2015 Coach Holidays
2015 Coach Holidays Guernsey & the Isle of Sark page 24-25 London Eastbourne page 90-95 page 54-57 a new dimension to Roberts Coaches, already a very successful local business. However, our holidays became exceptionally popular, with more and more people wanting to travel with us. We were encouraged by our clients to expand our seaside holiday programme into different areas such as European Holidays, City breaks, themed tours and daytrips. We soon built up a loyal following of satisfied customers who return again and again to travel with us and many of them have become our friends over the years. 10 years on ... On 15th March 2005, the very first Roberts Holiday left our Travel Centre bound for the East Coast resort of Bridlington. From memory I think we carried somewhere around 40 passengers and it is fair to say that Bridlington has remained one of our most popular holiday destinations over the last 10 years. The pre tour reception was held in the drivers’ rest room, spilling over into the reception area in the main building and the door to door service was provided by members of staff bringing passengers in via their own cars or by the coaches on their way back from the “school run.” Looking back and comparing that with the purpose built Travel Centre and the very efficient feeder service that we now operate, it does show just how much Roberts Holidays has grown over the last 10 years. However one thing that has not altered is the warm welcome that clients receive when they arrive at the Holiday Office to begin their trip, whether they have taken advantage of our door to door service or arrived in their own vehicles and parked in our secure CCTV monitored car park. 2 Visit www.robertstravelgroup.co.uk I remember serving teas and coffees that Wednesday as if it were yesterday. I had put my glad rags on and smartened up a bit to await my first passengers. I had also bought a bottle of Whisky to celebrate the “maiden voyage” and a “tot in the tea” proved so popular that it has remained a feature of a Roberts Holiday to this day. In many ways, what I was doing then was a bit by the “seat of my pants” but it seemed to work. Whenever a potential customer arrived at reception, I left my accounts desk and went downstairs to meet them, transforming myself into a holiday clerk on the way down. My holiday brochures, such as they were, were printed on an old dot matrix printer and I only had a stock of about half a dozen. If I got a rush on, people had to wait in the reception while I printed off a few more. They do seem rather amateurish now, but in their day they did the job. They were certainly “no frills” publications. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since March 2005 but the heart of Roberts Holidays has remained exactly the same as it was all those years ago. To be truthful, there was no desire on my part to establish a Holiday Section for Roberts Coaches, as it was then. I thought if I could operate half a dozen trips a year, it would add Our 2015 brochure will hopefully contain something for everyone. We have as always included all the popular seaside places, some resort based, others following a particular theme. Guernsey and and the Isle of Sark features in 2015. We are visiting Scotland, Wales and Ireland and are offering our London weekends / short breaks. Our European trips take in the Imperial Cities of Prague, Budapest and Vienna, Cantabria in Northern Spain, the Eagle’s Nest in Austria and, for the first time in our programme, a Rhine and Moselle Cruise. Over the last year we have acquired three brand new touring coaches which have been very well received by our passengers, particularly for longer trips and continental travel. In the early part of this year, we held a number of social mornings which consisted of a video on certain holidays in the 2014 brochure accompanied by a bite to eat, relevant to the holidays featured, a quiz, a game of bingo and a chance to have a good old chat. These have proved very popular and we will resume these in the autumn. All the proceeds from the earlier events will go to funding a Christmas outing for the children of Forest Way School. If you are interested in, or need more information on, any of our European trips we will be having a European evening, traditional costume encouraged, on 19th August from 6-8pm. There are always so many people to thank for their continuing hard work in making the holidays so successful. I am very grateful to the Holiday Team, the tour drivers, our feeder drivers, the operations staff and Jonathan for his continuing help and support. Finally, I must thank you our customers for your continued enthusiasm for our holiday programme, your constructive feedback and your friendship. What started as an acorn has grown into a might oak. I hope you enjoy reading this brochure. My very best wishes. Our Testimonials We have just returned from a trip and wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone concerned. From the minute we parked up on Sunday until we left Monday evening, we all felt a great sense of being valued clients. Many thanks for a wonderful holiday, from day one until we arrived home it was the best. Thanks again and see you soon. Everything is always good on a Roberts Holiday; the service from the office through to the actual holiday is 1st class. We have recently returned from a short break and if all your trips measure up to this we can’t see much room for improvement. We very much appreciate the home pick up along with the friendly staff and always enjoy the excursions on the holidays. If, after booking and before departure, we make a significant change to your package you will have the option of withdrawing from the package without penalty or alternatively you may transfer to another package without paying an administration fee. In either case we will pay you compensation according to the scale set out below. A significant change includes a change in departure time or return time of more than 12 hours, a change of departure point, location of resort or quality of hotel, (excluding single overnight hotels on touring packages where the quality of the hotel is comparable), a change of mode when crossing the Channel, or