Best People
A Message from the President
In our business, we sometimes
take for granted the good things
our employees do on a day to day
basis mostly because of our busy
schedules and our expectations
that our employees will always
strive to do the right thing. But I
know this: Our G4S people arewithout question-the best in the
business. That’s why it’s so
important for our company to honor
the men and women who provide
outstanding service to our clients.
Every security officer who commits
his or her utmost attention to post details and professionalism is an
essential part of our success.
Each summer issue of G4S News honors our Officer of the Year.
But this year we are expanding our efforts to include officers who
represent the G4S Values as well.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading about our 2013 Officer of the Year,
Edward Spivie, who is profiled on page six. We are honored to have
him in our Officer Program.
New this year, are the 17 officers who were the finalist in their
Region who went above and beyond their normal work to exemplify
our G4S values of: Customer Focus, Expertise, Performance, Best
People, Integrity, Teamwork and Safety. I congratulate these officers
because they represent the foundation of our company.

G4S Officer Witnesses, Reports Theft
from Client Property
If I may boast for a moment just to share a thought directly to those
in uniform: I am often involved in the design and implementation of
our sales and marketing as well as sales opportunities and the
governance of some of our strategic accounts with the rest of my
leadership team. We often review and attempt to balance our
message and not appear boastful or too over the top in our
messaging, unlike some of the other providers. The reality is this:
we truly stand alone with the work, protection and service our team
puts forth every day with apparent ease and conviction. I believe
this is only possible because of who you are and what you believe
in and I consider it a privilege to be able to message to the world
your good works!
This issue also includes a showcase of the good works G4S officers
and employees are involved in around the country. I know many of
you work hard every day and then participate in community
outreach activities. And we want to support you as you work with
your local charities and organizations. For those of you who are
planning or participating in a community outreach project, please
join our new Match It! Campaign detailed on page 8, that will
support your efforts. Details are available at your local office.
To all our G4S Officers and employees who work tirelessly to
represent our clients and our company, we hope to see your stories
featured on these pages soon. As you know, our ability to provide
excellent service is directly tied to our exceptional employees.
I thank you for your outstanding service to our company and our
clients.

and G4S Project Manager Fred Hilian
Winston Salem, NC: G4S Officer Sheila McAllister is being recognized for her
efforts that identified two workers who were stealing property from a G4S client.
During two separate incidents, she witnessed employees stealing and
immediately contacted a supervisor. Both employees eventually confessed to
their actions and were dismissed. Congratulations to Officer McAllister for her
keen observations and dedication to duty as they exemplify the standard of
performance we strive for at G4S.
G4S CPO Stops Patient Attack on Nurse
Everett, MA: G4S Supervisor Isaac Ssenyondo is being called a hero after he
helped to diffuse a critical and tense situation at a hospital. Ssenyondo intervened
after a patient lunged at a nurse using a pen as a weapon. He subdued the

assailant had intended to continue the attack and the injuries would have been
significantly worse had Ssenyondo not intervened. The nurse required stitches
to his injury.
‘’

1 year
Military Experience:
Corporal, U.S. Army Reservist,

Palm Beach Gardens, FL: A G4S
Officer is being honored for the work
he did, after his shift was over, to capture a wanted felon who eluded police
for several hours. The suspect
crashed his car after midnight near the
Eastpointe Community, escaping on
foot and forcing law enforcement
agencies, K-9 units and air patrols to
search throughout the night. The suspect, who was considered extremely
dangerous, remained at large when
G4S Officer Michael Marino was leaving his shift the next morning. While
driving home, Marino stopped to see
why two motorists were out of their car
on the roadside. The two people told
Marino they saw a man in the bushes
who they suspected was the wanted

