SUNDAY, MAY 6 Borsheims Shopping Day When one of Borsheims’ best jewelry salesmen works the sales floor only one day a year, you don’t want to miss it! After a record-setting hour of selling last year, we’ve asked Warren Buffett to extend his time on the sales floor this year. Come to Borsheims during Sunday’s shareholder-only shopping day and you may just get the sales pitch from the Oracle of Omaha himself. Catch him in a moment of weakness and get his “crazy Warren” price. See one-of-a-kind jewelry, watches and gift items brought in just for Berkshire shareholders by the world’s leading designers. The store opens at 9am with complimentary brunch and continues with world-champion activities at 1pm. Two-time U.S. chess champion Patrick Wolff, top bridge experts Bob Hamann and Sharon Osberg, and magician Norman Beck will all be ready to take on and entertain shareholders. Gorat’s One of Warren’s favorite steakhouses will open Sunday for a private shareholder event. Dinner will be served from 1-10pm but not for those without a reservation! To get one, call 402/551-3733 on April 1 (but not before). If they happen to be booked on Sunday, try them on any other evening you are in town They are open on Friday and Saturday from 4 - 11pm. Piccolo’s Another favorite steakhouse of Warren’s is Piccolo’s. Piccolo’s will open at 4pm on Sunday. They are currently taking reservations, call 402/342-9038. They are also open on Friday from 5 - 10pm and Saturday 4:30 - 10pm. Don’t forget to order Warren’s favorite giant root beer float! 4 IMPORTANT NOTES Breakfast & Lunch Fare A continental breakfast will be served from the concession stands on Saturday morning at the CenturyLink Center. In addition to the concession stands in the Arena, there are three located in the Convention Center (Exhibit Hall). Lunch will also be available for purchase from all the concession stands. Cameras/Recording Equipment/Cell Phones Taking photographs and recording audio or video while the annual meeting is in session (including the movie portion), is strictly prohibited. This includes the use of cell phones for these purposes. This policy will be rigorously enforced. Offenders are subject to equipment confiscation, meeting credential revocation, and dismissal from the meeting. Americans With Disabilities Act The CenturyLink Center Omaha is a public facility subject to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The facility is accessible to disabled patrons, as required by the ADA and applicable regulations. An ADA entrance is located in the Main Arena Lobby on the 10th Street side of the building. ADA seating is available on the main floor, as well as locations throughout the arena. Event Staff personnel will be available to direct you. ADA parking is located in the parking garage as well as lots B, D, E, F and G. “Mini” Meetings Located in the Exhibit Hall, there will be areas for you to watch the annual meeting live while you shop the day of the meeting. Large screens will be displayed with open seating for your enjoyment. The Bookworm (www.BookwormOmaha.com) The Bookworm will be back with more than 35 books and DVDs for you to choose from. Shareholders receive a 20% discount. Shipping service is available. Shipping Service Our on-site shipping service will be back and we encourage you to take advantage of the convenience of shopping heavily and traveling home light! Located next to the Show Office in the Exhibit Hall, you may have all your purchases packed and shipped right on the spot! Please note that there is a charge for this service and it will be limited to the items purchased the day of the meeting. 5 Student Seating Due to increasing attendance numbers, and in order to not impose on our shareholders priority seating in the Arena, we are asking the students to view the meeting from the Grand Ballroom at the Omaha Hilton. We have made arrangements for a live broadcast (including the company movie) to the ballroom.* When the meeting adjourns for the lunch break, students are welcome to join the shareholders at the CenturyLink Center. *The student section will not be set up to participate in the Q&A. Seat Saving We have received complaints from some shareholders about excessive seat saving in the Arena the morning of the meeting. Reserving a few seats for your group is certainly acceptable, but blocking off entire rows is unfair to the other shareholders. Security will assist in enforcing this policy. Travel In order to obtain the best rates and airfare, we recommend making all travel arrangements for the meeting as early as possible. If you need assistance in arranging lodging, we suggest you contact Travelink American Express. Travelink American Express 866/301-3011 615/367-4900 (outside the U.S.) [email protected] F.A.Q.’s • The dress code for the weekend is casual. • There will be no annual reports at the meeting. • It is typically sunny and in the high 60’s to low 70’s with an average low of 45. While snow is not likely, rain showers are a possibility. • It is not necessary to pay the downtown parking meters on Saturday. • The 2013 annual meeting will be on Saturday, May 4. 6 Q & A PERIOD A Message From Your Chairman... Financial journalists from organizations representing newspapers, magazines and television will participate in the question-and-answer period, asking Charlie and me questions that shareholders have submitted by e-mail. The journalists and their e-mail addresses are: Carol Loomis, of Fortune, who may be emailed at [email protected]; Becky Quick, of CNBC, at [email protected], and Andrew Ross Sorkin, of The New York Times, at [email protected]. From the questions submitted, each journalist will choose the dozen or so he or she decides are the most interesting and important. (In your e-mail, let the journalist know if you would like your name mentioned if your question is selected.) This year we are adding a second panel of three financial analysts who follow Berkshire. They are Cliff Gallant of KBW, Jay Gelb of Barclays Capital and Gary Ransom of Dowling and Partners. This group will bring their own Berkshirespecific questions and alternate with journalists and the audience. Neither Charlie nor I will get so much as a clue about the questions to be asked. We know the journalists and analysts will pick some tough ones and that’s the way we like it. We will have a drawing at 8:15 at each of the 13 microphones for those shareholders wishing to ask questions themselves. At the meeting, I will alternate the questions asked by the journalists and analysts with those from the winning shareholders. Microphone Manners When asking a question from a microphone zone, please: • State your name and hometown. • Ask your question promptly — speak loud & clear. • Do not ask more than one question or attempt to “bundle” several questions together. • Do not ask what we are buying or selling. Even if the information is public, we do not discuss how we arrive at our decisions. Any other subjects are fair game. 7 PARKING N DOWNTOWN HOTELS E W GENERAL PARKING ENTRANCES S Homewood Suites by Hilton Omaha Downtown Hampton Inn and Suites Omaha Downtown 12t h S T R E E T Holiday Inn Downtown Omaha 14t h S T R E E T 15t h S T R E E T 16t h S T R E E T Fairfield Inn and Suites Omaha Downtown to ING ST RE B or BO t T Ameritrade park CASS S T R E E T LOT E LOT G C A P I T O L AV E N U E 11t h S T R E E T Hilton Garden Inn Omaha Downtown/Old Market 10t h S T R E E T LOT H 13t h S T R E E T 14t h S T R E E T 15t h S T R E E T ONE WAY ONE WAY ONE WAY DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Omaha Downtown 12t h S T R E E T 16t h S T R E E T C A P I T O L AV E N U E 10-MINUTE PARKING Hilton Omaha LOT F LOADING DOCK CASS S T R E E T PASSENGER PICK-UP/DROP OFF LOT B 480 E MECA DRIVE TWO WAY TWO WAY CALIFORNIA S T R E E T V LOT D LOT C M I K E FA H E Y S T R E E T M I K E FA H E Y S T R E E T DOUGLAS S T R E E T RI ET OMAHA DODGE S T R E E T D 10t h S T R E E T 13t h S T R E E T B U RT S T R E E T rp A CUM CUMING S T R E E T ai GARAGE LOT A PA S S E N G E R P I C K - U P / D R O P O F F Courtyard by Marriott Omaha Downtown 480 ONE WAY • CenturyLink parking lots will open at 5am • CenturyLink surface lots $8 • CenturyLink parking garage $12 8 Please do not park in the lots of downtown businesses.
