2 Theory of Operation
2.1 General
An air compressor in the unit distributes air pressure through a series of hoses. The hoses
are connected to a special sleeve that contains up to 24 pressure cells.
The massage treatment cycle is unidirectional, originating at the lower part of the limb
and progressing towards the center of the body. The inflation and emptying cycle allows
application of pressure on the limbs without causing any discomfort to the patient.
2.2 Electric/Pneumatic System
(See Figure 3 and also Figure 4).
□ The Pump (5) supplies air pressure.
□ Solenoid valve (7) is the outlet valve. It functions also as a safety valve, and it is a
normally-open valve, which ensures that pressure does not remain in the system in
case of electrical power failure.
□ A relief valve (6) (preset to 150 mmHg), which is connected to the pressure outlet of
the compressor, ensures that the pressure in the system never rises over this limit.
□ Solenoid valve (8) selects the air inlet from outside (via silencer) for inflation cycles
or from the garment (via the distributor) for Active Deflation (at the end of treatment).
□ Solid State Relay - SSR (4) switches On and Off the Pump (5).
□ A pair of Fuses (2) in the electric power inlet makes the system safe in an event of a
short circuit.
□ RFI filter board (20) prevents emission of RFI interferences from the device to its
environment.
□ Switching Power Supply unit (3) reduces the voltage in the device to 24 VDC.
□ The Main Board (14) controls the operation of the entire system.
□ CPU (15) on the Main Board (14), which is factory-burned, is the "brain" of the
system.
□ Sensors (16a & 16b) on the Main Board (14) measure the pressures in the system
continuously during the treatment.
□ Fan (17) cools the system inside the device.
□ The front panel (18) controls enable setting the treatment parameters as follows:
▫ Buttons to set the treatment mode (18a) - in some models are locked under
professional code
▫
▫
▫
▫
▫
Buttons to set the treatment time (18b)
Buttons to set the top pressure (18e)
Buttons to start and stop the treatment (18d)
LCD screen (18c) displays all the required information to the user.
USB connection on the Communication Board (19) enables setting treatment
modes and pressures via PC.
□ The Distributor (10) builds the treatment cycle according to the CPU (15) software.
Its functioning will be described further on.
□ The controlled air is transferred into a single (or a pair of) garment(s) via the Female
Connector (11) using two 12 outlets (only one of them is shown in the illustration).

2.3 Description of Operation
(See Figure 3 and Figure 4).
1. When turning On the Main Switch (1) at the back of the device, the LCD screen (18c)
displays the treatment time at the left side, and the higher pressure at the right side
(see Figure 1). At the right of the "Select" Mode buttons (18a), an orange LED turns
On displaying the active treatment mode.
2. Before starting the treatment, three parameters can be set by the user:
▫ The Treatment Mode required, using the Select
or
buttons (18a) (can be
locked for the end user).
▫ The Pressure required, using the Pressure
or
buttons (18e) (Top pressure
can be limited for the end user).
▫ The Treatment Time required, using the Treatment Time
or
buttons
(18b).
Note:
Changing the gradient profile of pressures is described thoroughly in the
Lympha Press Optimal Professional Setup Guide (Cat. No. L98102C6).
3. Upon starting the treatment by pressing Start
(18d), the SSR (4) turns On the
Pump (5); the Outlet Valve (7) turns the air flow towards the distributor (10) while
the Inlet Valve (8) remains deactivated to allow free air into the compressor (5).
4. The Step Motor (10a) turns the Rotor (10e) via a 2-wheel gear (Pinion-10b and
Gear-10c).
5. The rotor (10e) routes the compressed air to the specific outlet according to the plan
designed for the actual treatment.
6. All 12 air outlets are connected to the Female Connector (11), which splits each of
them to 2 outlets, for the right (11a) & left (11b) sides.
7. After the Rotor (10e) finishes the cycle, it turns to the Deflation position, allowing the
entire compressed air to deflate from the Garment(s) via the Exhaust Port (10h) at the
Stator (10f).
8. After each cycle during the treatment, the Home Position Sensor (10g) verifies that
the Rotor starts the next cycle from the correct position.
9. Each movement of the Rotor (10e) from one cell to the next is done only after the
software has verified that the previous cell had reached the required pressure. This
verification is done by calculation using the pressures measured by the two sensors:
The Dynamic Sensor (16a) and the Static Sensor (16b).
10. During the entire operation time, the Cooling Fan (17) verifies that the temperature
inside the device remains sufficiently low.
11. At the end of treatment (either manually or automatically when Treatment Time is
over) Inlet Valve (8) turns towards the distributor, enabling the compressor to suck
the entire air out of the garment. At the same time, the Outlet Valve (7) is released to
allow the air out of the compressor. This Active Deflation continues until the
software recognizes low vacuum in the system (via the sensors) - and then the device
stops.

