Spgs., CO 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Hello HOG Members, I wanted to THANK everyone for the warm welcome at the February HOG meeting! I am really looking forward to having a great connection with the HOG group as we move forward into 2016! My quick Biography: I was born in Denver, CO. GO BRONCO’S! Raised in Western KS, 30 miles south of Colby, KS. (Just like the John Denver Song, “Mathew”). I have been married to Lori for 30 years and we have 5 children, Andy (29) , Rebecca (26), Rachel (22), Aaron (19), and Danielle (15) , 4 Grand Daughters and my 5th Grand Daughter is due in June! I have been in the motorcycle industry since 1983 when I graduated from MMI/UTI in Phoenix, AZ. I have worked as a Technician, Service Manager, Service Director for Multi-Location Motorcycle Dealer Group in Colorado, Service Manager for a Multi-Location Dealer Group in Kansas, Service Manager for CSHD and PPHD for 9 years, and now as the General Manager of PPHD. I love everything about Colorado From Our Sponsor (Continued) From Our Director Springs, Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, and the people that ride them! The path to HarleyDavidson is a life journey, and I am very happy that my journey has led me here! The Dealership is currently a few weeks in on our computer Dealer Management System change, and all department team members are picking up the new processes quickly. This will be a work in process so we ask for your patience at the registers as we learn more each day. We are currently receiving New Motorcycles weekly, so be sure to ask our Fit Specialists to show you what is new, and they will be happy to assist! Please visit our website www.pikespeakharleydavidson.c om and check out our updated staff photo’s and events calendar. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter as well so that you can be up to date on all of our upcoming events. You can also find a link to the HOG calendar under the “Contact” tab. Joe Denning General Manager Pikes Peak Harley-Davidson 5867 N. Nevada Ave. Colorado Springs, CO. 80918 719-278-2323 [email protected] ------------------------------------------- Another two months of winter are now behind us, and another month closer to warmer weather! Even though we were hit with some significant snowfall, many of you are still riding! In January there were 3 impromptu rides that had several hard-core riders attending. February also proved to have some nice weather allowing another lunch ride up to Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ in Lyons. Please remember that our chapter motto is “Ride and Have Fun”, so if you have any ideas for rides please contact our Head or Assistant Head Road Captains. As many of you know, I am from PA. I returned home over Valentines weekend, and endured the Polar Vortex that hit out there. Even though it was -16 (with a wind-chill of -33) on Sunday morning, my husband and I attended the local HOG Sunday Breakfast Meeting. I had the honor to speak about our chapter, and tell them about our members, rides and most of all our annual 5N1. Many of them were quite interested, and hopefully they will be making the trip out here in the next few years. The 17th Annual 5N1 is just around the corner. Remember to register early and reserve your room at the Marriott in Ft. Collins. We will be holding a drawing to upgrade your room if Page 2 From Our Director (Continued) you are registered prior to the pre-party. You have a chance to win an upgrade to your room with a complimentary beer amenity package. All you need to do is bring your hotel confirmation to the pre-party to be entered in the drawing. The drawing will take place the evening of the pre-party and you must be present to win. Kim Sisson-Crow Director [email protected] ------------------------------------------- From Our Assistant Director Saturday Ride: A friend called and said “lets ride up to Cripple Creek”. As it was a great summer day I replied “done deal”. My wife and I jumped on the bike and we were on our way. We arrived and proceeded to lose a few quarters and sip a couple morning Bloody Mary’s. An hour after we arrived it was time to head for Victor and a cold beer. Beer done it was time to head back to the big city. The road was wonderful as I tagged behind my friend. He then motion me to pull up and I cranked the throttle open. When I got close he waved me around, guess he wanted me to lead. That’s cool, more throttle, From Our Assistant Director (Continued) From Our Treasurer (Continued) From Our Secretary (Continued) crested the hill outside Divide at 95. Oh Shit …… Little old lady stopped dead in the road. Locked the brakes, tire smoke filling the sky. That big rear bumper just kept getting closer. Glanced left, barrow pit looked softer