WES MONTGOMERY ONE NIGHT IN INDY
Never before released 1959 recordings of Wes Montgomery live in Indianapolis with
legendary Chicago pianist Eddie Higgins. While the drummer of Eddie Higgins Trio on
this session is known to be Walter Perkins, who played with Ahmad Jamal before Vernell
Fournier joined the trio, the bassist has remained unidentified.

Complete Live at the Café Montmartre
This release presents all existing music taped by the Cecil Taylor Trio live at
Copenhagen’s Cafe Montmartre, some of which was included on the LPs “Live! At the
Cafe Montmartre” (Debut [Denmark] DEB138), and “Nefertiti – The Beautiful One Has
Come” (Fontana 888.609). These are the only recordings by this group with good sound
quality and nearly the only preserved work by Taylor as a leader during 1962. Following
this LP, the pianist wouldn’t record again until July of 1965.
As a bonus, the rest of Taylor’s recordings as a leader from 1962: three long tracks
privately taped at Stockholm’s Golden Circle also in November. They present the same
trio plus bassist Kurt Lindstrom and appear here on CD for the first time ever!! Included
here are Taylor’s only existing versions of the standards “What’s New?” (two readings)
and “Flamingo”.

This release presents all known existing Birdland broadcasts from the formative stages of the Dave Brubeck Quartet (1951-52). The band
heard on these long out of print sets features Wyatt Ruther on bass and Herb Barman on drums, and the repertoire consists of tunes
Brubeck and Desmond would rarely play in later years. The CD also includes Brubeck & Desmond’s never before released 1955 Newport
concert in its entirety, this contains the late night jam session, on which such guests as Clifford Brown, Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, and
Max Roach joined the band for a thrilling reading of “Tea for Two”.

This spectacular 106-track set presents Parker’s complete recording
sessions for Ross Russell’s Dial label. Included here are some of
Bird’s most admired sides, such as A Night in Tunisia, Cool Blues
and All the Things You Are, as well as the troubled Lover Man session, after which the saxophonist suffered a mental breakdown.
Also issued on Dial was the so-called Home-Cooking date, an amateur recording made right after Bird left the Camarillo psychiatric
hospital (the session is presented here in its entirety, including the
complete version of I Got Rhythm for the first time ever).
As a bonus, three additional complete Charlie Parker sessions from
the same period, which were originally issued under the names of
Sarah Vaughan (including a vocal version of Lover Man”that predates
the instrumental one), a legendary date with Dizzy Gillespie, pianist
Clyde Hart and singer Rubberlegs Williams, and an extremely rare
(and now newly remastered) studio date recorded on test glass acetates but never commercially issued, featuring Bird with trombonist/
singer Clyde Bernhardt, and pianist Jay McShann.

Complete Savoy Sessions

Alto saxophonist Charlie Parker (1920-1955) was among the most
influential jazz artists ever, and one of the few indisputable geniuses of his time. This remarkable 137-track set presents the
complete sessions (including all of the master, alternative, and incomplete takes) he recorded in the studio for Herman Lubinsky’s
Savoy label. Some of Bird’s most admired sides are contained on
this edition, such as “Koko”, “Parker’s Mood”, and “Donna Lee”.
One session presents him on tenor sax, an instrument on which
he only rarely recorded.
All other studio sessions originally recorded by other small labels during that period but later acquired and reissued by Savoy
have also been included here. As a bonus, this set presents four
additional complete Charlie Parker sessions which find him in the
company of such stars as Dexter Gordon, Sarah Vaughan and
Teddy Wilson, plus an extremely rare 1950 date privately recorded as a kind of demo.

Complete Studio Recordings
Probably no team of singer/tenor saxophonist is better known
than the one formed by the inimitable Billie Holiday and Lester
Young. Between 1937 and 1941, they recorded a series of superb
small group sessions, most of them under the musical direction
of pianist Teddy Wilson. This set compiles all of them, including
every master and known alternate take, as well as all of their other
studio dates together: a three-tune 1949 session for Decca, and
their 1957 Columbia recording of “Fine and Mellow.

The Complete Satchmo Plays King Oliver

FOR THE FIRST TIME ON CD
In September-October 1959, the great Louis Armstrong recorded an
album paying homage to his mentor and first employer, the legendary cornetist Joe “King” Oliver (1885-1938). This gave Louis and his
All Stars the opportunity to explore some tunes the trumpeter had
never recorded before, and some others he had not played in decades. The LP,”Satchmo Plays King Olive”r (Audio- Fidelity AFSD-5930),
was wonderfully recorded in stereo (which was a new technology at
the time), providing us an amazing perspective of Armstrong’s pure
sound.
This release put together all of the songs recorded by Satch during
the sessions, as well as all known alternate takes (on CD2). To fill out
the set, seven additional King Oliver or Oliver-related tunes had been
added taped by Louis during the mid-fifties, as well as, in the few
cases in which he had previously recorded them, Armstrong’s original
versions of tunes from the Audio Fidelity album, and his classic 1928
versions of King Oliver’s “Weather Bird” and “West End Blues”.

Roach-Clifford Brown Quintet’s albums “Study in Brown” (EmArcy

consists of the original contents of both albums, complemented by

are among the most treasured gems in jazz history.
The booklet includes current as well as original liner notes, rare original Down Beat reviews, and the complete Clifford Brown Blindfold
Test, conducted by Leonard Feather in Down Beat shortly before the
trumpeter’s tragic death.

This release presents all of the existing material related to the legendary
1956 Newport performance by the great Duke Ellington. This was the
classic concert which Ellington compared to being born again in the
public’s mind, and at which alto saxophonist Paul Gonsalves excelled
playing chorus after chorus on “Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue”.
While that live performance was utilized on the original LP “Ellington at
Newport” (Columbia CL-934), the rest of the tracks there belonged to a
studio session made two days after the actual show. This edition presents
first the complete live concert, followed by the studio tracks.
As a bonus, a complete March 1956 studio session, as well as three extremely rare tracks from a broadcast at the Blue Note, in Chicago,recorded
by the band nearly three months before the Newport event.

first jazz recordings to be universally considered as classics.
The most comprehensive set so far, our 4-CD collection also contains all of
Louis’ complementary recordings from that period on which other members
of the Hot Five and Hot Seven were present. The sessions by the Carroll Dickerson band, Johnny Dodds Black Bottom Stompers, and singer Lillie Delk
Thomas, for instance, complete Armstrong’s sides with Earl Hines from this

“THE 2 CD VERSION (The new and previously unreleased part!)” It’s
possible to hear on this newly presented 2CD set how the album might
have gone even further. Although they had the music in the can from the
first day (the music on A Love Supreme was recorded on a single day,
December 9, 1964), Coltrane wanted to try something else.
So on December 10, he called the young tenor saxophonist Archie
Shepp, and a second bassist, Art Davis to play with his quartet.
The six musicians then ran through two versions of “A Love Supreme”’
opening “Acknowledgment”, so that Coltrane could explore what
the music might sound like with another horn and additional low-end
rhythm.
