Okizu and Hennessy Funds present The word okizu comes from the Sioux language, and means " to unify, to come together as one." Each summer hundreds of children are able to do just that while at Camp Okizu. They come together through laughter, play, hugs, song, tears, even more laughter, love, and the shared experience of childhood cancer in their lives. One special night each year we too are able to come together as members of the Okizu family in support of Okizu and the unconditional acceptance and support it provides. Each dollar raised at Art Inspiring Hope goes directly to support a child’s summer camp experience. Because of our minimal administrative costs, and our generous all-volunteer camp staff during the summer, the funds we raise on this special night can be earmarked solely for camp operations. It is our goal to raise enough to send campers to both Oncology and SIBS (Special and Important Brothers and Sisters) Camp. HERE’S WHAT OKIZU CAMPERS HAVE TO SAY: “It was the first time away from home and he thrived, he was confident, and can’t wait to go back. Ashton is more open about cancer. The word has come up more from him. He is more comfortable with it. That HAS to be healthy.” – Parent of a 10-year-old male Oncology Camper “It makes my sad day really happy.” – 10-year-old female Oncology Camper “Understanding that this is a lifelong process and that we don’t have to ‘suck it up and get over it’ to be ‘normal.’ What we feel is normal and will be a lifelong feeling not limited to a certain amount of time.” – Family Camp Bereaved Parent “Not only for the benefit of my daughter with cancer, but her siblings could not have made it through the worst time in their lives without Okizu.” – Family Camp Parent “I wish the world operated like Camp Okizu.” – Family Camp Parent “Family Camp allows my family to put a positive note on cancer! We are so grateful we can be part of this family of friends that are all on a similar journey. Family Camp reminds we are not alone and no matter what happens, we have a support team waiting to provide us with hope and encouragement.” – Family Camp Parent Join an illustrious company of intrepid guests arriving by train, plane, steamship, and hot air balloon from exotic parts unknown, to enter a world of science fiction and fantasy—a vintage world powered by cutting edge Victorian technology. It’s a theme that cries out for creativity in dress—try wearing a pair of aviator goggles with your tuxedo, or accessorize with gears and clockworks instead of your favorite jewels. Steampunk is a joyous fantasy of the past, allowing us to revel in a nostalgia for what never was. It is a literary playground for adventure, spectacle, drama, escapism, and exploration. But most of all it is fun!
