PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Every once in a while I hear comments
about how it seems that the same people
are always on the Board. Sometimes it
seems like that to me too. I have been on
the Board for 5 years and will be for at
least one more. It has been suggested that
I describe the nomination process for Club
officers and provide some insight into what
is required.
received at the November meeting, an election is held and ballots are distributed at
least 14 days before the annual meeting.
An election committee is formed and ballots must be received two days before the
annual meeting. The committee reports the
results of the election at the annual meeting.
It has become traditional to ask Board
members if they want to become part of the
progression through the Vice President
positions and serve as President. This can
take from 4-6 years. During this time people in those positions are responsible for
overseeing the organization of events, dealing with the national organization on issues
of insurance and rule changes, and keeping
an eye on the financial health and goals of
the region.
RMR is governed by a Constitution and
By-Laws. These provide details on how
the Board is to be structured. There are
prescribed positions of President, 1st Vice
President, 2nd Vice-President, Treasurer,
Secretary, Newsletter Editor, Membership
Chairman, and Past President. All terms are
limited to 2 years with the exception of
Newsletter Editor and Membership
Chairman. The President appoints people
to chair a number of committees that report
to the board and aid tremendously in the
running of the club.
Each year a Nominating committee is
appointed by the Board to select potential
candidates for the following year. The
Nominating committee is comprised of the
President, the immediate Past President and
one or more other active members. We
have traditionally appointed two members
who are not presently on the Board. The
nominating committee reports their suggested candidates at the October membership meeting and announces them in the
October Newsletter. Additional nominations may be made at the November membership meeting. If there are no additional
nominations, a motion will be made to confirm the election of the nominated candidates at the November meeting and no further election is required. The candidates
are then installed at the December annual
meeting which is our December holiday
party. If additional nominations are
of service. It is vital to have someone who
remembers what we have to do each year
and what we did in the past when confronted with a recurring issue. One of the reasons I am only going to serve as your
President for one year is to facilitate the
addition of new members and expedite the
progression of the Vice Presidents.
Candidates for Board positions must be
able to attend Board meetings once a
month and be available, within reason, to
respond to matters concerning the Club at
other times. Candidates must have been
involved with the Club's activities for a
sufficient time to know what we do and,
perhaps more importantly, what we have
done and why. Involvement and attendance at Club meetings and events is vital.
Positions such as Newsletter Editor and
Treasurer also require expertise in the area
of their responsibilities. We try to make
the Board representative of the membership
and welcome "new blood." This year
David Speights has been new in the position as Secretary and he has been a very
valuable Board member. During my
tenure on the Board I have begun to appreciate the benefits of continuity and length
We have many standing committees which
are a great place to start to be more
involved and to develop experience in what
the Club needs to do to put on events and
continue to function. Also, being an event
chair person or assisting at the event are
great ways to learn what goes on and to
show the involvement, commitment and
experience the Nominating Committee
looks for in potential candidates for Board
positions.
This is a totally volunteer organization and
there is lots of room for anyone who wants
to help. If you or someone you know are
interested in serving on the board, or helping in another capacity, contact me by
phone or email or call Kathy Fricke 303499-6540. I hope to see you at our next
events.

MEMBERSHIP MESSAGES
Welcome to new and returning members! I can hardly believe how fast the summer is going by - I've barely got the
new tires on my car! All the new members should plan to try at least one event this summer - whether it be a track
event, tour or autocross, or even just attend a membership meeting. If you've never done an event before and
aren't sure how to sign up, what to bring, what to do when you get there, call the event chair, registrar or any board
member - we'd like to see you out there! Feel free to call me at (303)554-7464 or email [email protected] with
any questions, problems, or suggestions. Tamela

C ALLING
ALL CLUB MEMBERS …
Calling all club members…..
It is time again this year to help your fellow club members by volunteering at the
ONLY National Club Race held in
Colorado.
Rocky Mountain Region is proud to present the 13th annual "First Ever Anywhere"
Club Race held at Pueblo Motorsports Park
on September 11th and 12th.
We need help this year (ok every year) due
to a conflicting schedule with the Vintage
club.
It takes many Porsche enthusiasts and volunteers to make a Club Race successful. If
you would like to get involved, please volunteer for a day or more. Lunch and lodging is provided for Corner Workers, Start,
Pit & Grid, and Hot Pit Workers. If you
work on Saturday then Friday night is paid
for, if you work on Sunday then Saturday
night is paid for, if you work Saturday and
Sunday…. Well you get the drift…..
Come down for the Drivers’ Education
event on Friday and stay to help out for the
weekend. Where else are you going to see
so many fabulous cars and people in one
spot enjoying what we all do so much.
If you desire to room with someone other
than another corner worker (or no one) you
will need to make your own hotel arrangements and the club will reimburse you up
to what it would have cost for an RMR
shared room.
The volunteer form can be found on the
web at HTTP://www.pca.org/rmr, click on
the Club Racing link, or you can contact
our corner worker chair directly and he can
get all your vitals: Richard Martin 303779-1492.
We need all the help we can get this year
so please volunteer early and get all your
friends to volunteer also. For any questions
you can call Richard Martin or the Club
race chairs, Jeff & Tricia Mitchell @ 303463-7668. [email protected]
F UTURE D RIVING
I NSTRUCTORS

will be qualified within the next year, we
will be happy to give you some advance
training and facilitate the process for you.

