Artist in studio could be sewing on her treadle sewing machine,
showing the process of wet felting a small flat piece, winding a
warp on a warping mill, or spinning her bunny’s fur. Make your

Learn the rhyme for the “niddy-noddy.” Try carding with hand
cards. Find out the “true” meaning of virgin wool. Spinning and
plying demonstrations. Activities include washing fleeces, dyeing,
carding and blending rolags. Spinning, plying yarn to be measured
and then wound into balls.

Sheila maintains a studio in Westbrook, but will be demonstrating
during the Tour Weekend at Maine Fiberarts Center/Gallery. Demonstration of the various steps involved in ikat weaving—a technique
of dyeing a pattern or design into the threads prior to weaving. Ikat
is a simple way of weaving complex designs quickly. Sheila will have
many examples of designs, skeins, and finished weavings, as well as
show the process of winding and tying.

Visit a working fiber farm and meet the sheep and goats. We have
fleeces, skeins of handpainted yarns from our sheep. Knitting
needles and homegrown lamb products available. We raise
Coopworth and Border Leicester sheep and crosses. We hand-dye
and spin our fiber as well as produce one-of-a-kind felted items.
Raw fleeces and rovings are available as well. We normally shear at
the end of February.
