CAMP STORIES
MEET MARK, 9
My favorite part about camp is: playing all the games and eating lunch!
Attending for: 3 years
Camp is great because: if I didn’t go to camp I would be sitting around in my room all day
playing video games. I had a lot of fun playing with all of the kids and all of the counselors were
really awesome.
I’d like to give a camp shout-out to: Mr. Logan, because he was so energetic and played games
with us.
Mark’s mom says: “I have such peace of mind, knowing that Mark is not only having fun and
enjoying his summer, but that he’s also safe and under the care of great camp counselors.”

CAMP NAISH OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
AGES: 3-5 | $160 a week
Ages: 6-12 | $200 a week includes lunch and snack
In our Explorers Preschool Camp, children will participate in themed weeks with
special guests, family events, hands-on learning and some splash time. YMCA
Preschool Camp provides a fun and interactive environment for children 3-5 years
old. Campers will enhance their social skills, develop friendships and focus on

Explore the great outdoors while meeting new friends at Camp Naish, which gives day
campers an outdoor residential camp experience with the peace of mind of returning
home every night. Activities such as archery, BB guns, camp crafts, nature hikes,
camp songs and fun games allow kids to explore new skills and learn about nature.

challenge their minds and strengthen their bodies. Kids can explore a variety of interests
and have fun along the way.

Teens have a reason to step away from their screens and get out and have some faceto-face interaction at Teen Day Camp. They will learn life skills such as communication,
collaboration and social skills that will help them down the road in college and beyond.
Enriching and interactive activities teach the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty,
respect and responsibility. Teens have the ability to make activity choices in a fun, safe
environment while making lasting friendships.

Creativity
To help children who have experienced a loss develop healthy coping skills, the
YMCA of Greater Kansas City and Saint Luke’s Home Health and Hospice work
together to offer Express Yourself Camp. The camp is designed for kids who’ve
experienced a loss or change, such as a death of a loved one, a divorce in the
family, moving, the death of a pet, losing a home, a serious illness in the family or
changing schools.
Express Yourself Camp offers all-day activities, a safe environment for youth to
express emotions associated with loss, and the support of professionally trained
staff including grief counselors and volunteers. Small group activities will include
music therapy, a multi-media project, physical activities, arts and crafts, skits and a
closing ceremony. Campers will learn different ways to express their feelings of loss
and to remember a loved one or a life change in a celebratory way.

SOCCER
Players receive an introduction to soccer
basics through fundamental activities,
games and fun challenges. Skill-building
activities and competitions will develop
budding players throughout the week.
The clinic is offered for all skill levels.
ENGINEERING
Campers will build things through the
foundation of science and engineering
education. Innovation and creativity
are encouraged! Throughout the week
campers will get new challenges and
engineering feats to accomplish every day.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Learn the fundamentals of flag football
and work on proper footwork, agility,
running and passing. No experience is
necessary. This clinic is for beginners and
intermediate players.
DRAMA
Campers will live out loud in this
introduction to the basics of drama.
Activities will challenge campers to get
outside of their comfort zones to learn
the art of performing, from impromptu
acting to theatrical acting. At the end of
the week, they will show off their skills
with a performance.
BASKETBALL
Players learn proper dribbling, shooting
and passing. Participants will learn
how to play offense and defense while
participating in scrimmages and a Friday
tournament. This clinic is for all skill levels.
LEGO
Kids could design buildings, space ships
or even pyramids. Campers will explore
concepts in physics and engineering while
playing with their favorite creations. This
is a hands-on camp for LEGO novices to
enthusiasts.
ART
Self-expression and imagination are
important at any age. That’s why art
camp at the Y focuses on helping
children turn their ideas and dreams
into creative pieces of art. Campers will
develop a variety of skills and explore
different forms of art, with the goal of
making a beautiful masterpiece by the
end of the week.
CAMP STORIES
MEET BRYON, 12
My favorite part about camp is: so many different things. I love the counselors, they are so
much fun. They love to do all of my favorite things like playing sports, going on field trips, and
doing fun messy things like chocolate mudslide, shaving cream wars and swimming.
Attending for: 4 years
Camp is great because: when I started camp I didn’t know a lot of people, but after starting
camp I feel like I know everyone! Camp is also one of the only places where I can be myself.
I’d like to give a camp shout-out to: Mr. Willie. Every day when Mr. Willie came to camp he
always took time to talk to me and always played the games our group liked the best.
Bryon’s mom says: “He looks forward to camp every year, and frankly, so do I! It was
very exciting that he learned to swim last summer. It was a great accomplishment and his
confidence just grew.”
