Page 3 “Mission Possible” Throughout the term, we have discussed questions such as: Where does plastic come from? How is plastic used? How does it impact the environment? What problems does it cause? What are solutions? Etc… At the end of the unit, students realized that it is possible to take action in our community and that if everyone did their share, it would be a “Mission Possible” to reduce pollution and help the environment. Josée Perrier FSL teacher Les Eco Projets: Bonjour je m’appelle Ethan. J’ai crée une auto recyclable pour mon projet. On devait faire un éco-objet pour le projet. Wow! The response from the students was overwhelming. They enthusiastically began planning and carrying out their events with enthusiasm and amazing organizational skills. The events the students planned included: A Roaring 20’s dance, A 80’s dance, a Xbox and Wii game night, a movie night, a Halloween games and dance night, and a Neon dance. Page 7 Learning Beyond the Classroom All of these e v e n t s were very successful, the attend a n c e rates were high, and all the members really enjoyed themselves. The students did an amazing job in preparing and carrying out the activities. They were able to practice many of the skills that is related to both the POP and EXPLO program such as; communication, responsibility, punctuality, working as a team, as well as many others. The students used so many life skills preparing for these events. The MJGM Board of Directors is extremely proud of the initiative and skills shown by these students. It is so nice to see the youth become involved in their community. Also, as a ‘thank you’ to Rockin’ out in the awesome 80s! Chloe, Connor, Josh, Hannah, Kiana, Andrew and Cara, the Youth Centre hosted a pizza & hot dog supper to show their appre- ciation for a job well done. Kyle Buffitt Program Completed: Primary Care Paramedicine (37 weeks) and Comprehensive Arts and Science (1 year) at College of the North Atlantic Your success is a great source of inspiration for our current students. There are so many career options available that it sometimes becomes confusing for them. It is nice that they can learn from you, former Mecatina students, about your experiences in the programs you have chosen. Your personal input means so much more Program Highlights: The Primary Care Paramedicine program is very fast paced. Certain courses in the program are done weeks faster than if done through other college programs, however, it is also a very hands on course. Students spend much of their time in a Lab where they work with dummy patients and equipment that you find in the real world. There is also a Vehicle extrication course where students get the chance to tear vehicles apart with more than just a description provided in a booklet or website. We are very proud that your journey began at Mecatina School and that our students are succeeding in so many different areas! Congratulations on your accomplishments. Also, I have already joined a volunteer program called Global Medic, which is a volunteer program that supplies medical aid, and clean GLOBAL MEDIC The Primary Care Paramedicine program is an exciting and intense program that can open up doors and provide you with countless job opportunities all over Canada. Even if it doesn’t interest you and you’re thinking of doing something else then I urge you to look into College of the North Atlantic.
