L
ast months discussion on ways to improve our
meetings revealed some interesting points of
view.
The suggestion to make space available for
modelling on the night I must say surprised me,
personally I’ve never felt the desire to do any
modelling on our meeting nights, even if I did I
doubt that I could concentrate enough to make it
work. We are however a modelling club before
anything else and of course we will make space
available for those who do want to, perhaps the
best spot for this would be on our tables up front
using the long cushion as the seat.
I also think the idea of reporting on new releases
or even rumours of such will prove popular, a
reporter for each category in armour / aircraft /
ships .etc. would be the way to go I think.
Although I doubt we need worry about the
category of cars for nothing new or interesting has
surfaced in years. (Only half joking Hamish).
Whatever changes we make I am sure you will
agree we do need more modelling banter
happening, perhaps our display table should be
the source of what we seek. Please keep the
ideas coming.

MEA CULPA
I’m sure most members noticed that the gremlins had a field
day in last months SeamLines. This was due to a
combination of working late into the night and the lack of a
proof-reader to check the final draft.
To try and prevent a recurrence, the deadline for
contributions has been brought forward to one week before
publication (See SeamLines Policy & Disclaimer on page 8).
This will allow more time for the preparation of the newsletter
articles. Also, as an experiment, the final draft of this month’s
SeamLines will be sent to a party totally detached from the
club for proof reading.
I hope these measures will ensure that SeamLines maintains
the high standard I’ve been striving for in the last twenty
months. If you have any comments or suggestions for the
future direction of the newsletter I’ll be only too pleased to
hear them.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
TO MEMBERS
It is the Club’s practice to post a copy
of SeamLines to any financial
member who is unable to attend club
meetings.
Please note that no further copies of
SeamLines will be forwarded to
unfinancial members after this, the
April 2005 issue.
Should you wish to remain a Club
member for 2005, please forward
your $30 annual subscription to the
Treasurer by the 3rd of May, 2005.

Trip Report
2005 ANNUAL GPA SWIM-IN
You know that feeling? When you have an
interest in a certain subject, and you think you
know everything there is to know or everything
that is happening concerning that subject?
Well..... how wrong you can be !!!!
What’s short, wide and camouflaged
and often found in military vehicle museums?
I recently discovered by accident a little event
that I had never heard of that was about to
celebrate it's 26th year! The 2005 ANNUAL GPA
SWIM-IN is a week-long gathering of military
vehicle enthusiasts in the Murray River town of
Corowa. It originated with a group of guys
getting together to "swim" their amphibious
jeeps (GPA's) in this quiet part of the river, and it
has now grown into an annual event, this year
attracting over 150 different military vehicles.
Ken Noble
their private workshop facility. Here they were
working on a 2 Pounder carrier to get it ready for
the Saturday parade through Corowa. Then it
was back to Corowa and more in-depth
investigation of the main street pubs.....
Friday was an informal day with people still
arriving and others test driving their vehicles,
either up the main street or around the dirt tracks
behind the main caravan park which most of the
entrants were staying at. It was here that we got
the chance to have a ride in a Bren-Gun
Carrier...... really GROUSE fun!!!!!
Saturday morning began at 9.00am with a
parade along Corowa's main street, then onto
the local airport. This is about a 5km trip and
every one of the 150 vehicles present took part,
including 17 Bren Gun Carriers. Upon arrival at
the airport it was declared that a world record
had been created for the largest number of
running Bren Gun Carriers in a parade since
WW2. We then all headed back into Corowa for
lunch and a swapmeet in the local park.
Saturday night was spent at the caravan park for
dinner and presentations for the people with
military vehicles.
Vehicles present included: JEEPS, GPA's,
DUKW's, FERRET's, a HUMMER( HUMVEE),
all types of trucks from WW2 to the present,
three WW2 German motorcycle/sidecar outfits
and what appeared to be a genuine WW2 VW
MILITARY BEETLE, and of course all those
BREN GUN CARRIERS.
My mate, Sloanie, and I arrived on the
Wednesday afternoon and after checking in to
our motel , we began the arduous investigation
of the six pubs and three clubs that Corowa has
to offer. TOUGH JOB BUT SOMEONE HAD TO
DO IT!
The first organised event of the week was a tour
of the TENIX DEFENCE HEAVY
MAINTENANCE FACILITY, located at
Bandiana. Even if you aren't exactly thrilled
about military vehicles like me, I think you would
still appreciate this place. It's here that all the
wheeled and tracked Army vehicles and artillery
guns are sent for overhaul. If the Army drives it
or tows it, it's here.
In the afternoon we looked through the Army
Museum at Bandiana and were shown through
How d’ya like me new ute?
Sloanie and I had a great time, not just on the
pub crawl, and I will definitely be returning next
year. I'll let you know when it's on.
Ken.

Those members who use Photo-Etched Metal parts may be
interested in The Small Shop’s range of PE handling tools.

I R Models caters mainly for the model railway fraternity
specialising in etched brass accessories for modellers of NSW
Railways, but they also import the full range of Hold & Fold tools,
including 2", 4" and 8" folding tools, rolling sets for producing
curves and cylinders and cut-off sets for removing components
from the fret cleanly and safely. These can be purchased
individually or as complete photo-etch handling kits.
The Small Shop is based in the USA, but they do have an
Australian distributor. This should be handy to save on time and

Minitool Angle-Grinder ‘S’
One of the most versatile tools in the Boehler Minitool
range, this is the only one that’s had a substantial
change from it’s original form.
Resembling a full-size Angle-Grinder now, it can be
fitted with both hard and flexible backing discs for
sanding operations. Unlike its predecessor, it can
also be fitted with a 3-jaw chuck for drilling or a collet
head for milling.
It can also take 50mm fine or coarse circular sawblades and a diamond cut-off blade.
It can’t be fitted with the earlier machine’s cylindrical
grinding wheel, nor can it be fixed in the drill-press. In
fact none of the earlier machines accessories can be
used in this device (and vice-versa).
Features;
Twin ball-bearings
