NAD Tech Tips Birth of a New Generation
NAD Tech Tips Birth of a New Generation 2011 MDC AV Collection NAD Tech Tips Who is NAD? New Acoustic Dimension o o o o Audio industry veterans: manufacturers, retailers, distributors “Music First” philosophy Multi Award winning Well respected brand PERFORMANCE VALUE SIMPLICITY INNOVATION NAD Tech Tips NAD history so far... 1972: Founded by Dr. Martin L. Borish 1978: Developed the 3020 Integrated Amplifier – Best selling integrated amplifier in history 1981: Developed the 6150C Cassette Deck – World’s first cassette deck to feature Dolby C Noise Reduction 1985: Developed the 2200 Power Amplifier – Introduction of NAD’s “Power Envelope” amplifier technology 1998: Developed the T770 AV Receiver – Introduction of NAD’s “EARS”, Enhanced Ambience Retrieval System 1999: Purchased by The Lenbrook Group (Canadian distributor prior) – Sister brand to PSB Speakers Martin Borish, Founder (above right) Bjorn Erik Edvardsen w/ Mr Borish NAD Tech Tips Music First Philosophy • Music reproduction requires a higher level of performance than movie sound effects • Most customers will use their surround system for both music and movies • NAD Design all their products to achieve one goal - realism NAD Tech Tips Modular Design Construction Change, upgrade, customise. It’s up to you. Our Modular Design Construction makes obsolescence a thing of the past. When 3D video and HDMI 1.4 hit the scene, we were ready. We’ll be ready for the next technology change, too. Available on select NAD Receivers and Preamp Processors, this simple upgrade solution features input circuitry on easily removable modules, so you can add, change or customize features and capabilities as they become available. Your system is now upgradeable and future proof. T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips Analogue Design • High current power supplies • All discrete amplifier stages • Independent analogue and digital power supplies • Premium power supplies • Shortened signal paths for reduced signal loss T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips One Cable Solution NAD AV Receivers allow you to input any type of signal (HDMI, composite, component or s-video) and use a ‘one wire’ connection to your TV. NAD leaves the video processing where it belongs, in your display, avoiding multiple format conversions. This allows you to switch both the audio going to your speakers and the picture being sent to your TV with one button on your remote control! T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) NAD have adapted the CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) feature in all their new AV Receivers. CEC is a feature designed to allow the user to command and control two or more CEC-enabled devices, that are connected using HDMI, by only using one of their remote controls. Using the NAD on screen display menu, turn CEC “on” and now you can control your CEC-enabled devices with your NAD remote control. T748 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips 3D Picture Support HDMI 1.4a inputs • • • • • Full 3D support for Blu-ray Full 3D support for broadcast Audio Return Channel (ARC) Deep Colour ‘xvColour” T748 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips High Definition Audio Processing • Dolby TrueHD • dts HD Master audio • Multi channel LPCM 192kHz/24bit T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips EARS Surround sound offers a number of effects (‘Hall’, ‘Stadium’, ‘Church’ modes etc.) that can sound oddly artificial and in our opinion, sound inferior. To keep the sound real the NAD team devised their own music surround mode called Enhanced Retrieval system (EARS). EARS extracts the natural ambience present in nearly all well-produced stereo recordings. It does not synthesise any ambience or other sonic elements and therefore remains truer to the sound of the original musical performance than most other music-surround options. T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips Full Disclosure Power vs Federal Trade Commission – What is the difference? • Full Disclosure of Distortion (Worst Case! <0.08%) • Competitor Distortion Ratings – up to 0.9% • Full Disclosure of Power Bandwidth (20Hz – 20kHZ) • Competitor Power Bandwidth – 1kHz only • Full Disclosure of Power at either Impedance (8 and 4 Ohms) • Competitor Power – rated at 6 and/or 8 Ohms only • Full Disclosure Power Measured with All Channels Driven Simultaneously • Competitor Power – measured with 1 or 2 channels driven • Full Disclosure of Dynamic Power Ratings @ 8, 4 and 2 Ohms • Competitor Dynamic Power – measured at 8 and 6 Ohms only T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips Full Disclosure Power vs Federal Trade Commission – What is the difference? T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips PowerDrive™ To maximise NAD’s real Full Disclosure Power, we’ve developed an amplifier circuit called PowerDrive. Music and films have dynamic passages with everything from a whisper to an explosion. Very little power is required for a whisper, but an explosion demands high-current drive and high dynamic power. To meet such demands, we created our patented PowerDrive amplifier circuit, cementing our reputation for amazingly effective power. By adding a second high voltage rail to our well-regulated, high current power supply, we get ‘overdrive’ that can nearly double the continuous power for a short term. It’s like having turbo boost for your amplifier or receiver. PowerDrive takes the stress out of music and cinematic climaxes by using its incredible power reserves. It also makes our amplifiers and receivers run cooler and more efficiently for greater reliability. T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips Soft Clipping® NAD understand that no matter how much power is provided, there will always be a demand for more. When an amplifier is overdriven – asked to go beyond its capabilities – the result is distortion or ‘clipping’. This can cause damage to your loudspeakers. NAD’s answer to this is the patented NAD Soft Clipping circuit which, when switched on, will gently transform the sound waveform as the point of clipping approaches. The result is much clearer sound reproduction and simultaneous protection of speakers. T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips On Screen Menu NAD AV Receivers are capable of displaying an On Screen Menu via the HDMI, Composite or Component (where applicable) output to your TV. Features include: • Easy navigation • Source setup • Auto microphone setup (T748) • Audyssey (T757 and T775HD2) and speaker setup • Zone controls • iPod setup (with compatible IPD2) T748 T757 T775 HD2 NAD Tech Tips Audyssey MultEQ A patented method that uses a microphone (supplied) and measures the acoustical space to compensate for distortion. MultEQ evaluates everything that causes distortion: frequency response variations and reflections that arrive at different times. AVRs, theatres, cars and studio equipment outfitted with MultEQ use this information to produce a more accurate tonal balance, better bass and more realistic imaging. MultEQ removes distortion so that every audio system – from budget home theatres to world-class cinemas and cars – sounds amazing. Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ These two technologies work together to address the problem of large jumps in volume when switching between different TV channels or when advertisements are inserted into the program. There is also an effect caused by our ears’ different sensation of low and high frequencies at different listening levels: as the volume is reduced our sensation of bass frequencies is reduced more than the midrange frequencies.
