Winter 2010 - The Belle Meade Highlands Neighborhood Association
Belle Meade Highlands Association Newsletter Winter 2010 Message from the President This will be my last report as President of Belle Meade Highlands Neighborhood Association. I cannot believe three years has passed since I took over. It has been a great experience and I would encourage you to consider serving in some capacity as a volunteer for our neighborhood association. I am proud to announce our Slate of Officers for 2010 President: Stephanie Rishel President Elect: Need to fill Treasurer: Michael Kohl Secretary: Need to fill You already know Stephanie as one of the organizers of all our wonderful Social Events. As you can see, there are still two key positions to fill — President Elect and Secretary. Please contact Stephanie Rishel at [email protected] if you have any interest in one of these positions. I would like to thank our Committee Chairs who return this year: Donna Littleton for Hospitality Rob Lowry for Beautification Betsy Dortch for the Website Suzanne Magee for Membership I would also like to welcome new Committee Chairs Social Chairs, Emiko Baldwin & Liz Daly. Patti Straus for our newsletter. Patti is new to the neighborhood and already has some great ideas for this newsletter. If you have any ideas or want to assist Patti, please contact her at [email protected]. Colin Daly, Committee Chair of Traffic Calming. Colin is already working on some traffic calming measures for the neighborhood and we will have more details in the next newsletter. I also wanted to thank some of our great Committee Chairs and Officers who, like me, are stepping down to let some new volunteers take over. Thank you to Karen Mullendore who has served as our Treasurer. Thank you also to Lowry Harrington who has been a Co-Chair of our fabulous Social Committee. Lastly, thank you so much to Rod Rishel who despite his busy schedule stepped up when no one else would and agreed to help me with the BMH Newsletter. You all made my job so much easier and I really appreciate your help. Thank you to everyone for your support and help. Marian Kohl page 2 www.bellemeadehighlands.org The Fall Was a Ball! Message from the Social Committee What a fun time we had in the Highlands this Fall! THE ADULT BAND PARTY in late August was yet another huge success, bringing over 70 neighbors together to enjoy the local sounds from The GrassStains. The catered Mexican dinner, clear weather, fantastic music and great company all made for a fun, and late, evening out. A special thank you goes to our resident members of the band, Rob Harrington and Tate McDaniel for the great entertainment, and a huge thanks to Rob & Lowry Harrington for hosting this event for a second time. It has been a popular favorite for two years and we thank you for coordinating. HALLOWEEN in the Highlands is always a fun time to get together. If you attended the Annual Block Party then you know what a great time the kids had. With two large inflatables, a popcorn machine that ran non-stop and a balloon artist, there was something for everyone. As usual, looking at all of the great costumes was entertaining itself. A few pictures from the day are included. Another thank you is due to Barry and Kelsey Jackson for hosting this event for the 2nd year in a row. What a wonderful yard and home! Other Halloween festivities included the “Boo Game” where “Boo” signs, Boo goody bags, and a ton of excitement passed from home to home (anonymously) around the neighborhood. What fun to see it spread! And then dozens of neighbors’ faces were seen (among the celebrity sightings, too!) on Nichol Lane for the annual Trick –or-Treating. Halloween is such a fantastic time to be a member of Belle Meade Highlands! www.bellemeadehighlands.org page 3 page 4 www.bellemeadehighlands.org Message from Beautification — Rob Harrington Inaugural BMH Neighborhood Cleanup Day A Success On Sunday, November 8th a group of BMH residents and families took part in our neighborhood's first organized cleanup. Since there are no common areas or official entrances to our neighborhood, volunteers focused on picking up trash in the ditches along Page Road, picking up trash and weeding along the BMH shoulder of Highway 100, weeding and sweeping up glass and trash at the Hwy 100/70 split and picking up trash along several of our neighborhood streets. Everyone agreed it was an effective way to put a little sweat equity into our neighborhood...just a couple of hours produced some tangible results. It was especially gratifying to see entire families involved and all the children turned out to be great little helpers. Thanks to all who participated. We will schedule another cleanup for Spring 2010. One area we will focus on is the ditches along Page as the leaves obscured much of the trash and made visibility difficult this Fall. If you have any ideas or input concerning which areas of the neighborhood future cleanups should focus on, please contact Rob Harrington at [email protected]. Call 862-8600 when you see aggressive driving in the neighborhood! Keep it on speed dial! www.bellemeadehighlands.org page 5 2009 Real Estate Sales in the Belle Meade Highlands* Street BR/Baths Yr Blt Gar Sq Ft LP/SF List Price SP/SF 107 West Tyne Dr 3/1 1950 2 117 Alton Road 3/2.5 1948 312 Page Road 3/2 117 Taggart Avenue 1,547 $207 $319,900 $200 $310,000 9/15/09 32 2 2,321 $164 $379,000 $163 $379,000 6/19/09 28 1940 0 1,824 $219 $399,000 $203 $370,000 6/22/09 57 4/2 1948 2 2,022 $215 $434,900 $211 $427,500 2/26/09 40 108 Clydelan Court 4/3 1957 2 3,382 $148 $499,000 $123 $415,000 7/31/09 115 107 Gilman Avenue 4/3 1952 2 3,010 $174 $524,900 $174 $524,900 8/13/09 97 207 Page Road 3/2.5 1941 2 2,823 $190 $535,000 $188 $530,000 6/22/09 40 118 Alton Road 4/2.5 1954 2 2,500 $216 $539,000 $202 $505,000 9/30/09 128 110 Heady Drive 4/3 1946 0 2,424 $278 $675,000 $262 $635,000 9/14/09 139 121 Gilman Avenue 4/3.5 2008 1 3,730 $201 $749,000 $181 $675,000 6/30/09 64 119 Alton Road 5/5.5 1965 2 4,571 $164 $749,000 $153 $699,000 4/1/09 92 127 Cheek Rd 5/5.5 2008 3 5,500 $221 $1,215,550 $195 $1,070,000 10/24/09 72 124 Taggart Avenue 4&3/3 2008 3 5,073 $242 $1,225,900 $182 $925,000 10/22/09 74 116 Clydelan Court 5/5.5 2008 3 6,742 $245 $1,649,000 $193 $1,300,000 5/28/09 Average 3.93 Median 4 Sales Price Closed DOM 56 1966 1.86 3,390 $208 $706,725 $185 $626,100 73 1953 $211 $537,000 $190 $527,450 68 2 2,917 * Does not include homes sold By Owner Information provided by the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS) page 6 www.bellemeadehighlands.org Membership Committee It is time for the annual membership drive for the Belle Meade Highlands neighborhood association.