felon. The suspect then appeared
from the thick brush and pulled a knife
on the three men. One of the motorists, who is a retired NYPD officer,
simply drew his firearm and encouraged the suspect to drop the knife. Officer Marino handcuffed him until
police arrived.
G4S West Palm Beach General Manager Ed Rodriguez said, “It would have
been much easier for Officer Marino
to drive by the motorists since he was
headed home and tired after a long
night at work. But his actions displayed
great courage and commitment to protecting the residents of the Eastpointe
Community. We congratulate Officer
Michael Marino.”
Residential Security Team
Honored by Local Police Force
Palm Beach Gardens, FL: The G4S safety and security team members at a residential community are being
recognized by the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department for their quick work and professional response
when residents called to say a suspicious man was
seen running away from parked cars in their driveways.
(L to R) G4S Officers Samuel Clark and Marcella Wallace
Charlotte, NC: Three G4S officers are being credited
with saving the life of a student who collapsed at a
college campus. Officer Marcella Wallace was near the
emergency location, so she arrived quickly and
determined that the student had no pulse. She started
CPR and called for an AED. Officer Samuel Clark and
Assistant Director of Campus Security, Joseph Agati
arrived with the AED and the three officers continued
lifesaving measures. Within minutes, the student
started breathing again. The security team kept the
student safe and calm until medics arrived. The student
is recovering and doing well.
G4S officers: Lt. Robert Romero, SRT Jason Barquin,
SRT Aaron Waner and ALS Joseph Schunatz searched
for and detained two men in the area until police arrived. The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department
presented an award to G4S Director of Safety and Security at BallenIsles, John Sawyer, for the great relationship, teamwork and mutual cooperation between
the two departments.

G4S Team Supports ICE Operations During Bad Weather
G4S Detention Officers Walter Clark, Nicholas
Novotny, Andrew DeVault, and Sargent Tony Kirkbride
who are assigned to the United States Department of
Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs
Enforcement, Phoenix, Arizona, Field Office are being
honored for their efforts to assist ICE and safely
transport criminal detainees to Mexico. The G4S team
was put on alert because an aircraft transporting the
143 foreign national criminal detainees was grounded
because of bad weather. The aircraft was diverted to
nearby Mesa Airport but no alternate
transportation
plan had been anticipated and the team was called to
assist with a contingency plan.
Sgt. Kirkbride and his team immediately met with ICE
and formulated a plan for removing the criminal
detainees using ground transportation. The G4S team
ultimately assumed control and custody of the
detainees and safely and securely transported them
to the Deconcini Port of Entry at Nogales, Arizona
where the detainees were then repatriated to Mexico.
These Officers exemplify the devotion to duty and
country that so many of our employees exhibit and
every day. They are a credit to G4S.

2013 Officer of the Year
G4S Officer of the Year Saves Another G4S Officer after Phone Call
Edward Spivie was on his way to a well-deserved vacation, but that time off never
happened in May 2012. As he was ready to leave, he answered a phone call from his G4S
office. The caller explained that G4S Sgt. Ronald Lacey had not reported to work at his
regular post that day. Instead of continuing with his vacation plans, Spivie decided to find
out what happened to Lacey. He knew something was wrong because Lacey had not
missed a day of work in years. So acting on his hunch, Spivie drove to Lacey’s home
where building management escorted him to the officer’s residence.
There, they found Lacey on the floor unable to communicate; he had suffered a brain
aneurysm. He was immediately taken to the hospital where doctors performed emergency
brain surgery. Doctors said if Spivie had not discovered Sgt. Lacey so quickly, he most
definitely would have died immediately from the catastrophic brain bleed. Unfortunately,
Lacey passed away months later because of health complications.
Remember that vacation that Spivie had planned? It never happened because he took his
support for his co-worker one step further: he stayed in Albany to cover the shifts left open

G4S Portland Shows Heart
with Food Drive
(L to R) Keith Miller, Jones
Lang LaSalle (JLL) and
G4S Site Supervisor
Paul Korslund
Boise, ID: G4S partnered with three other client facilities
for a canned food drive called, I CAN make a Difference.
The highly successful project collected more than three
tons of food for the Idaho Food Bank, breaking the
group’s own record. G4S employees donated more than
400 cans of food for the event. As part of the process,
each department created a canned food display. G4S
Site Supervisor Paul Korslund helped to create the ‘Give
from the Heart’ sculpture pictured above.
G4S Jupiter Employees
Raise $10,000 for
Cystic Fibrosis
G4S friends and family members presented the honorary
check to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation prior to the event
Jupiter, FL: G4S employees raised $10,000 for the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as part of the Great
Strides Walk held in April. The family-oriented
celebration near the beach included music, food and
festivities. G4S was the premier sponsor for the day
and everyone who joined the walk passed G4S
signs that were posted along the route featuring
photos of G4S officers.
G4S Joins Habitat ‘Blitz Build’ in New Jersey
Morris County, NJ: G4S officers and managers
volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to help build a
house in Budd Lake, New Jersey during a 2-day event
called a Blitz Build. The G4S team joined others in the
marathon building session that provided an affordable
house to a low-income family. The G4S team helped the
organization build the home from foundation to roofing—
all in 19 hours.