2.5 Safety Precautions
2.5.1 In Case of Power Failure
In case of a power failure, The Safety Valve (normally open valve) opens, deflating
all the cells in the sleeves. If the patient wants to release the pressure from the
garments quicker, the hose bundle air connectors can be easily disconnected from the
device, deflating the pressure in the garment.
2.5.2 Pressure Sensors
Pressure Sensors on the board verify that the pressure in the system does not rise over
the maximum pressure allowed. If the pressure does rise over, the system will stop,
and display an Error message on the screen. These sensors also verify that the
pressure is not below the lowest pressure allowed. Too low pressure means that there
is an open air line somewhere in the system.
2.5.3 Positioning Sensor
Since the treatment cycle is built on the rotor that sends the pressure to the right
destination port at a time, getting out of position may cause a wrong treatment. To
avoid this problem, the Home Position Sensor on the Distributor verifies that the rotor
starts the cycle at the right position. If, due to mechanical problem, the rotor is out of
position - the system will stop, and display an Error message on the screen.
2.5.4 Watchdog
In case of any malfunction in the program Software, an electric safety device called
Watchdog identifies the problem and stops the treatment immediately, allowing the
air pressure to deflate from the garments, and displaying an Error message on the
screen.
2.5.5 Single Connection Option
The 12-prong Plug is shaped asymmetrically and features a positioning mark to
ensure correct connection to the device.

3 Troubleshooting
3.1 General
This section describes the procedures intended for use in troubleshooting a specific Shop
Replaceable Unit (SRU). Use the procedures when a problem or malfunction is detected
during operation or during the testing procedures.
Warning:
Only an authorized technician should open the device and use the
troubleshooting guide.
3.2 Troubleshooting Guide
The troubleshooting guide, described in Table 1, is used when a problem or malfunction
is detected during operation or during the test procedures.
The troubleshooting guide consists of the following columns:
□ Symptom: Describes problems and malfunctions that might be detected during
operation or during test procedures.
□ Problem Cause: Describes the most likely reasons for malfunction symptoms.
□ Corrective Actions: Details the maintenance procedures required to solve the
problem. The maintenance procedures often lead to the replacement of one or more of
the Lympha Press Optimal Shop Replaceable Units (SRUs).
3.3 Fault Isolation
When a malfunction symptom is detected, start with the first possible cause and perform
the first appropriate recommended action. If the symptom persists, perform the next
recommended action, and so on, until the problem is solved.
Notes:
1. Replace a defective SRU with one known to be operational for
replacement. Follow the disassembling procedure (see Chapter 4 Disassembling the Device).
2. Before opening the device, remove the electric cord from the power
supply.
Listed below are a few reminders of basic fault isolation:
1. Check associated equipment connections. Make sure that all connections are securely
connected to the correct connector.
2. Before continuing, check all accessories visually for any defects.
3. Remove the device cover and visually check the interior of the device. Inspect for
evidence of overheating or short-circuiting. Check hoses and wires for good physical
connections. Look for such indications as cut wires, charred components, and loose
