Who were the first sailors? What kind of boats did they have and how did they navigate? How did they find their way and which routes did they use? FIRST SAILORS consists of three 26 minute episodes where many topics about seamanship is discussed. The first episode is named “Uluburun”, the second episode is “From Phokai to Marseilles”, and the third episode is “Cyclades Boats”. Every episode will look for answers on seamanship topics of a different era. On this aspect, the topic “ancient seamanship” will be discussed extendedly. The documentary tells the story of making archeological excavations of underwater wrecks and displaying the findings in the Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum, and, inspired from this exhibition, the story of a group of archeologists who built ancient boats according to their originals and navigating with them. The first episode tells the reconstruction and the ancient route adventures of ULUBURUN shipwreck which is similar to ancient shipwrecks and was reconstructed with experimental archeology methods. Produced by The topic of the second episode is the sailors who were able to flee from Anatolia because of the Persian invasion. This event took place in 600 B.C. and is reanimated by today’s archeologists. The rebuilt ancient boat is named after the Mother Goddess Kybele and the archeologists use Kybele to navigate to Marseilles from Phokai using the route which was used in ancient times. 2012 The third episode tells the story of sea people living in the CYCLADES ARCHIPELAGO in the Aegean Sea, the Cyclades Boats which were built with a stitching technique, and their cultural and political relationships with ancient cities on Anatolian coasts. Against the deceitful allure of the ballpen, and the attractive speed and ease of use of the computer, pen still preserves its standing as an indicator of prestige!... Even against the lazy hands that avoid writing, the pen continues to sustain and increase its importance thanks to those who still cherish its value. The documentary “Master of Inscription” tells the story and the passion of the pen from the view of the poetwriter Sunay Akın, writer Buket Uzuner, writer-architect Aydın Boysan, artists Nezih Danyal and Izel Rozental, journalist Doğan Hızlan, academicians Prof.Dr.Kadir Cangızbay and Prof.Dr.Nazife Güngör along with collectors, stationers and even its repairman. The program shows that although its name resembles a close relation to pencil, pen carries much deeper meanings than simply being a tool of inscription. Produced by Samet UNEY Directed by Sevil UNEY TX Date 2012 1x51' documentary 12 THE CITY AND THE SAGE SEHIR VE BILGE The thirteenth and twentieth centuries are two distinct centuries of the last millennium that have greatly influenced human history - centuries of wars, famines and shifting geographies. Alongside all these abominations, they are also distinguished by the scientists and sages they contributed to human history. Jalal ad-Din Rumi is one such sage, a Sufi raised in the thirteenth century, whose importance cannot be disputed from his century to our own. However, those who have told us about him since the days he was alive have all related their own versions of Rumi. The sage, who put his entire thought and identity on full display in Fih-i Ma Fih and Majalis al-Saba, has come down to us in terms of analyses of the images in his poems. He has been described only in terms of what he produced in the last decade of his 66-year lifespan. Scarcely any mention has been made of the land he was born in, his family or its roots. In this work, our goal has been to seek out the roots from which Rumi drew nourishment. Produced by Hadi SENOL Directed by Hadi SENOL TX Date 2012 1x55' documentary 13 THE LANGUAGE OF THE TATTOO DOVMENIN DILI “The Language of the Tattoo” tries to look at the codes which history, belief and tradition draw on bodies, and to understand and document the language of fading symbols. On the other hand, it looks at what kind of marks these old lines leave on young bodies. Tattoo is the painting on body which has been drawn since past times. Its origin is a tacit communication language, a form of art which is buried deep in history. Sign is older than letter and in the archaic language of tattoo, meanings of symbols are read. The tradition of tattoo carries the signs of beliefs and culture lived thousands of years ago. It is a deep mark left on human body by pain, fear, joy and hope, but mostly desire. These lines that reach today from thousands of years ago, still speak the language of tales, myths and legends in Anatolia, especially in Mesopotamia, in Urfa, Viranşehir and Mardin for instance. While the marks of old times on old bodies are being erased quietly, new marks, new paintings appear on younger bodies. Produced by Mihriban SEZEN, Yesim SONMEZ Directed by Mihriban SEZEN TX Date Do these new signs, which appear to be strangers to the history of these lands, create a new language that turns its face to the West? In the sense of their equivalences in life and the meanings they bear, do the traditional lines of sacred, belief, and desire and the rough and colorful paintings that resemble the chaos of modern life separate or join together? THE LANGUAGE OF THE TATTOO seeks answers to all of these questions. 2012 2x24' documentary 14 THE MYSTERY ON THE HILL TEPEDEKI SIR A professional 'Research' turns into an unexpected Produced by 'Search', during a journey of mystery.
