Spirituality
Dear Sisterhood Members and Prospective Members,
By the time you read this Pesach will be behind us. I
hope all of you enjoyed the holiday and participated in
a Seder with family and/or friends. Additionally, I hope
many of you attended and enjoyed at least one of the
TAE Seders.
And by the time you read this we will also be
Counting the Omer. Just in case you are wondering (as
I was) about what Omer means, this is what I found on
jewfaq.org.:
“According to the Torah (Lev. 23:15), we are obligated to count the days from Passover to Shavu’ot.
This period is known as the Counting of the Omer.
An omer is a unit of measure. On the second day
of Passover, in the days of the Temple, an omer of
barley was cut down and brought to the Temple as
an offering. This grain offering was referred to as
the Omer.”
Currently, Sisterhood is planning our May and June
functions. These include “Making Jewelry” with Sandi
Stern on May 23rd; the Sisterhood Shabbat on June 3rd,
which will most likely include some original readings
and will definitely include Torah reading and drash;
and our Year-End Luncheon on June 26th. Details on
jewelry-making and the Year-End Luncheon can be
found elsewhere in this issue. And REMEMBER: you do
not need to be a member to attend any of these.
Please peruse these pages for things you can do
with Sisterhood and ways you can support Sisterhood.
Almost all of the Sisterhood’s earnings go back to TAE
either directly or indirectly, e.g., contributions to youth
programs, TAE Seniors, etc. Thus, supporting the
Sisterhood of Temple Adat Elohim is also supporting
TAE.

Sisterhood had another very successful Women’s Seder
this year. The service was great and the food from Cielo
was delicious. We would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make this happen, especially the
three people who led the service: Shoshana Fischer, Nancy
Federman, and Marcy Goldberg. We also want to thank
Bianca Weinstein who decorated our room with beautiful
flowers from her garden.

Please consider helping.
Each year 300,000 children across America must be rescued from dangerous
home environments . . .
They frequently enter shelters and foster care with nothing of their own.
My Stuff Bags comfort them with things they need, and things to hold onto.
The My Stuff Bags Foundation provides NEW belongings for neglected and abandoned
children being cared for by the following agencies: child and family social services
agencies, drug and law enforcement agencies, crisis shelters, shelters for battered women,
homeless shelters, foster care agencies, residential care facilities, and CASA organizations
(Court Appointed Special Advocates). Here’s a list of suggested items you can donate:
• Stuffed animals
• Coloring books & crayons
• Small toys for all ages
• School supplies and stationery
• Small toiletries: travel-size toothbrush/toothpaste, hotel soap and shampoo, etc.
• Items for teens/tweens: games, young-adult books, deodorant, makeup, trading cards
• Baby Stuff – rattles, pacifiers, bibs, diapers, baby clothes
• Books, journals, or diaries
• Clothing of all kinds – t-shirts, baseball hats, knit caps, scarves, socks, shoes, underwear
• Hand held games
• Small photo albums
ALL ITEMS MUST BE NEW.
Sisterhood will be collecting these items in the foyer of the Sanctuary the week
before and the week after Mothers Day, May 1–14.

Featured Artist—
Sandi Stern
Sandi is a temple and Sisterhood member and long-time jewelry maker. She began
designing, creating, and selling fun fashion jewelry and embellishing t-shirts and shorts
for her sorority sisters and college friends in the 1980s. After taking several years off from
designing to pursue an education, a career, and start a family, she decided to pick up the
tools again a few years ago. Friends, family, and colleagues took notice, began placing
orders, and a beloved hobby (and small business) was re-born.