What is Match-it!
What is Match-it!
G4S Match-it! is a program developed to support G4S employees community service efforts and the
company’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitment. The Match-it! Program encourages
G4S employees to become involved in their local community by matching the money you
raise for a charity, up to $500. Match-it applications for fundraising efforts that have taken
place since January 13, 2013. (where the employee raised funds for an event that was not
directly sponsored by G4S) will be considered.
Who should apply?
Match-it! Program funds are open to all G4S employees in the Americas Region. In order to qualify,
projects should meet the following criteria:
The charity should benefit people living in the employee’s local community.
The sponsorship must have a real impact on those it intends to benefit.
Employees must be directly involved in the initial fundraising efforts.
How to apply
Once the employee’s initial fundraising has been completed, an application for matching funds can
be made. To apply, employees must complete the application form available at [email protected]. The
employee’s application must include:
Details of the good cause and how it will benefit the local community.
How the money will be used and what impact it will have on the people involved.
How the fundraising will be followed up.
How and why the employee is involved with the charity.
Proof of the employee’s initial donation, such as a copy of the sponsorship form, fundraising donation
dashboard screenshot or letter of thanks from the cause (must detail funds collected).
Payment and contact details for the chosen good cause or charity.

Q
A
with General Manager
Tom Harper,
who has been with
G4S for 24 years
What are some things that have helped your office succeed?
What is the best way to keep G4S clients happy
in Las Vegas?
Pick up the phone and call. I don’t use email to handle
problems or to communicate important things. And I always
remember that just because I haven’t heard from a client, it doesn’t
necessarily mean they’re happy and satisfied with our service. So,
I make it my business to talk to our customers on a regular basis.
Q
A
What makes a good G4S security officer in Las Vegas?
Our officers and supervisors here are outstanding, let me start
with that. We think part of our success comes from our superior
training. Initially, officers are trained in classrooms with instructors,
but over time, we will cross-train our officers, so they can work in a
variety of locations. It provides assurances to our clients that if they
need additional security officers or have an emergency, we will
always have a well-trained officer available for their specialized
business environment.
Q
A
Number of G4S Officers: 530+
Office Locations: Las Vegas and Reno
I always go on sales calls with my Manager of Business
Development, Bonnie Beauregard. That way our clients know
who will be personally standing behind their relationship with G4S.
I then work to deliver more than what was promised to our clients
as a way to develop trust. Internally, I have learned it’s best to stay
away from being involved in the little things. I like to delegate and
let people do their jobs, but hold them accountable. We all win
when people succeed.
Q
A
Expanding the Resiliency of
Nevada Business
Business Sectors Served: Residential Communities, Retail Centers, Commercial
Real Estate, Mining, Tourism, Public Transportation, Hospital and K-9 Services
G4S, the Nevada Difference: Las Vegas and Reno offer more than a great place to
vacation. It is a great place to live, work and grow a business. Our G4S Custom
Protection Division has a very strong presence in the Nevada
marketplace. With our seasoned management team, we
operate and support more than 22,000 weekly hours of
business across this great state.
G4S Mission for our Nevada Clients: Our Nevada
team is focused on providing quality service. Because
we focus on quality, we have been consistently
rewarded by customer loyalty and long term relationships.
In Nevada, everything we do is a matter of pride in customer
service; pride in ownership; pride in caring and respecting
our clients; and fellow team members.
CPO Sean Wilson is an integral part of the G4S Las
Vegas team. As a Custom Protection Officer®, his
training and education make him a leader in the
security field. CPO Sean Wilson holds a degree
in Criminal Justice from UNLV.
G4S CPO Sean Wilson
How do you showcase the G4S difference
to prospective clients?
I like to invite customers into our offices to meet the team, see
our G4S operations, watch some live instructor-led training,
see the backgrounds of some officers and then encourage them
to do the same with our competitors before making a decision to do
business with G4S.
“
Kent-Chauncey Lindsey
is a G4S USO in Las
Vegas. He joined the
team in Nevada after
working for G4S Hawaii
for several years. He
says, “I’m having a lot
of fun doing this work.
Great people to work
with. Aloha”
As a leader, part of my job is to inspire
the people around me to push them and,
in turn, G4S will achieve greater success.
”

G4S Bank Officer Follows, IDs Suspect for Police
Tampa, FL: Bank Protection Officer

quick actions that helped Tampa
Police arrest a bank robbery
suspect. When the suspect left the
bank, Dedow remained on the
phone with 9-1-1 operators and
followed the woman across a busy,
six-lane Tampa roadway. Dedow
was able to keep the suspect in sight
and guide police to her location. The
suspect was arrested thanks to
Officer Dedow’s professionalism.

customers safe after shots were fired
near a client building. G4S Bank
Protection Officers Sean Rogers and
Larry Parker heard gunshots and
quickly locked down the building so
that no bank associates or customers
would go out onto the sidewalk. Police
say the drivers of two cars were
involved in a moving gun battle
through the streets of downtown St.

