The Approach of the Green Star Hotel Initiative
..........it was actually the tourism sector itself that took action.
Keyplayers of the tourism industry joined forces within the framework of the
develoPPP.de Programme of the BMZ with technical support of the GIZ
2007 the Green Star Hotel Initiative was started
by the end of 2013 the Green Star Hotel Initiative will be implemented on a
national level

environmentally friendly label for hotels
and resorts
National certification and capacity
building programme for the hotel industry
in Egypt, highly accepted on both the

Motivating the Egyptian hotel sector to go „green“
The Green Star Hotel Initiative aims to have a
profound impact on the further development of the
main tourism destinations in Egypt by motivating the
hotel sector to become active and move towards
more sustainability
… becoming a lighthouse for other tourism sectors in Egypt
By starting with the key sector in the Egyptian
tourism industry, the hotel sector, a first step is taken
to make Egypt a sustainable destination
