Meeting Change - Trinity International College
Vol 8 No 9 May 2016 TRINITY News Vol 8 No 9 Education for the Future May 2016 c A New urve Meeting Change Over a year of unsettling uncertainty, and ceaseless effort, has passed . . . Maybe, deserving young scholars can now settle for a brighter future. Turmoil – natural and man-made – could not shatter our innate individual, social, and national commitment to service and achievement. We Trinitians worked together this difficult period to make it eventually fruitful. Our collaboration with different service providers of society has been commendable – be it post-quake assistance or regular social work such as organizing a rather big blood donation campaign in the College premises. During this time, the Nepalese educational pathway too went through many twists and turns; it is now curving towards a terrain which is yet to be truly appreciated . . . With our society grappling with the massive shift in the national high school education evaluation system, alongside its implications for the secondary and tertiary levels, the commonly known metaphor of the SLC being an iron gate is somewhat out of place. Factsheet Trinity, as a highly responsible socio-educational entity, is working hard to comprehend these scholastic changes, and their implications, to benefit its students. We are committed to superlative academic delivery that prepares students for success in a competitive future. Simultaneously, we are doing our best to adapt to the new system of national education and its assessment criteria. Academically, despite the ups and downs of the months gone by along with the major ongoing alterations in the established SLC system, Trinity has been doing consistently well in meeting its objectives. The credit for this goes to hard working Trinity students and the Trinity community as a whole – managers, faculty, staff, parents, and guardians. The College continues to sustain the positive pursuits of sincere students by an outstanding scholarship scheme, most effective academic delivery, and a studentcentred support system that also includes extra-tutorials, personalized guidance, and relevant career counseling. In reality, gearing up to tackle ongoing changes in fields that evidently affect our students is the corner-stone of our College policy. Efforts are made to address all pertinent issues and to get prepared for contingencies. Trinity will continue to help its current or prospective students, and thereby society at large, to the best of its abilities. Such events orient our students towards meeting expectations and develop personalities that are distinct, engaging, and positive. This feature of the College is the extra edge that sustains our students wherever they study or work. That is why those who join us soon appreciate why being at Trinity is so special and so helpful. Orientation Programmes Trinity Orientation Programmes – initiation events that familiarize students with their peers, faculty & staff members of the College – are conducted before the commencement of each academic session for HSEB +2, Cambridge International A Levels & First Year students of undergraduate programmes (BSc CSIT, BBS & BA). During these key events held coursewise, students become familiar with the approach of the College towards their education, what it would deliver towards that end, and an outline of what’s expected. The primary purpose is to help new students understand the nature of the College, the educational opportunities available to them, institutional teaching-learning styles, the values and functions of the College community, and the central objective of the academic endeavour. During the orientation programme, students are also informed about all services and facilities including clubs and societies offered by the College as well as students’ rights and responsibilities. July 5 & 16, 2015 Essentially, the programmes initiate new students into the academic, cultural, and social ethos of Trinity and develop a sense of belonging to the Trinity family. Welcome Programme August 28, 2015 Welcome programmes at Trinity are organized by senior students for their newly- inducted juniors. Senior students candidly exchange their experience at the College and exhibit their talent in diverse ways such as speeches, songs, instrumental music, dance, drama, and even humorous caricature. This enables the newcomers to feel even more at home in the still-new College for them and thereby become an integral part of the student community. These programmes are an extremely refreshing experience for all concerned – students, teachers, staff members – due to the enjoyable recreational activities and memorable hospitality offered by the College at select venues. Such programmes greatly unify the Trinity Family giving it a cherished distinctiveness! +2 Orientation Programme Cambridge International A Level Orientation Programme Career Counseling Symposium January 4, 2016 Our Symposium helps individual students figure out who they are and what they want out of their education, career, and life. Having a career choice in mind steers a student’s search for the right college majors, which, in turn, guides the choice of the right college. It’s been seen that career-focused students are confident, motivated to persist, and earn their degrees on time. Counseling related to this Symposium covers further studies options, institutional search, scholarships or grants, and career exploration. Organized by the Counseling department, this programme is meant for both current students and Trinity alumni. USEF, Campus France, British Council representatives and Medicine, SciTech, Engineering, Management professionals tell students about further studies’ and future careers’ prospects in Nepal and abroad. All in all, Trinity’s Career Counseling Symposium provides valuable opportunities for students. Academic Excellence Awards November 18, 2015 & February 26, 2016 Committed to academic excellence and all-round personal development, Trinity invariably identifies and suitably awards its overall and subject toppers. Grade XI & XII students who do well in the HSEB +2 Examinations are given Academic Excellence Awards in rousing functions. Similarly, we hold biannual functions for awarding the academic achievement of A Level students in the CIE through Academic Excellence Awards. The Roll of Honour, updated annually, is where the names of the top achievers are proudly and prominently displayed so that other students are motivated to perform as well as they can and to stimulate the overall academic milieu. Graduation Programme An annual celebration, the Graduation Ceremony is open to all students graduating during the academic year. This occasion is a solemn yet warm farewell. Important aspects of the programme are keynote addresses by eminent academicians that highlight immediate educational, career, and life prospects for Trinity graduates. Further, valedictory speeches bind all those present to the unforgettable Trinity experience.
