I trust everyone has enjoyed a beautiful summer attending lots of shows and trials and otherwise grateful to share lives with our four legged friends, the Shih Tzu. our Our club is quite active and I am please to announce that Gina Church has once again volunteered to chair our Education committee. One of the projects from her previous term is the Brochure "Why Choose A Shih Tzu" and it can be seen and downloaded from our web site under the header Articles- CSTC Shih Tzu Brochure. It can be printed by members and makes an excellent handout for puppy buyers. It will also be used as an education tool at any breed booths our club has at shows and Specialties. Wendy Graves continues to serve as Rescue Chairperson. Any inquires about rescue can be addressed to her. Sarah Paquette is doing an awesome job on the Oriental and is always looking for great articles and advertising. Please support the Newsletter. We will be having a Breed Booster at the Purina National on March 12, 2011. Another feature will be a Breed Education Booth at the Breeders Village where over 50 different breeds will be featured including ours. There will also be a contest for Best Booth with the judging criteria being educational value, creative and effort of design and attendance of members manning booth. Over 35,000 spectators attended last year. Anyone interested in helping or participating can contact Rebecca McAuley or Sarah Paquette. The Purina National will feature over $40,000 in cash prizes including a $10,000 Best in Show, 3 Championship Dog Shows, Obedience and Rally as well as the CKC AGM on Sunday. Mark your calendar for this 'Don't Miss' weekend...March 11, 12 & 13, 2011. Merry Xmas and Best Wishes In The New Year to all our members. Cadence performs each and every time in her playful ―shih Tzu style‖ that is guaranteed to put a smile on the faces of those watching outside the ring. Cadence would like to congratulate her sire Rhythm on his official retirement. Rhythm has proven to be a very versatile dog who was happy to take on any challenge that I presented. He is and always will be ―My Boy‖. Thank you Rhythm for giving me your best each and every time….it is now time to let Cadence and Denim have their moment in the spotlight. Billy is steps away from finishing his American Championship only needing singles to finish. He is shown in the US by Luke and Diane Ehricht. As Chairperson of the CSTC Regional Specialty, I would like to thank those members who came out to support our Specialty. In particular, Carol & Carrie Randle who flew down from the far north to partake in this event. Sarah Paquette who made the 6 hour journey with her adorable puppy, was also there to represent the Sou Yen Kennel. Of course our die hard Southern exhibitors, Pat Waters, Bette Maxwell, Karen Schut, Jane Couch & Marg Brown. Karen Schut’s special, CH. Schutzu’s Closer To The Heart was the big winner, going BOB. Stephane St-Onge’s male, Symarun’s T’Look That Matters, went Best Puppy in specialty. Wendy, Richard & Jody Paquette’s male, Wenrick’s Encore N’Langrove went Winners Dog and Best of Winners Jane Couch’s Female, Bewitched Hearty UR My Destiny went winners Bitch Best In Sweepstakes was Stephane St-Onge’s Symarun’s T’Look That Matters. Our Regional was held in conjunction with the London Kennel Club in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Both Debbie Stark & Sandra Veitch are members of the London Kennel Club, so we were fortunate to have our own little section to socialize in. Both of these ladies have worked hard in the Central Branch, working on the 2009 Specialty and now the Regional. Although our numbers were low, the quality was certainly there. With numbers on the downslide in the entire sport, it is important for our breeders to rally together and support these specialties. A lot of work goes into putting on a specialty and I know those that attended truly appreciated the work this committee put into this event. Being as our 2011 National is in Alberta, it is impossible for many in the east to attend. So we toss out the challenge to our members in other parts of Ontario to host a Regional in 2011. Good luck to the hard working gals in the west. I hope your Specialty will be a booming success.
