I just pushed my exercise regimen up a notch, and am determined to cut out the junk fund and improve my diet to one that promises to prolong life. What would inspire this? Remember that little daughter I once wrote about in my column in the Sun-Sentinel? She and her hubby, living in NYC, are expecting a baby girl in late November ! It just doesn’t get any better! I want to be around to watch when that J u n e 2 0 14 baby is old enough to go to Disney and coerce her Mom and Dad into jumping on one of those “thrill” rides. And oh, the teen years. I can’t wait to watch that from the grandma’s vantage! Joshing abit, this is truly the most exhilarating news that I’ve had since she, herself, was born. The news couldn’t have come at a better time, as I am still recovering from getting slammed off the road by a young motorist on a parallel road along A1A. The little HHR Chevy, now history, was deemed a total loss. So, needless to say, I have been a bit preoccupied. Thus the small issue this month. To all the wonderful groups that are not featured in this issue, you will be included in our October issue.. Funding Arts Broward, Children’s Home Society, UM Women’s annual luncheon are but a few that will be featured. But “A Prom to Remember” has changed that for the lucky kids who get to attend. This year’s event was at the Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale. Prom Chair Brandon Opre, his wife Christine, and numerous other volunteers made certain that this group of youth, 1 ages 12 to 19, enjoyed a celebration like none other. Each girl was given a new prom dress, and limos brought the children to the oceanfront hotel. Lisa Bennett accompanied Patrick Daoud, owner of Daoud’s Jewelry, the presenting sponsor. T Fellow Realtors and associates from Intercoastal congratulate Beth Beauchamp, third from right, on front row. he 12th annual Luxury Real Estate Spring Retreat was held on a recent weekend at the Ritz Carlton Resort in Fort Lauderdale. The culmination of the invitation-only event that brings together the most prominent luxury real estate brokers from across the globe to discuss current real estate trends was the gala dinner and presentation of the Luxury Real Estate Lifetime Achievement Award. Beth Beauchamp of Intercoastal Realty was recipient of the prestigious award. With a focus that never wavers, Beth has become one of the most respected experts on all things waterfront. This former teacher, mother of three, grandmother of five, and longtime wife of one, still has a passion for real estate that has only grown stronger over the 35 years she’s worked in the industry. When she started Intercoastal Realty in 1979, she knew she wanted the company to set a new standard for any real estate business. J u n e 2 0 14 Beth initially listed “only” waterfront properties and over many years when anyone saw Intercoastal Realty’s red post with its unique “belaying” pin cross bar, they knew the property was on the water. Her way of doing things was to work hard and smart for all of her buyers and sellers and for the last three decades, Intercoastal Realty has built a reputation for fairness, ethical behavior, and in-depth knowledge of the real estate market. Because of her successes Beth was invited to join national and international real estate groups that work together to understand the changes in the luxury real estate market. Among these were The Estates Club and the Registry, whose members were restricted to owners or officers of successful real estate companies, which met rigid criteria and exchanged ideas. Intercoastal Realty values its partnership with Luxury Real Estate, the leader in luxury real estate networks. The Board | w w w. Intercoastal Realty is a founding member of the Board of Regents and the exclusive Regent for Fort Lauderdale. Intercoastal Realty is still owned and managed by Beth and her family. Her belief has always been that you should embrace new technology but personal knowledge and interaction is key. Intercoastal Realty associates will take a new buyer on an educational tour of the potential neighborhoods so that the buyer can see up close and personally what kind of neighborhood they may be living in. Intercoastal associates strive to know every subdivision, its good points and bad points, where to go shopping, dining, etc. Although the decision was made to expand its market to non-waterfront properties several years ago, Intercoastal’s knowledge of waterfront rules and regulations is still fine-tuned. Beth’s leadership, years of experience and tech savviness to focus on its niche of marketing luxury waterfront homes and coastal properties has made Intercoastal Realty the leader in waterfront home sales, noted a spokesperson for the company. The boutique style company chooses not to sell houses, but to sell homes. Since 1986, Luxury Real Estate and Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate has grown to become a global collection of the finest luxury real estate brokers in the world, this group of more than 130,000 professionals in more than 85 countries collectively sells in excess of $190 billion of real estate annually. 9 page 10 person R osemary Duffy Larson, who has been a stalwart in the philanthropic world of Broward for decades, was recently feted by a group of close friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. I find it to be a delightful summertime wine. I hope you will too! Not all wine lovers love rosé; this requires conversation, planning and tasting. Summer after summer, I’m intrigued by the color and drawn to the mystique of a cool crisp rosé. On a hot summer’s day or night, I feel compelled to taste a rosé from Provence, where I tasted it first. Maybe it was the terroir, or maybe the cobblestone streets lining the small cafés. 83 Rue de St. Tropez, 2012 definitely epitomizes the Extremely Pale Rosé (the title of a book by Jamie Ivey about a quest for the palest of them all). This Côtes de Provence has a magnificent nose of strawberry fields with a creamy, smooth, elegant taste on the palate. My friend Paul, the winemaker, says we must add a strawberry to the glass for color. I agree! The most famous rosé from Rhône is called “Tavel,” produced by Château De Trinquevedel, with its own designated A.O.C. since 1936. Quite an impressive “Grand Cru” – even to the likes of Louis XIV. Mostly composed of Grenache (56 percent) blended with six lesser-known grape varietals (such as Clairette and Bourbelenc), Tavel offers a buttery, strawberry nose and vibrant ruby color. The range of varietals that the winemaker used also are most of those available in this mountainous region, known for its sandy, limestone-rich soil, much like that of Châteauneuf. We have Kermit Lynch, the importer, to thank for drawing our attention to a region of such great, high-quality wines. Some of us may be old enough to remember Ernest Hemmingway’s book, Paris is a Moveable Feast, a memoir on his early years in Paris. While in France, he met F. Scott 12 J u n e 2 0 14 Fitzgerald, whom he purported to be a hypochondriac. A trip to the Rhône was only made palatable by the existing quantities of Tavel Rosé quaffed within a four-day motor trip. Let’s hope that its availability was not the only reason! In the past, I have featured Row Eleven Rosé for Thanksgiving feasts because it is a heavier bodied wine, which pairs well with fowl. With summer here, I have found the deep ruby color an inviting choice for an afternoon delight! The profound strawberry notes, hints of Bing cherries and lots of fresh red berries, all make Row Eleven my favorite rosé…of all! Recently, I’ve been on a quest for the palest rosé possible, with the general assumption that paler equates to better. However, there became such a thing as too pale (83 Tropez, 2012). Row Eleven Rosé is my new not-so-pale rosé, with a dynamic that compliments a casual luncheon, a boating outing with friends, or a special candlelit dinner. Row Eleven’s winemaker, Ricardo de los Reyes, is already known for his Pinot Noirs – a subject he and I chat about on occasion. As our conversations have moved into the realm of rosé, it should be no surprise that Mr. de los Reyes has elaborated a version in which Pinot Noir supplants Grenache as the central component. His reconceptualization is a delicious ruby and rose pedal wine that is neither dry nor sweet…simply perfect for all occasions! I look forward to seeing you some summer evening at 33rd Street Wine Bar to try one of these delightful, refreshing rosés! Salute’ Candace | w w w.
