Dalton’s re-opens in new location on Lincoln Ave.
by Katie Wiedel
Orange County Breeze —
Dining Arts & Entertainment
After opening its doors near Cypress
College back in 1996, Dalton's Cafe spent
nearly two decades growing into a beloved
part of the fabric of the city, charming hearts
and taste buds one delicious meal at a time.
In 2013, the property owners gave Dalton's
a notice to vacate the place they'd called
home; the owners intended to give the aging
shopping center a major facelift, and that
included new tenants. The space then
occupied by Dalton's would go to a Freddy's
Frozen Custard and Steakburger.
At the time, owner Marlene Raynor was
unsure whether she would call it quits and
give into retirement when the building's lease
came up in February 2014. In the end,
happily she found a new location just about
a mile away on Lincoln Ave. near Walker St.
that appealed to Raynor's desire to improve
the neighborhood around her.
Interior and exterior renovations of the
building began quietly — Raynor didn't want
anyone curiously wandering around the
construction site and getting hurt. They
opened their doors to welcome old friends
and new in June. Long-time customers will be
happy to know that Dalton's remains
dedicated to fresh-made meals and cheerful
service.
My own introductory breakfast consisted
of French toast (with a heavenly cinnamon
swirl), eggs, and sausage. I kicked myself for
not coming to Dalton's sooner; it's pretty
much everyone one could wish for in a
breakfast diner.
Be sure to stop by Dalton's Cafe's new
home at 5591 Lincoln Ave. in Cypress for a
delicious fresh-made meal, friendly service,
and a warm heart.

Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals to run July 19
The 19th running of the Wienerschnitzel
Wiener Nationals will be on Saturday, July 19,
with proceeds to benefit the Seal Beach
Animal Care Center.
The first Wienerschnitzel Wiener National
race is set for 6:30 p.m. with the live horseracing program to be held in conjunction with
the dachshund races. The Wiener Nationals
Championship race will be held at
approximately 9:15 p.m.
Admission is $3 for adults; Children 17 and
under are free. General parking is
free. Los Alamitos Race Course is
located at 4961 Katella Avenue in
Los Alamitos. For more info call,
714-820-2690.
Tickets can be purchased on
the day of the event on a first
come first seat basis. We suggest fans arrive
early on the day of the event. For safety
reasons, only dachshunds participating in the
Wiener Nationals are allowed to come in to
the racetrack. No other dogs will be allowed.
This fun event raises funds for the Seal
Beach Animal Care Center, a non-profit group
dedicated to finding homes for stray animals
in the Orange County area. Since 1996, the
Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals has helped
raise $220,000 for the Care Center. Last year's
event raised $20,000 through the sale of
tickets and T-shirts. For more information on
the Care Center please call 562-430-4993.
The Wiener Nationals features all the
excitement of a Quarter Horse race, with a
total of 80 dachshunds showing their stuff in
front of a packed house at Los Alamitos.
A total of 10 trial heats will be contested at
50 yards with the winning wieners advancing
to the championship race. The participants
were selected based on the creativity of their
entries.
Fans will be able to pick up a
free Wienerschnitzel Wiener
Nationals program by all main
track entrances. This special
program will highlight all the
participants and will feature the
schedule of events and additional information
on the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.
You can meet the stars of the night — the
mighty wiener dogs — and their
trainers/owners on the grandstand area.
Remember — ask the wiener's owner
before petting!
All concession stands will be open,
featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, Mexican
food, popcorn, sodas, and beer etc.

Country artist Peter Brandon attended Cypress College in 1993 and played for the
Charger Baseball team. In 1994 the Cypress Chargers won the State Championship, and Peter
earned a scholarship to the University of Nebraska to pitch for the Nebraska Huskers.
Peter majored in broadcast journalism and had access to sound studios and equipment. As
a hobby, he spent many late nights recording country songs. In 2000 he wrote a song titled
“Brand New Wings” for the memorial service of his best friend’s little sister. After the service,
many mourners asked for copies of his song. He says, “I really realized what a song can do to
people. I wrote that song in fifteen minutes and it changed the outlook on something so tragic
for so many people.”
Peter’s past Cypress Festival shows have been lively and fun. He has a unique persona that
enables him to connect with audience members. Peter says, “There is nothing like the thrill of
performing live and sharing my music with others. The fun we have on stage really shines
through to the audience, because it is sincere and genuine. We love what we do, and I think it
shows.”
Brandon credits his faith, as well as his family and friends for their love and support. “I am
truly having the time of my life,” Brandon says. “It’s been an incredible ride and I am thankful
for each day I have been able to live this dream. God has blessed me with a great family,
amazing friends, and I have been fortunate to have met some incredible people along this
journey. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I am one lucky guy!”
Altar Billies
With a unique blend of country, rockabilly and psychobilly, affectionately referred to as
“punktry,” the local Orange County group known as The Altar Billies will rock the main stage
during the 2014 Cypress Community Festival.
The group trio of Michael Strand (guitar, vocals), Johnny X (upright bass) and Chuck
Cummings (drums) has entertained crowds throughout Southern California for the past six
years and makes another return engagement to the Festival. The group also has performed at
the Orange County Fair, Orange Street Fair, Silverado Canyon Concert, the Coach House, The
Observatory and Stubrik’s Steakhouse in Fullerton.
CAG — Chris Anderson Group
The Chris Anderson Group, also known as CAG, has delighted audiences throughout
Southern California at venues such as Lucille’s BBQ, Stubrik’s in Fullerton, Taps in Brea and the
Cask and Cleaver in San Dimas with its Texas style blues, soul, rock and reggae tunes.
The CAG three-some of Chris Anderson, Mike Casper and Nicolas DeGaulejac have a
combined total of more than 60 years in the music industry. Anderson serves as the lead
singer and plays guitar. Casper plays base and provides backup vocals. DeGaulejac, new to
the trio, is a drummer with a Masters degree in music and studied at the Toulouse
Conservatory in France.
In 2012 CAG competed against bands from all over Southern California in the Anaheim
Ducks OC/LA Concert Series — and walked away with the Grand Prize.
