15 monitor/defibrillator
as part of their G4S paramedic services. The LIFEPAK®15 is the
most powerful AED available to emergency responders.
When Marty Fiel collapsed, bystanders immediately tried to use
a wall-mounted AED to save his life, but it was not strong enough
to restart his heart. In fact, doctors told Fiel’s family that his life
was saved only because the G4S paramedic used the powerful
LIFEPAK®15 within minutes of the life threatening event.
“We are pleased that our partnerships with these communities
include the high-level, lifesaving capabilities for our G4S
paramedics,” said Frank Hernandez, G4S General Manager,
Boca Raton, Florida. It truly makes our emergency response
commensurate with municipal EMS crews, providing increased
capabilities for residents.”

Lisle, IL: G4S team members at Navistar World Headquarters are getting praise for their
collaborative and professional work to accelerate the processing of a group of 125 visitors
through the access control system. The group had been invited to attend an event at Navistar
World Headquarters, but had not been previously registered. The G4S team learned of their
arrival 30 minutes before the start of the event.
“This was truly a remarkable accomplishment,” said Rick Nelson, G4S Project Manager.
“Events like this are common and we usually have several days advance notice to process
the visitor registration information. In this case, our team demonstrated composure during a
crisis and completed this task in less than 20 minutes.”
“We have been fortunate to have a team of dedicated Security Officers and leaders at WHQ
who possess the unique combination of skills that allow them to provide us with a high level
of security service coupled with great customer service,” said Ryan Johanneson, Senior
Regional Security Manager. “Navistar is always pleased to recognize outstanding work.”
Bank Protection Officer Finds
Skimming Device at ATM
Brooklyn, NY: G4S Officer Steve Sanders is being honored for protecting bank customers
from criminals who tried to steal critical personal data. Sanders recently discovered a
skimming device and pinhole camera at an ATM location. As a result of his diligence, he
prevented a mass compromise of bank customers’ account information.
Bank Officer Stops Man from “Shoulder Surfing”
at Bank ATM
Pittsburg, CA: G4S Bank Protection Officer Swakemyua Muhammend is being commended
for his vigilant observations that led to the arrest of a man who was “shoulder surfing”
customers. Shoulder surfing is when someone stands too close to another person at an
ATM, glancing to steal personal information. Police responded quickly and arrested the man.

Officers Recognized for Actions Preventing
“Suicide by Train”

Redwood City, CA: Two G4S Officers are being recognized for their actions to prevent a
train fatality. Security Supervisor Marvin McKinzy and Officer Nelson Rudolph were
instrumental in recognizing a despondent woman at a CalTrain Station, and taking
appropriate actions to prevent a fatality.
Because of the increased number of "suicide by train" incidents, G4S officers have been
trained by the Santa Clara County Mental Health Association to assess signs of individuals
who may be at risk to harming themselves or others. On two separate occasions, G4S
Officers have been instrumental in saving the lives of despondent individuals who were
standing near the train tracks.
Security Officers Find Drug Suspects
at Hospital
Birmingham, AL: Three G4S Officers are being commended
for their response to a security alert issued for three suspects
who were wanted for questioning about thefts and drug deals
near a hospital.
Using the hospital’s CCTV camera system, Custom Protection
Officer Curtis Timmons (pictured, right) located a suspicious
vehicle. G4S Lt. Brittani Robertson (pictured, left) and Captain
Lesley Williams (pictured, center) checked the hospital
entrances for the suspects who were eventually stopped by
Birmingham Police. As a result of the G4S Officers’ actions and
observations, the three suspects were apprehended.
G4S Officer Honored for Extinguishing Fire
Nashville, TN: A G4S Officer is being honored for
extinguishing a fire at a large manufacturing plant, saving
the facility from significant repairs and delayed production
time. When G4S Officer Uriah Seui (pictured) found a
grease fire, he grabbed a fire extinguisher and contained
the blaze until help arrived. Officer Seui’s quick action
stopped the fire before it could cause any large-scale
damage.

2014 Security Officer
of the Year
G4S has a long-standing tradition of recognizing and rewarding our Officers based
on our core values. The Security Officer of the Year award is the Highest honor for
G4S personnel.
G4S Security Officer of the Year Brian Polanco
Officer Brian Polanco is a great representative of our G4S team, and during his two years
of service, he has proven to be an excellent Officer
When Officer Brian Polanco was dispatched to help resolve a disturbance in a busy
hotel lobby, he was confronted by a person who was highly agitated. The Security
Officer first attempted to speak to the man and de-escalate the situation, but the
person remained uncooperative and frantic.
As the enraged man was being escorted out of the hotel lobby, he reached into his bag for
a flare gun and shot Officer Polanco. The G4S Officer was hit with the flare causing burns
and a broken finger. The man fled as the flare also ignited the lobby carpet. Despite his
injuries, Officer Polanco managed to extinguish the fire and then chase the man to detain him
until police arrived.
Officer Polanco has recovered from his injuries and has returned to work for our client,
a large hotelier in Honolulu, HI.