the specification of the coach. These include the Athens Convention (applies to transport by ship), the Berne Convention (applies to transport by rail), the Geneva Convention (applies to transport by road) and the Paris Convention (applies to accommodation). You can get copies of the relevant conventions from the Internet or from us. You should also note that these conventions limit or remove the amount of compensation that you can claim for death, injury, delay to passengers and loss, damage and delay to luggage. NB: this clause does not apply to any separate contracts that you may enter into for excursions or activities during or outside of your package. What do I need to do if I have to complain? If you have a complaint during your package you should tell the driver/representative or supplier at the earliest opportunity so that they can do their utmost to resolve the problem immediately. If they are unable to resolve the problem to your satisfaction you should complete a Holiday Report Form which is available from the driver/ representative. You will be given a copy of this report which you should keep. If, on your return from your package, you remain dissatisfied you should write within 28 days to The Tour Manager, Roberts Holidays, The Limes, Midland Road, Hugglescote, Leics. LE67 2FX. In your letter you will need to quote your booking reference number, holiday number, departure date and the number of the Holiday Report Form (or alternative method of identifying the form) which you completed at the time. If you do not tell us at the earliest opportunity about a problem giving rise to your complaint we cannot take steps to investigate and rectify it at the time. We will take into account the date you first drew the problem to the attention of our driver/representative or supplier when responding to your complaint and it may affect your rights under this Trading Charter if we have not been able to investigate and remedy the situation at the time. Coach seating There is a seating plan of the coach for each package, but it is possible that on occasions operational reasons will require a coach with a different configuration to be used. We therefore reserve the right to alter a coach-seating plan and allocate seats other than those you have booked. Requests for particular seats can be made on most packages when booking but because allocations are made on a first come, first served basis you are recommended to book early. When your booking is confirmed you will be offered the best seats that are available at that time. If you know someone who may want to book later but sit near you please discuss this with the booking clerk at the time you make your booking. Specific seats will not be allocated on coaches operating on feeder services. Some people may be at risk from discomfort or deep vein thrombosis (DVT) if they remain immobile on a journey for a long period of time. If you are planning to undertake a bus or coach journey of more than 3 hours you should consult your doctor if you have ever had DVT or pulmonary embolism, a family history of clotting conditions, cancer or treatment for cancer, a stroke, heart or lung disease or if you have had major surgery in the past 3 months. We reserve the right to refuse any booking in the absence of a doctor’s certificate confirming that you are fit to travel. During the journey we will provide comfort stops as frequently as possible. During any journey you should drink alcohol only in moderation as it leads to dehydration. Passenger behaviour We want all our customers to have a happy and carefree holiday. But you must remember that you are responsible for your behaviour and the effect it may have on others. If you or any member of your party is abusive or disruptive or behaves in a way which, in our reasonable opinion, could cause damage or injury to others or affect their enjoyment of their holiday, or which could damage property, we have the right, after reasonable consideration, to terminate your contract with us. If this happens we will have no further obligations or liability to you. The coach driver/representative, ship’s captain, or authorised official of other means of transport is entitled to refuse you boarding if in their reasonable opinion you are unacceptably under the influence of drink or drugs or you are being violent or disruptive. If you are refused boarding on the outward journey we will regard it as a cancellation by you and we will apply cancellation charges according to the scale set out above. If the refusal is on the return journey we have the right to terminate the contract and will have no further obligations or liability to you. If you are a British citizen travelling outside the United Kingdom you must have a full UK passport valid for a minimum of three months after your scheduled date of return. Non-UK citizens must seek passport and visa advice from the relevant consulates or embassies of the countries you plan to visit prior to making a booking for one of our packages. The name on the passport must match the name on the ticket. If someone in your party changes name after the booking is made you must tell us immediately so that we can issue the ticket in the new name. Approximately 2 weeks prior to departure we will send the lead named passenger all the necessary labels so that you receive them in good time for your holiday. Certain travel documents may have to be retained by us and your driver/ courier will then issue them to you at the relevant time. If you lose a travel document after it has been issued to you we will require you to meet the direct cost charged by the carrier/supplier for the issue of a duplicate or replacement. Roberts Holidays reserve the right to modify itineraries to conform with requests from the competent authorities in the United Kingdom and any other sovereign state through which the tour will operate. This applies whether the booking is made on-line, in person, in writing, or by telephone. If a particular issue is identified, we reserve the right to request a doctor’s certificate confirming that the passenger is fit for travel and reserve the right to refuse any booking in the absence of such doctor’s certificate being produced upon request.
