The Faculty of Pedagogy is an institute with a 200-yearlong history in training educators. The aim of the Faculty
is to train professional educators and teachers who will
be conscious of mediating universal and national values,

with kindergarten and primary school teacher training workshops and its effectiveness is indicated by
the results in the Hungarian Scientific Student Research Competition (OTDK) and prizes awarded at
undergraduate research conferences. The Faculty of Pedagogy has its own training institute that has
been functioning in its present form as a kindergarten and primary school since 1998. The hostels of
the Faculty of Pedagogy welcome students and guests in Szarvas. The buildings of the student hostels
are modern and convenient, meet even the highest demands.

LIBRARIES OF THE

The public library operating in one of the buildings in Dóm
tér has a unique role among the libraries of the region.
Its duty is to support the scientific work of the college,
to assist the professional advancement of students and
to serve the religious and spiritual edification of the
priests and the congregation of the Diocese by helping
books. By the joining of the Pedagogical Faculty of
Szarvas, in September of 2014 the Library of Szeged,
so far independent, will continue its work as a library
organisation together with the library of the Faculty of
Szarvas. The Library of Szeged is primarily a special
theological library, collecting theological, i.e. biblical, dogmatic, moral, pastoral and catechetical
documents. Frontier sciences are also represented by books on the themes of philosophy, history,
sociology, ethnography, law, arts, psychology and pedagogy. The main focus of the Library of the
Pedagogical Faculty is on documents belonging to the scope of pedagogy, education and teaching.
The Library of Szeged has nearly 65,000, while the Library of Szarvas some 38,000 books. According
to the types of documents, the collection is composed of books, Hungarian and foreign periodicals,
college theses, CD-ROM’s and some smaller collections of old books.

This course prepares the students for public education,
adult education and for organizing parish duties. The
pastoral assistant specialization qualifies for community
leading and for organizing liturgical, charitable and cultural
activities. The basic courses are Biblical Studies, Church
History, Divinity; ethical, pedagogical and psychological
fundamentals, as well as Adult Education and Social
Studies. The continuation of this training can be an MA programme at Gál Ferenc College: ‘Teacher
Training: Teacher of Religious Education and Boarding School Teacher, Teacher of Ethics’ or ‘Christian
Church and Civilization Studies’ or ‘Pastoral Studies and Caritas Science’.

This programme is aimed at preparing both
seminarists and lay students to take an active
part in the evangelization, the essential mission

This qualification enables the graduates to carry out duties as teachers of Religious Education in
schools and parishes, and to fulfil other jobs with appropriate knowledge of pedagogy, and also
provides opportunities for further PhD studies. You can acquire a teacher qualification to teach one
or two subjects. We also offer these supplementary MA studies for catechist-pastoral assistants and
cantors. It can be a continuation of any other previous university qualification too, so we highly
recommend this course for nursery and primary school teachers. Those who do not have a degree
in Religious Studies, they can finish a minor course for 2 semesters (50 credits). A College degree
(BA) could become a University degree (MA) with a Teacher of Religion degree (60 credits) or a
Certificate in Theology with 90 credits. There is also a possibility to receive another teacher degree
(150 credits).

deep insight into Christian Church history and
related political and cultural issues, the eras of

bachelor’s or master’s degree. In case you do
not have any qualification in previous Religious
Studies, a 50-credit course in Theology needs to
be completed during the first two semesters. We
highly recommend this postgraduate programme
for those, who have a BA degree in the field of Literature, Linguistics, History, Ethnography, History of
Art, Music or Pedagogy. Graduates can use their knowledge in cultural, social, political, educational and
scientific careers, and they have the opportunity for further PhD studies.

Students of the Faculty of Roman Catholic Theology receive a double specialization: Theology
and History or Letters. Within Letters specialization one can choose between Hungarian,
English, German or French languages. Admission is open to any holder of a high-school
certificate, who seeks training as a teacher of religion and history or foreign languages at
the elementary and high-school levels. The Faculty also admits students already holding
a university diploma, whose present career has led them to seek deeper knowledge of
theological issues or non-traditional age students who seek to train for a second career.

The Jesuit University Ignatianum in Krakow is a catholic University with state rights and
follows the worldwide known Jesuit educational tradition of humanistic studies since 1932.
It consists of two faculties. The Faculty of Philosophy offers four majors: philosophy, cultural
