day Thailand, elephants are only used for show of their tremendous power, but in earlier
times they were a very important part of the King’s army and played a very important role

Lamphun – Chiang Mai’s Southern Neighbor
Situated 26 kms (16 miles) south of Chiang Mai, Lamphun is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Thailand.
Drive along Highway 106, a narrow shady road regarded as the most beautiful road in the north and lined with
massive 66-foot rubber trees. Now a quiet town on the Kwang River, Lamphun was founded in AD 660 and
was the capital of the Mon Kingdom or “Haripunchai”. The restored walls and moat were built in an earlier
century. A number of fine temples attest to the city’s ancient glory.

ago, the city was built by King Mengrai the Great shortly before he founded Chiang Mai more than 710 years

Thai Elephant Conservation Centre and Lampang City
Originally founded the seventh century, Lampang is situated 91 kms (59 miles) southeast of Chiang Mai.
Located in the valley of the Wang River, a tributary of the Ping River, this town is the second largest in
Northern Thailand.

9 : 45 a.m. Arrive at the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre. Established in 1969 to preserve Thai elephants
and to increase public awareness and knowledge of the gentle creatures, this is a non-profit organization, run
by the Department of Forestry. After the show, ride for one hour in a “Howdah” (elephant chairs that seat 2
people) through the nearby jungle or visit the elephant hospital where a veterinarian takes care of sick and
injured elephants.
Noon Visit Wat Phra Keaw Don Tao. Built in 1436, it is considered to be the most important temple in
Lampang. It supposedly once enshrined the famous Emerald Buddha, which is now at Wat Phra Kaew (the
Royal Palace) in Bangkok.

ChiangRai –Mae Sai Border –Golden Triangle
Chiang Rai is situated at the northern tip of Thailand which borders Myanmar (Burma) on the north and Laos
to the east. An early morning three hours’drive will take you through picturesque sceneries with a stop at the
Mae Kajan Hot Springs for fresh air. Continue on to Mae Sai, the northernmost trading post at the border
between Thailand and Myanmar. Here, we enjoy a delicious lunch of the local cuisine. Afterwards, we
continue on to the Golden Triangle to observe the magnificent panoramic view of the region which is a
geophysical boundary between Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. On our return journey, we visit the ancient city