than the bumper. Going for it. Let off the brakes to make a slight left turn. Handle bars went wild, this old cowboy is about to get bucked off. Flying thru the air without my cape thinking how hard is asphalt? vacation! already scheduled. Don’t miss out on the fun. The more riders the more fun for all. Lucky I hit head first. Broken ribs, collar bone, shoulder and some stitches behind my ears. Wife fine. Moral of the story, I made a few changes to how I ride. Remember it is your ride, your choices. As we closed the books on January, we had a total of $11,934.54 of which $1,893.80 was the LOH balance and $10,040.74 was the HOG balance. Currently, as of February 16 our total is $12,688.70 with LOH having $1,916.53 and HOG having $10,772.17. Keep the Shiny Side Up! It is always fun to help my HOG brothers. Michael Meyers Assistant Head Road Captain hog405assistantroadcaptain@g mail.com Welcome Dave!!! ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ From Our Webmaster Sonny Taylor Webmaster [email protected] From Our Editor I joined HOG right after I bought my first bike and have been enjoying their benefits ever since. I decided this spring to volunteer to be the editor so I can do something to give back to everyone that supported me and the whole HOG family for the last 9 years. As your editor I am in charge of putting together this newsletter. If you would like to write an article to be included, or have ideas of what I can research for the newsletter, let me know. Let’s make this interesting for everyone. This is your newsletter so don’t be shy about offering ideas for improvements and inclusions. Lets get out and ride. Dave Dempsey Editor [email protected] ------------------------------------------- We would like to welcome aboard a new Assistant Webmaster Dave Marshall! He started helping PPHOG last fall and we are very grateful to have him with us. This year we started out with a Spanking New Web Site. “Wa Ho” The aim is to help the PPHOG improve their website in appearance and make it a joy for people to come, browse and see what we have available. Last winter was a cold one so it was time for me to open up the innovative & creative side of me (not much there) and build the Pikes Peak HOG Cell Phone App. For everyone that has a smart phone you can download the Please let me introduce myself. I’m a Colorado native, born in Denver raised in Colorado Springs. I attended UCCS for 2 and 1/2 years then Vietnam happened and I enlisted in the Air Force. I spent 5 years traveling around the world from the UK to Alaska, then 41 years working in the private sector; now I am retired. I bought my first Harley, a 2005 Road King Custom in October of 2005 and since then I have had 4 other bikes, all Harley’s. I’m currently riding a 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultra. I wish I would have started riding 45 years Page 4 From Our Historian We need a picture!!! I would like to introduce myself. I have been riding since 1976, starting small (Honda 175) and working my way up to my 2006 Street Glide (my seventh bike). My biggest rides have been two trips to West Virginia from here (solo both times), and finally making it to Sturgis in 2013. I have been a HOG member for a few years now and am excited From Our Historian (Continued) From Our Historian (Continued) to see the Chapter moving forward. I look forward to working with the Chapter officers and the membership. Bob McCune Historian [email protected] As the new Historian, I am committed to documenting and preserving the activities of the Chapter and ensuring the members can access the historical documents, photos, flyers, etc. Digging into the Chapter locker I found a notebook containing documents from 1986-1996 (thanks to whoever saved this notebook!). The first thing I discovered was that we are coming up to a very important anniversary this year. From what I have read, this chapter was established in September 1986 (if someone has further information on this I would appreciate hearing it). So, this September marks our 30th Anniversary!! I think we should celebrate this special occasion and would appreciate any inputs on how we can do it. ------------------------------------------- Since this is a new position, I am asking you to help me build the “library” so we can all relive the past. If anyone has been a member for a while (especially from the beginning) I would love to talk with you. If you have any old newsletters, photos, etc and would be willing to allow me to make copies (either paper or electronic), it would go a long way to preserving the past. I will continue to dig in the locker and check around the dealership to see what other treasures I can find. I look forward to meeting and riding with you! Page 5 Open Forum From Our Members