Each year, G4S receives many submissions for the Officer of the Year award from
all over the USA. A committee selected these two Officers who represent the best
of G4S.
G4S Officer of the Year Willie Johnson
Upscale Security Officer Willie Johnson has been part of the G4S team for four years,
receiving numerous accolades and awards during his career
Security Officer Willie Johnson was on patrol around the perimeter of his worksite
when he saw a vehicle on fire at the end of a road. He reported the situation to his
supervisor and drove to the scene.
Once he arrived on the dead-end road, Officer Johnson saw that the small fire had quickly
accelerated and was engulfing the vehicle in flames. He notified emergency services and
ran to the vehicle where he found a barely conscious woman injured in the driver’s seat.
Despite substantial personal risk, Officer Johnson dragged the woman from the car and
away from the flames. Emergency crews arrived and took the woman to the hospital. She
has since fully recovered.
Police later told G4S that the elderly woman had gone missing from a nearby assisted living
facility and her family had been frantically searching for her.

showing exceptional awareness. Officer Freeman uncovered a major internal theft operation
at a client’s business.

Custom Protection Officer Phyllis Hedgepeth — for professionalism and due diligence in
identifying and confiscating suspects with firearms on two separate occasions.

and diligence. Officer Doyal detained a trespasser who had a long, violent and criminal
history.

performance and unwavering dedication and commitment to duty.
Upscale Security Officer Ronald Pitts — for an exemplary and highly professional manner
in dealing with a challenging situation involving many high school students.

Transportation Officer Gilbert Rodriguez — for heroically rescuing a mother and her baby
from a vehicle submerged in a roadside gully.
Custom Protection Officer James Errante and Custom Protection Officer Lester
Anderson — for professionalism, integrity, teamwork and heroism. While escorting a
suspicious person from the train, the suspect began a fight with CPO Errante and gained
control of his firearm. CPO Anderson engaged the suspect and received multiple vicious bite
wounds. The suspect ran and fired at CPO Errante striking him twice. Police apprehended
the suspect after a chase. The two Officers’ quick and decisive actions ensured safety for
passengers.
INTEGRITY

Security Officer Christopher Pawl — for exemplary performance and professionalism on
the job and keeping a suicidal teenager from jumping off the ledge of a parking structure.
Security Officer Alfred Delgadillo — for quick thinking to thwart a robbery in the store.
Custom Protection Officer Todd Uhler — for professionalism, dedication and client
collaboration. CPO Uhler received the coveted "Partnership Award" from the Eugene, OR
Police Department for his participation in 540 ordinance violations and 33 police assists in
2014, including the apprehension of persons wanted by the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service.
TEAMWORK & COLLABORATION
We collaborate for the benefit of G4S as a whole.
Custom Protection Officer Sor Lor — for professionalism, dedication to duty and
exceptional hard work.
Security Flex Officer Grant Veeder — for dedication, teamwork and leadership while
working as a Flex Officer on multiple assignments.
Site Supervisor Richard Grasso and Upscale Security Officer Timothy Leary — for
dedication and dependability. After a severe snowstorm, Officer Leary and Supervisor Grasso
maintained security of a mall including a pet adoption center, where they took care of 65
cats and kittens that were stranded without food or water.

Serving Communities
G4S has been a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity in many different cities
across the USA. So far this year, almost 200 G4S employees have volunteered on
build sites and with revitalization programs.

G4S Joins Law Enforcement to Support Special Olympics
Honolulu, HI: Members of the G4S Honolulu office, along with
Outrigger Enterprises Group employees, participated in the 30th
Annual Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fundraiser for Special
Olympics. The Hawaii 5K, the largest Torch Run in the world, is named
for fallen Law Enforcement Officer and Special Olympics coach, Troy
Barboza. G4S has participated in this event since 2008.

Idle Time Alert Triggered
Info Background:
GPS in G4S Vehicles
G4S vehicles equipped with GPS tracking
devices provide reassurances that Security
Officers are patrolling correctly and covering the
proper routes in a timely manner. For customers,
it provides proof that Officers are doing their
jobs. If G4S vehicles stop for a significant
amount of time, it creates an Idle Time Alert.