Tucson, AZ: It was a trip that included a drive of more than 12 hours and
850 miles, but time and distance that didn’t matter to G4S General
Manager John Zurcher and CPO Captain Henry Jones. They were on a
special trip to a military hospital in San Antonio, Texas from their office in
Arizona and nothing would have kept the two from their mission to
recognize G4S CPO David C. Baldenegro. Baldenegro is hospitalized and
recovering from injuries he received in Afghanistan. The two men say they
were honored to make the trip to honor Baldenegro and present him with
a G4S Patriot Award.
(L to R) Valerie and David Baldenegro, G4S
GM John Zurcher and CPO Captain Henry Jones
CPO Baldenegro was called to active duty with the U.S.
Army Combat Engineers and deployed to Afghanistan
in 2012. During an enemy rocket attack on his position
at a forward operating base, Baldenegro was hit by
shrapnel in both his legs. The U.S. forces eventually
repelled the attack.
Baldenegro will be hospitalized for another year as he recovers from his injuries. Prior to his
U.S. Army duties, Baldenegro was part of a close protection team providing security to G4S
customers along the U.S./Mexico border near Tucson and was recognized regularly for his
outstanding performance.
Safety
G4S Joins Top Safety Program
Morris, IL: G4S has now been accredited as an OSHA Voluntary
Protection Program (VPP) participant at two client locations in the
Midwest bringing G4S Safety Programs there to the highest levels
available in the U.S.
The OSHA VPP program takes safety programs beyond basic
compliance emphasizing management accountability for worker safety
and health; continual identification and elimination of hazards; and
active involvement of employees in their own protection.

Safety & Health, G4S North America Frank Knapfel
Frank Knapfel, Regional Director Safety & Health, G4S North
America says, “This is a true commitment to safety with our clients.
It means G4S at these locations will place significant reliance on
cooperation and trust inherent in the partnership needed for effective
worker protection.”
As part of the VPP program, G4S Safety Managers and Directors are commitment to establishing and maintaining
OSHA compliance, reviews and evaluations, and accident investigations in a timely manner. The program also calls
for orientation and training all employees to support the VPP program.
“VPP sites must demonstrate a high degree of management support and employee involvement before being approved as a participant,” said Knapfel. “So at these two locations, it is OSHA’s official recognition of the outstanding
efforts by G4S safety managers to continually
achieve exemplary occupational safety and
health programs.”
At the two G4S locations, employee input and
feedback are encouraged, so safety and health
deficiencies are identified and corrected as they
arise and employees are involved in the
continuous improvement cycle of the safety and
health environment.

Linda on patrol in Downtown Milwaukee
(L to R) Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn;
G4S Public Service Ambassador Linda ReinceVitale and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett
Milwaukee, WI: G4S Public Service Ambassador Linda Reince-Vitale has
received an award from Chief of Police Edward A. Flynn and Mayor Tom
Barrett for her outstanding work keeping the downtown clean, safe and
friendly. Recently, PSA Reince-Vitale observed a wallet and some clothing
in the river and thought they may be clues in a missing person investigation.
Turns out, she was correct. The items were important to for police
investigators. Linda has proudly patrolled downtown Milwaukee for the past
5 years assisting with numerous public safety issues such as locating missing
children or assisting disabled motorists. She
is part of the proud G4S PSA team that
serves as an extra set of eyes and ears for
the Police and Fire Departments.

G4S provides security for the girl scouts on the tarmac as their valuable cargo is shipped via DHL.
(L to R) Girl Scout Jillian Johnson and G4S Site Supervisor Carlos Sansone take part in the program that ships
the cookies each year from John F. Kennedy Airport.

JFK Airport: G4S officers provided special security to Nassau County Girl Scouts who are sending a
‘taste of home’ to our troops overseas. Approximately 50,000 boxes of cookies were shipped to our
brave soldiers through the generosity of DHL Express. G4S officers provided security on the tarmac as
the girls watched their valuable cookies load onto the aircraft by DHL employees.
