The Novium hosts a lively programme of events, walks and talks, and the opportunity to view the recently uncovered remains of a Roman bathhouse in situ and the Jupiter Stone, a piece of Roman sculpture base dated between the late first and early third century AD. Schools and Group Visits welcome. Another interesting attraction is the Guildhall, a rare medieval survival in the heart of the City in Priory Park. Visitors to Chichester are encouraged to use the long stay car parks. These have plenty of spaces close to the heart of the City within easy walking distance of the shopping centre and have the lowest charges. On Street Voucher Parking On street voucher parking is a method of paying for on street parking and operates: Monday-Saturday, 9.00am-5.30pm Vouchers cost 20p, 40p and 60p each and are available individually or in books of ten. They can be obtained from a wide variety of outlets throughout Chichester including the Tourist Information Centre or where this sign is displayed. Permit Parking Places Parking for permit holders only during the hours shown. Parking Vouchers are NOT valid in these spaces. The parking charge is £1.20 per hour (20p per 10 minutes). The maximum length of stay is one hour. Blue (Disabled) Badge holders are not subject to time limits or payment when parked in a voucher parking bay. Motor cycles can be parked without charge. Avenue de Chartres Car Park This award winning modern decked car park is ideally located for those approaching the City from the west, along the A27 from Portsmouth or south from Bognor, the Witterings and Selsey. It is a light airy building which provides some of the best views of the Cathedral. Highly recommended for visitor parking. Parking for up to one hour for vehicles displaying the required number of valid parking vouchers. Unlimited parking for resident permit holders. Visitor Permits are NOT valid in these spaces. How it works Cattle Market Car Park This attractive car park serves those travelling from the east along the A27 from Arundel. On Wednesdays and Saturdays part of the car park is used by the bustling traders’ market. Shared Parking Places Northgate Car Park Close to the world famous Festival Theatre this car park is most convenient for those driving from north of the Downs (Midhurst & Petworth area). Voucher parking is simple – upon arrival scratch off five panels on the parking voucher(s) to indicate your arrival time. DAY, MONTH, DATE, HOUR, MINUTE (to next five minutes) When using more than one voucher it is important to scratch off the same time of arrival on all vouchers. The vouchers should be displayed by folding the top edge of the voucher(s) and hanging it/them inside the vehicle window facing the nearest kerb and not overlapping. • You are liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice if you park beyond your selected parking period (maximum length of stay one hour) or if you fail to display a voucher correctly. • Vouchers cannot be used in permit holder only parking places or in car parks. Places of Interest and Visitor Information Easy to Use Parking Guide All of the car parks in Chichester are within easy walking distance of the City Centre. Generally we would recommend that when visiting the City, the Long Stay car parks are the best ones to use, they have the largest number of spaces and lowest charges. However, depending on the reason for your visit, you may prefer to park elsewhere and this leaflet identifies those places where car parking is available, together with the charges that apply, under the following headings: Short Stay: is for those quick visits under 3 hours Long Stay: is for visits of 3 or more hours Voucher Parking: is for short stay on street parking. Vouchers can be purchased from Council Offices, the Tourist Information Centre and retail outlets displaying the voucher sign. It is necessary to purchase a ticket on arrival at all car parks. Open Monday to Saturday (also Sunday and Bank Holidays April-Sept ), it has information on places to visit and stay, events in and around Chichester and sells a fine selection of souvenirs. Westgate Leisure offers a wide range of sporting activities including three swimming pools, one with a 55m water slide and health and fitness facilities. In the Cattle Market car park a large Traders’ Market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A thriving Farmers’ Market is held in the City Centre pedestrian precinct every two weeks on a Friday between 9am and 2pm. For more information phone 01243 534500. With the Cathedral, the Novium, Festival Theatre and Pallant House Gallery, Chichester has much to offer the visitor, but there is far more to Chichester than just these famous places. A stroll around the City reveals a unique experience with famous, specialist and unusual shops and with the parks, cafes, pubs and restaurants, there is always somewhere close at hand to sit and enjoy Chichester’s special ambience. Shopmobility This scheme improves access to Chichester City Centre, giving greater independence to people with limited mobility. Parking for disabled badge holders To help people with disabilities gain easy access to the City, most pay and display car parks have specially allocated parking spaces. These spaces, along with any others in the pay and display car parks, can be used free of charge provided the vehicle is displaying a valid blue badge or foreign disabled badge and the registered disabled person is driving or is a passenger. On street City Centre voucher parking spaces or specially allocated spaces adjacent to the pedestrian area can be used with no time limit or payment.