Education then Driving Instructor
Requirements or contact David Rossiter at

Audi R8 and RS6 drivers JJ Lehto and
Marco Werner will be at an Open House
sponsored by Prestige Imports the evening
of Tuesday, July 27th, from 5:30 until 8:00
PM. The drivers will be signing autographs, and the cars will be on display.
Also, earlier in the day, they’ll be out at
Second Creek for a fund raiser for the new
track. They’ll drive you and your car several laps around Second Creek (for a
$100.00 donation to the track fund). Log
on to www.prestigeimports.net for further
details as we get closer to the date.

Club Race DE
Here's an early reminder of the Drivers’
Education day before the September Club
Race. This year, we don't have to worry
about black cats and Friday the Thirteenth
stuff. Rick Goncalves and Michael Martin
will be organizing the event this year. Look
in future newsletters for more information.
Be sure to sign up for this event where you
can share the track with some of the the
National Club Racers. Who knows, some
of their racing enthusiasm might rub off
and you might find yourself taking the
plunge into racing sometime in the future.
Due to a shortage of instructors, we do ask
that anyone interested in signing up for
drivers’ education on this day have had
completed at least one other drivers' education weekend prior to this one.
Watch for more information, sign up and
stay the entire weekend, volunteer to work
the club race, and be a part of the action!!

21 YEARS AND COUNTING
21 ST A NNUAL E XOTIC S PORTS C AR S HOW
By: Lynn Scott
It's rather hard to believe that this special
event has been such a success for all these
years: 21!!! The gate receipts are getting
bigger each year so it's plain to see that the
public is really becoming more aware of
what a fine show this is and they surely
don't want to miss it.
This year's car show was spectacular
thanks to all of you who brought your fine
automobiles out for another wonderful day
under the sun. It was a little warm this
year --- but no rain, hail, wind, or tornadoes, and for your efforts you are owed a
great debt of gratitude. The Children's
Program of Cerebral Palsy of Colorado is
the beneficiary of our dedication and,
because they can't always be there to say it,
--- THANK YOU to each and every one of
you. That's saying a lot of "thank you's",
as there were over 260 cars this year
which, and as you know, represents hours
and hours of preparation.
The 2004 Car Show raised over $ 47,000
gross, and $ 38,000 net for the children's
program. Let us never forget that we are
giving back to the community what has
been so generously bestowed upon each of
us. We should all be very pleased that we
were able to contribute so much for these
very special children. What could be more
worthy than spending time outside on a
beautiful day, appreciating fine automobiles
AND
C ONCOURS
D 'E LEGANCE
of every year and type, and commensurating with friends of like minds, all the while
helping those little ones? Well - not much!
So please don't get tired of the applause you deserve it!
The Car Show Committee always works
very hard to have things run as smoothly as
possible. This year was no exception. The
new Chairs were Jim and Debbie Walters
and they did a fabulous job. Thanks to
both of you for a job well done. Along
with Deb and Jim, the committee is comprised of 11 various local car club representatives and three staff members of CP of
Colorado, in particular, Sandy Mariani - a
special, special thank you. You made
everyone on the committee appreciate you
so much for all your hard work and tremendous skills. The committee members are:
Chairpersons, Jim and Debbie Walters,
again a wonderful job; Corporate
Sponsorship was comprised of Phil Doty,
Bob Lewis and Mike Norris who through
their fine efforts raised $ 23,420, Jerry
and Mary Ellen Hoffman who did a
tremendous job setting up the site, which is
always a difficult job, and organized the
food services - good job you two; Stim
Kennedy who was responsible for the great
array of cars for the Special Interest
Display, the "Founder's Favorites," which
are always a crowd pleaser; and to Tom
Scott for his concern for this special event
and his ever-watchful eye over everything
including scoring and awards. Again this
M OST S UCCESSFUL
year, Rex Lindgren provided the sound system and manned the mike for announcements throughout the day. And a special
thanks to Jim Everson, Andy Forberg and
the RMR Board of Directors for their support.
Believe me, this show could not go on
without all of the special and hard working
volunteers to include the 62 RMR entrants,
the many RMR volunteers, and especially
the RMR judges, without whom this event
could not function. And speaking of judges
- you all deserve a special hand because
first of all you all look so "professional" in
your white coats - but also because this
year it was particularly hot. You did the
judging in record time and it was greatly
appreciated. It is because of all of the fine
volunteers and because of YOU and your
fine automobile that draws the crowds that
makes this event as special as it is and has
been for the past 21 years. So A VERY,
VERY HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO
EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO
THE SUCCESS OF THIS VERY SPECIAL EVENT!
Congratulations to all of the entrants
because just contributing your time and
effort makes every one of you a winner.
The Porsche Owner's and Judges' choice
for their favorite Porsche was Dave Petitti
with his 1993 968 Coupe. Congratulations!

The Spring Rally started out in Castle Rock on what looked like a
beautiful day. Little did the teams know what was in store for
them. First, there was nice top down driving. Then one group of
check point workers got lost. (Now we know why they worked
instead of driving the rally.) After lunch the rally continued into a
driving blizzard. Who remembered to bring their snow tires? The
signs were covered with snow. And, trying to drive the called for
speed became impossible. Most everyone eventually found their
way to Parker and a chance to warm up with some food and spirits.

Because of problems with the weather and some of the check

participants and workers one challenge series participation point.
Thanks, to all whole helped set up the rally and those who endured
it.
