We had great attendance and activity at the Club in February, and we will work to ensure we can have this level of activity and interest going forward. “We’ve cut expenses and seen more efficiency in our operations” Please note that there has been a change of date for the event! SAVE THE DATE: Ellendale’s 50th Anniversary Bash Saturday, May 14th, 2016 More Details to Come! Our social committee met again in the month of February, and we decided on changing the date of our 50th Anniversary celebration to the weekend of May 14th. So mark your calendars (again). What we decided is to have more of a ‘family fun day’ event, with this event officially kicking off Summer at Ellendale. We’ll open the pool, have festivities for the kids during the day, and then have a nice party that Saturday night for the adults. We’ll also look to incorporate free green fees for guests that come to the party Saturday night. Finally, our annual couples scramble will be held on that Sunday. We not only want to celebrate, but also, showcase our Club that weekend. So start thinking about who you would like to bring out that weekend, whether they are former members, or prospective members that have not seen our Club in action. Our membership level is currently 423. We will be looking to do a membership drive in the Spring, so be on the lookout for those details. Once those details come out, it is up to you, the members, to spread the word on the specials we’ll have for our new members. I hope this, along with guests seeing our facilities during our anniversary weekend (or any other weekend for that matter) will help to move our membership levels in the other direction. We’ve cut expenses and seen more efficiency in our operations, but we also need to improve our Club’s revenues, and there is no easier way than to increase the amount of members at Ellendale. From a financial perspective, January was a more challenging month compared to the last few, as we had a tremendous amount of rainfall and colder temperatures. You could see this reflected in our financials, as green fee and cart fee income were a combined $10,721 less than January of 2015. Pro Shop sales were also down just under $7,000. We also had a large inventory purchase in the pro shop of roughly $29,000 (which under the way we account for pro shop inventory, we expense the full inventory purchase at that time, rather than at the point of sale). Because of these factors, we had earnings (loss) before depreciation of ($28,540) for the month of January. Normalizing our inventory expense, combined with a smaller extraordinary charge that was recognized in January, we were only $250 off of the number I projected for January, which was a slight loss. There were positives in January, however. Adjusting for the large inventory purchase, our operating expenses improved over $20,000 compared to the month of January, 2015. Also, our Food & Beverage Dept. had an operating profit of just under $10,000. Finally, as of 1/31/16, our cash balance was $257,987. In the last newsletter, I mentioned that we were likely going to proceed with the bulkhead project on #6. We have voted to proceed with this project, and hope to get that completed in the next couple of weeks so that it is completed prior to the start our tournament season. It should only take a few days once the project begins, so we appreciate your patience in advance for this necessary, minor, and very temporary inconvenience. Even with the difficulties we are facing in our economy, our Club continues to head in the right direction. I appreciate all of your feedback, and encourage it going forward. I hope to see all of you at Ellendale, and if there is something we can do to improve your experience as a member, let us know! The 2016 MGA season is underway beginning with our Superbowl Scramble which took place on February 6th. Our first gross winners were Sean Brown & Allen Crane. Our first net winners were Scott Gautreaux & James Champagne. Both teams deserve our applause for braving the cold weather. I would also like to mention the success of the Glow Ball tournament on the 26th which had more than 50 participants. This event followed the Seafood night which tests the old adage of “too much of a good thing”… From what I understand, that old adage of excess was said by someone who hadn’t experienced Joe’s crawfish or our passion for golf after dark. Congrats to Whitney Weaver & Mark Fanguy for their victory. Looking forward; our March event is the MGA Shamble tournament held on March 12th at 8am. The format will be two-man teams sharing the best drive from the team and using the best individual score counting as the team score. Net & Gross prizes awarded. We look forward to seeing you out there. Last but not least, the sign up for the match play competition is posted in the proshop. Please sign up before it’s too late. The MGA will host the 26th annual Ellen- On Course, Stacey Hudson Spring is right around the corner; hopefully, it brings good weather for golfing and our members can enjoy the club. February has been a wet one with over 7 inches of rain being recorded. After sixteen straight days of carts being on paths, we were finally able to go 90 degrees. Our greens have held up well with the colder temperatures and wet conditions. We are spraying the greens weekly with micro -nutrients and also doing a light topdressing to provide a better putting surface. The bunker project is coming along well. We have completed all front nine bunkers and have begun work on the back nine. You will see a huge difference in the playability of the bunkers that we have completed thus far. The Bathrooms on the course are receiving a face-lift. We are currently in the process of painting them green to give them a better appearance. Our electric drainage and siphoning pump was removed last week for repair. We hope to have it repaired and installed in the coming weeks. Overall I am pleased with the condition of the course. Lastly, I would like to thank one of our board members, Jack Clements, for his donation of a John Deere zero turn mower to the club. Having an extra mower will be a huge asset to us as the growing season is approaching. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions feel free to contact the maintenance department at 985-851-1376. dale Spring Classic 4-Ball on April 30th and May 1st.
