Amanda Megill - Grade 12 NORTH BRANFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2014 – 2015 blank Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members: North Branford Board of Education On behalf of North Branford Public Schools, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year. Prior to the commencement of the school year, I would like to extend my gratitude to the staff, students, parents and community members who continue to contribute to the success of our schools through hard-work, collaboration and patience. I would also like to invite all of our new community members to join our partnership in an effort to offer every student their own opportunity for success. With that being said, I would like to recognize the many accomplishments that were achieved this past school year. The North Branford Public School District successfully addressed many of the Connecticut State Department of Education’s mandated initiatives as well as some of the action steps set forth in the NBPS Strategic Plan. Once again there is much to be celebrated as we continue to be driven by our goals: student achievement through academic rigor; positive school climate and school facilities improvement. During the 2013-2014 school year, staff throughout the district worked tirelessly with nationally-renowned, state and local experts to more deeply integrate the Connecticut Core Standards into customized curricula specifically designed to advance the students of North Branford towards excellence. North Branford Public Schools also continued to participate in exciting programs, such as the Yale Center for British Arts Visual Literacy Consortium, to ensure that all of our students are challenged and supported. Our commitment to students’ success was recently exemplified by the 2013-2014 Advanced Placement Program at North Branford High School. This past year, the AP program achieved greater results than in any recent year with an increase in the overall number of AP tests completed, a greater percentage of students enrolled in courses and participating in the AP exams, as well as achieving college credit at the AP level. Additionally, the school climate surveys completed this past spring by staff, parents and students reflect another significant accomplishment. According to data from the surveys, all of our school communities exceeded their 2013-2014 school climate goals! Again, I want to thank staff, students, and parents for their support and their commitment to Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as we cultivate a safe, positive culture of respect and responsibility. The continued improvement to our school facilities this past school year and throughout the summer have contributed to our safe, positive environment and will continue to support the success of our students in years to come. Several major projects have recently been completed including a new roof for North Branford High School and a thorough district-wide security audit. There have also been numerous technology and physical enhancements completed and many smaller projects that support safer, healthier and more efficient buildings. The North Branford Board of Education wishes everyone a very successful 2014/2015 school year! (Top Row—Left to Right) (Bottom Row—Left to Right) Finally, with extraordinary enthusiasm I look forward to the 2014-2015 school year. North Branford Public Schools are excited to offer “full-time” band at Totoket Valley Elementary School, implement a new schedule at North Branford Intermediate School, and welcome a new principal at Jerome Harrison Elementary School and interim assistant principal at North Branford High School in the upcoming school year.
